Official OS 5.0.0.714 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 now available from T-Mobile
T-Mobile has officially released OS 5.0.0.714 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700. The software should be popping up via the wireless update on most devices (if you have an official OS installed already). If you don't have the option, you can grab the OS from T-Mobile for a desktop install (we created a mirror so you don't need to go through T-Mobile to get to the download). No word on whats new and exciting with this build, so be sure to drop a comment with your findings.

Hot damn T-Mo! Seems as if you're keeping up with the Jones's. I'm going IN...
huffman18 Jun 23, 2010 at 11:04 am
Downloaded it last night. BBM is now a core app. Never been a huge BBM'er, but now I have no choice, no way to remove it. Gained a little memory. Whole process went smoothly. Used MaxMem to clear out all the junk I don't use and now we're back in business. Good to see T-Mobile keeping up.
sandradee1031 Jun 23, 2010 at 11:17 am
what's maxmem?
huffman18 Jun 23, 2010 at 11:59 am
It's a great little app that deletes things like voice dialing, carrier themes, lot of clutter that you'll never use. It'll walk you through how to use it. Make sure to check it out if you wanna free up 5-10 MB
mckillio Jun 23, 2010 at 12:25 pm
Thank you for recommending that app, it cleared up almost 20mb for me and I even use crackmem. It did change the look of my FB app and not for the better but it was still worth it.
sandradee1031 Jun 27, 2010 at 1:13 pm
where can I find this app at?
D_March Jun 23, 2010 at 11:55 am
Go to appworld and download another version to replace what you have. When you do that the new version will then be an add on and you can delete it.
lccurtis1 Jun 23, 2010 at 2:28 pm
BBM is a very cool app and may payoff to have it in the long run.
sweetlittlehugs Jun 23, 2010 at 4:42 pm
Do a google search for ota download of bbm 5.0.66, download it. It will replace the version you have on your phone, it will be in the add on section. Completely deletable.
joju58 Jun 23, 2010 at 11:23 pm
if you want to remove bbm you have to download older version and it will be placed on add on or third party (not remember exactly) so then you be able to delete it completely from your bb...good luck
Jkozy Jun 23, 2010 at 11:04 am
Downloading it now!!!
huffman18 Jun 23, 2010 at 11:09 am
It is a very stable OS though, no memory leaks of any kind. Holding strong at 134 MB with 10 apps. Battery life is good seeing how I run some contstant apps (Beejive and SocialScope). Had to reset some settings on crunchsms and BerryWeather but I can live with that.

vedelorme Jun 23, 2010 at 11:36 am
it seems that there is now real drastic changes.. the only really change that i've seen so far is that .714 is using about 20mb more memory. also it looks like blackberry messenger is no longer an option to delete.
CustomGrain Jun 23, 2010 at 12:01 pm
Got OTA pushed to mine.
jennberton Jun 23, 2010 at 12:15 pm
If you do an OTA update, will it erase my phone. I've neva did an OTA update before.
Connor83 Jun 23, 2010 at 12:57 pm
I did mine that way and it work out wonderfully i still back it all up just in case tho
themenacexd Jun 23, 2010 at 12:12 pm
I'm happy that T-Mobile is updating the Bold 9700 but I have the Curve 8520... Are they ever going to have a 5.0 update for the 8520??? -____-
fbihawk Jun 23, 2010 at 6:34 pm
I believe the 8530 is the only 85xx model that can go 5.0 due to the amount of available memory.
firespiritlord#cb Jun 23, 2010 at 6:58 pm
I don't know if T-Mobile will release the update for 8520, but it can handle the 5.0 OS. There is a work around in the forums on here. I haven't had a problem yet. The work around has you using a update for the 8520 from another carrier.
themenacexd Jun 23, 2010 at 8:58 pm
They probably won't... :( right now their main focus is the 9700... They should've at least released it for the 8900 though...
callcom Jun 23, 2010 at 12:15 pm
.743 is actually running extremely well on my TMO 9700. Battery life is fantastic on this build (for me anyway). Using BlackBerry 6 Theme (FREE App on MobiHand), by BBThemes and my 9700 has found new life and running tip top!
Crackberrier09 Jun 23, 2010 at 12:58 pm
do you have a link to that BB 6 theme page? please.

nolhayes Jun 23, 2010 at 5:23 pm
I have .743 but I still want to try out this official OS from TMO even tho that one was running well. Its probably not a true "downgrade"
8220flippin Jun 23, 2010 at 12:19 pm
I was going to ask about the difference with .714 and .743 which I'm running now with no problems.
hbalagh Jun 23, 2010 at 12:50 pm
I'm upgrading right now... hoping to have no issues :)
Mystro Biggz Jun 23, 2010 at 12:57 pm
Tmo gave me this update OTA??? Wow. Took advantage, updating while at work...awesome. Hope it fixes the minor bugs of .586.
Lpr423 Jun 23, 2010 at 1:07 pm
No Updates Available when I checked for updates OTA
hbalagh Jun 23, 2010 at 1:23 pm
When I first checked it said there wasn't any but then maybe 20 mins later it popped up on my homescreen
Lpr423 Jun 23, 2010 at 1:08 pm
So will the original Blackberry Bold 9700 be able to operate OS 6 or not ??
Connor83 Jun 24, 2010 at 3:45 am
They say no due to it only having 256 and not the 512 ram needed. But I am still in hopes for it. Or they can just bring out the rumored updated version or the older 9700 and I'd be ok with that too.
Kershon Jun 23, 2010 at 1:13 pm
I just finished installing the new update. I gained 18mb memory. Seems to be working great. Only thing i noticed was my callendar entries were duplicated so I had to go in and delete each one of the copies.
neuralwolf Jun 23, 2010 at 1:15 pm
Last time i updated my phone, it froze half way and damaged my berry and had to get a replacement from t-mobile......:/
berryaddict47 Jun 23, 2010 at 1:21 pm
Just updated OTA and it took about 30-45 minutes to do the whole thing, download included. Very satisfied with how quickly it went.
makaveli28 Jun 23, 2010 at 1:46 pm
I upgraded this morning, and I noticed weather eye isn't working. I deleted and redownloaded from BB App world and still get a java.io.IOEexception error when trying to view the weather.
crisrobiou Jun 23, 2010 at 1:58 pm
are the lock functions back to where they belong? ie, can you use the top of the phone to lock the phone and/or put it on stanby? thanks in advance
makaveli28 Jun 23, 2010 at 2:05 pm
I press lock now and it turns the screen black you press the keypad and it says screen locked press lock button again to unlock. Also it doesn't ask for my password anymore unless you physically click the lock button on the home screen.
Locking it from the top of the phone only locks the keypad.
anothernick Jun 23, 2010 at 5:11 pm
Lock button on top left only puts it on stand-by. Mute key on top right only mutes calls, music, etc. You have to manually do the lock to lock the phone. I have it automatically lock every hr if I don't touch the phone.
nolhayes Jun 23, 2010 at 5:26 pm
I hate that I would of loved if they put it back to the way it was before.
xbigreemo#cb Jun 23, 2010 at 7:44 pm
I'm using version .680 and the top lock key doesn't work, but hitting the letter 'K' does lock it on this version, which I do know did not work on .586.
nolhayes Jun 25, 2010 at 3:32 am
Where to press k @? From the homescreen?
Crackberrier09 Jun 23, 2010 at 2:14 pm
One thing for sure that’s still most annoying to me is the Shift - Del feature that will delete ALL of your typed text when ur trying to type something…
WHY?!! Why keep that stupid feature?
mckillio Jun 23, 2010 at 2:22 pm
I didn't know that existed, awesome.
ballhawk3 Jun 23, 2010 at 8:32 pm
I thought I was the only one!
They should at least put an "undo" option to balance this out!
Connor83 Jun 24, 2010 at 3:48 am
They need to make it something like a hold del to delete all. Cuz I run into this all the time. It sucks.

Firmware upgrades don't like me. Be it the phone, my router, MP3 player, etc.. My track record is poor. 'Update firmware' is code for 'brick your device'
Vurhan Jun 24, 2010 at 1:53 am
It turned out to be faulty cables.
Joe2 Jun 23, 2010 at 2:53 pm
top bar on bbm where it has your name and status now stays in place when you scroll down.
04carmines Jun 23, 2010 at 4:01 pm
Bug where it won't advance to the next song is still there. Anybody know how to fix this?
jesse2903 Jun 23, 2010 at 4:08 pm
just downloaded the update to my phone and it seems to be working fine.
anothernick Jun 23, 2010 at 5:06 pm
Just updated it from a .656 the only thing that I would miss is the it shows top 5-6 recent sms you have had on screen. I don't know why TMO doesn't like this feature. Restart seems to be a little quicker.

pagozahd Jun 23, 2010 at 7:41 pm
im using .743 and it works really good... my battery life is really good. and so far it hasent give me any problem with drop calls or anything.. for now ima stick with .743 unless tmobile os works better... anybody has change from 743 to .714?
rjnrobin1217 Jun 23, 2010 at 9:09 pm
Got my notification and took advantage of my employers unholy quick connection. Took 15 minutes start to finish. .714 seems a bit quicker for me, trackpad seems more responsive & I went from 123.9mb memory to 128.6 so a decent jump. I'm happy with it..that's 2 in what, 8 weeks. 'Bout time T-Mo
richm564 Jun 23, 2010 at 10:11 pm
Hey, i have many third party apps and themes that i don't want to lost like i did last time when upgrading to .586.... Is there any program or anyway to make a FULL backup that will take my third party apps and restore my phone how it was before?
Thanks.
lisamcates Jun 23, 2010 at 11:03 pm
I had to downgrade after the last official upgrade because my browser was significantly slower, facebook kept freezing, and my trackpad was no longer smooth. This upgrade is MUCH better. Everything seems to be fixed from the last upgrade. The only thing I miss from .330 (Yes, I know that's an oldie. I got burnt by a leaked version and only use official upgrades.) is that this new version goes black when you lock the keys instead of just going to the lock screen. I am infamous for "purse dialing", so I like to double check to make sure that my phone is locked before I put it in my purse and now I have to push an extra button to make sure, not just check the screen. (I know, sounds kind of lazy, huh?) Otherwise, I'm very pleased! Way to go, T-mobile!

Anyone know the official change log.
My local Sales Engineer from T-Mobile alluded to this update fixing the dropped call issue that happened from the phone constantly going from 3G to EDGE and vice versa.
When the network switches back and forth the calls are supposed to transfer over without dropping but that wasn't the case.
captainbdsc Jun 24, 2010 at 3:46 am
Fixed my visual voicemail time stamp problem. YAY! :)
LCW Jun 24, 2010 at 6:04 am
.714 working well for me... Better than .586 with which I had major 3G problems... With .714 finally got 3G back on track again... With 586 I'd have full 3G bars, but data wasn't going through, had to use EDGE... With 714 3G data working great
LCW Jun 24, 2010 at 6:07 am
And .743 was a disaster on my TMo 9700...
shadowswittness Jun 24, 2010 at 8:39 am
Use BBsak to do a full back up of all ur apps.
Snow81 Jun 24, 2010 at 9:59 am
Took about 20 minutes total to install the update. Haven't toyed around with it too much yet but everything seems to be working just fine. Even fixed my "uncaught exception" error issue in the browser. Good work T-Mobile!
brandito96 Jun 24, 2010 at 1:36 pm
I currently have .714 software , is that the latest one?
muppetmandan Jun 24, 2010 at 8:03 pm
Bricked My BB, had to go old skool to revive it !
DieselCityMag Jun 24, 2010 at 8:13 pm
Uncaught exception errors. Lag on startup, slow performance. Not very happy with this. I had 656 before and upgraded because it was an official T-Mobile update. T-mobile never updates, and this is one they should have stayed away from. I can't believe the problems I'm having. I've had to do at least a dozen battery pulls. I've tried reinstalling most of my apps. Nothing seems to be working. Add that on top of my calendar and contacts being screwed up by Google Sync, and I'm ready to switch to the Jitterbug phone. Crap!
muppetmandan Jun 24, 2010 at 9:19 pm
LOL Jitterbug
chilledfresh Jun 24, 2010 at 10:41 pm
After I updated to .714 my phone became extremely unresponsive. Sometimes it takes 10-15 seconds to come out of screen lock, and my call quality has noticeably degraded. Hopefully it’s just a temporary performance problem. :(
scarce10 Jun 29, 2010 at 12:59 am
This unresponsiveness is happening to me as well. Just as you describe. I also find it absolutely annoying that it needs to be re-established with the Enterprise Server. My IT department will love me tomorrow!
gizmojoc Jun 25, 2010 at 1:07 am
drop from five bars signal to one and no net conection, im hating so much im writing from my wives iphone aaaaahhhhh
scarce10 Jun 29, 2010 at 1:06 am
In addition to the slow response upon waking from sleep upon upgrading to .714, I too seem to have a loss in signal to the point where I have no service in my apartment in NYC. I'm downgrading to .6xx.
It's unbelievable that this version wasn't tested further before release. Why did I even bother to upgrade?!
nolhayes Jun 25, 2010 at 3:27 am
I love this OS. It fixed the long-standing issue I've had which is playing music and then the music cutting off when a bbm or something is received. Also the battery life is great. Restart time seems the same as .743 but 3G video streaming seems better. Also bbm being core only seems right if you ask me.
mike22 Jun 25, 2010 at 8:31 am
download on desktop manager, then BBM can
be removed if u dont use.
Solid os everything works
wifi,3g,uma,battery life !
shimataro Jun 26, 2010 at 2:04 pm
I tried to upgrade from 656 to 714 on my desktop. AppLoader says core apps on my 9700 are newer than what's contained in 714. Anyone experience this?
Hotchanna Jun 26, 2010 at 3:17 pm
it's draining my battery. Downgrading to .686
nanddm98 Jun 27, 2010 at 10:22 am
No real appreciable difference
qb175 Jul 3, 2010 at 9:23 pm
Too many UNCAUGHT EXCEPTIONS!!! Start up is slow. Dropped calls. VVM wont work. I HATE IT.
jonygitar Jul 16, 2010 at 7:50 am
The standy is a fix as far as i'm concerned. That was getting pushed in my pocket and taking me offline all the time.
The upgrade has ruined the camera, making it take longer to shoot, takes fuzzy pictures with smaller files.
The upgrade makes me lose 3g to edge, at my home where previously has great 3g. On the road.
The upgrade has made the bluetooth harder to lock in with my garmin gps.
The upgrade seems to make UMA harder to switch to and hold.
Anyone gone back down to 568?
MILLYBLICK Jul 19, 2010 at 10:35 pm
I didn't know this existed but i do remember my phone updated and it needed like a lot of battery energy. I check my phone and its OS 5.0.0.714
