was waiting for this to come out forever, but have now moved on to a 9700, thank the lord....

btw.. dont understand why they are outing this os as rogers no longer carries the 8900... 8500 and 9300 are the current curves...

They've finally outed this for us 3-year contract people (y'know.. the ones that basically got the phone for free) that keep asking for it.

That and BIS 3.2 coming out can totally take advantage of 5.0 better.

The funny thing is that it's the same version T-Mobile in the states released; with issues.. so I'm not even going to upgrade to this one, I'm going to skip it and go for a different 5.0 version - just not sure which one yet.

My mom had the 8900 and upgraded to the Torch last week and gave me her old 8900 to replace my pearl. I downloaded this OS Friday through DM for Mac and thought it was odd she hadn't upgraded from her 4.6 or something like that. I like the 'new' phone over my nearly 4 year old Pearl. But really wish I had the Torch instead.
But the above poster is correct why release this so long after its EOL. But I can't complain. Hopefully Driphter gets a 6.0 working on 8900 soon, hehe, if only for a new web browser.

I thought hell would freeze over before Rogers released an updated OS for this device. I just got a Torch last week and will hand the 8900 to my gf. Perfect time to wipe and install the new OS.

A couple of weeks ago i had a mini fit on twitter and posted to Rogers how lame they are because RIM is rolling out OS6 and Rogers has yet to send me OS5 for my 8900 (i may have used a stronger word than "lame").

Anyway, they said they'd look into it.. now i doubt they did, it's probably a coincidence.. but if others have complained, maybe they just picked one and sent it out.

Ironically, my work just ordered me a Torch this morning, so i no longer care.

I am shocked. Never thought I'd see the day that Rogers bumped up the OS on the 8900. Hilarious.

I've been waiting for this for WAAAAAY too long. I have been running leaked 5.0's for ages. Not that that is a huge problem, but its nice to have an official carrier OS (makes it a lot easier to argue with customer service when you're not running a 'leaked' OS).

And yes, I still use my beloved Javelin. The only thing it needs is 3G and I'd be happy with it for ages. I did replace the trackball, but thats quite simple and it works very well now. It has the 480x360 resolution, wifi, and gps. When I have all my pennies saved up, I'll probably upgrade to the Torch but the 8900 is a solid BB.

The first thing I noticed about this OS which I've never seen before is that all of my icons were where I had them before I installed the OS. I'm not sure if this is a Desktop Manager 6.0 feature (with more detailed backup features), but its really nice to not have to rearrange everything after installing the OS.

OMG THIS POST IS NEITHER ABOUT THE 9700 OR OS6, SO WHY ARE U EVEN ON THIS PAGE????

STOP ACTING LIKE UR THE ONLY ONE WHO'S WAITING.

YO I HOPE RIM DECIDE NOT TO RELEADE 6 FOR 9700, THEN WISH I COULD SEE UR FAT FACE CRY INTO YOUR KRISPIE KREME DONUTS

Even AT&T had this out by now! I'm kind of surprised they weren't the last ones. Seems like they generally are.

Hey everyone, if I download this OS 5 to replace OS 4.6 on my 8900, do I lose all my contacts, etc?

no sir, when you plug your phone into your comp... open up desktop manager... and it you dont have it downloaded, you can get that from blackberry.com... it will detect that there is an upgrade available and if you choose to update then it will automatically back everything up including 3rd party apps... one thing that it may revert to are apps such as bbm 5.0 and possibly an old fb module.... but u will not lose your contacts...
always a good idea to back up prior to this process... just incase ;)

I'm offering my advice as a T-mobile user with the Curve 8900 running os 5.0.0.822

Unless of course you don't mind NOT having ringtones to know when you have an incoming call or message of any kind, or if you don't mind not being able to lock your phone.

Stick with os 4.x for now, trust me. I'm about ready to downgrade, I just wish I could downgrade to a previous version of 5.

Upgraded my 8900 the day after the new torch came out.
Crap OS
No sound from anything, Youtube, ring tones, mp3, video, voice notes, etc.

BBM left several new open messages in my inbox that I cannot delete.
Get error on boot up net_rim_bb_phone_app(54)
Viigo doesn't work. upgrade/resinstalling fails when using App World.

Its been out for months....ahrrr

Now it's just 4 hours since i upgrade my 8900... and thank God nothing wrong happened to my BB. ;) I'll let you guys know after 24 hrs. ;) but as of now all are functioning properly. ;) except for the stand-by button which I don't usually use... ;) but I think it's integrated with keylock ;) but the mute button is functioning tested when I received incoming calls. ;)

It's more than 24 hours now since I've upgraded to .822 it's version before was 4.6.1.199 and I never get the chance to upgrade since i bought my BB 10 months ago. As of now I havent experience any error or glitches or bugs... i work with YM on BIS together with my bluetooth on while listening to music and wireless on while browsing using hotspot browser.
