Does this still have the problem where music player stops completely when there are incoming emails/calls/sms/bbm?

Other than this problem, .656 is perfect

Posted by XWolf Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

I have .656 - the official release, not the leak...

Not had that issue with the music player and messages. Try Downgrading then Upgrading again.

Or maybe it's your carrier's settings on the handset? I installed the Turk one on my Vodafone device...

Posted by XWolf Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

If it has been pulled I am definately not risking it this time..

Should only be a matter of a few days methinks until it's back.

Unless of course it was released early by accident...

Should be interesting to see what reports we get from the daredevils that do try it.

I just followed the link to the Hutchinson listing on the BB website.
I can .680 there! It's the 3rd one down.

Posted by XWolf Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

... this mean it is confirmed as safe? What have you found with it so far?

Posted by CrackBerryV79 Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

...just not at the top. It's still there - an official release.

I never had a problem with .656 Solid IMO. Cant wait to see what you intrepid explorers of the OS world come back with..

Posted by n.s Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

What about the issue that phone locks while playing video after the timeout period set for auto phone lock.

Posted by syb0rg Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

I've never had that problem.... and i've watched Wall-E and GI Joe Resolute on my BB w/ no problems.

with that being said D/Ling now.

Basic question as I don't want to add a load of personal info for an update to a carrier I am not with.

Hi, thanks but that site is not what I need. As previously mentioned I do not want to fill all that in.

I want the .zip file previously posted when it was first announced.

Posted by estaril Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

Why don't you enter something else rather than your own details like:

name: qwerty
Surname: asdfg
Address: 123 abcd street
... goes on...

by the way the site is owned by blackberry :) even if you enter your details to your carrier's download section it will be kept by blackberry.

Thanks.

Was thinking they email the DL link for some reason.

I wish someone who already downloaded the .680 leak to post a link for it. I have the .656 release and so far solid EXCEPT for 2 issues:

- some random restarts (still can't figure out how to reproduce them)
- Shazam does not start up.

Other than that, rock-solid. I wish I could say 100% solid, but in my case - not. I have a Bold 9700 (duh) on T-Mo.

Posted by rroyy Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

Shazam Works without any problem on my T-Mo 9700 with 5.0.0.680. Try re-installin' it.

Posted by berryfreak310 Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

Wish I didn't lose all my tagged songs every time I upgrade an OS....Have to try to remember to either write them down, or take a screenshot before upgrading. Not fun.

Posted by rroyy Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

Register Shazam Online and you'll see tagged songs onthe my tags list online.

Posted by berryfreak310 Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

OK..I just registered, and tagged a song, but it's not showing up online. T-Mobile wasn't in the list of carriers, only AT&T & Verizon. When you select "other" for carrier this message appears below:

"The full range of Shazam services are not available at present. If you register, we'll let you know when we launch the service in your area. In the meantime, to keep up to date with the movers and shakers in the music industry with our exclusive Newsletter - signup today!"

So I'm assuming that I won't be able to view my tags online, even though I've paid for the full app and registered online. Sucks :(

This is one of my biggest annoyances with OS updates. Hope Shazam can either retain tag data when you create a backup, or that they can get my tags to post online using my T-Mobile 9700.

Just wondering if the shrinkage is generic.

656 kinda gummed up my GPS so we will see...

it keep saying my phone don't need an update

Posted by es_bih Tuesday, May 25, 2010 730 days ago

Works better for me because it maps out k for password lock, and the Tmo .586 didn't have that function associated with a key.

I need help, I currently have Ver 5.0.0.405 on my 9700, Yet when I go to options-advanced-wireless update, it doesn't update me. It sends in a request to update then stays at ver .405.

Can someone help me here possibly?

Thanks

Posted by XWolf Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

Find a PC or Mac and use USB to update, the wireless one rarely works (never has for me).

.405 - Ouch.

Btw I had to use BBSAK b\c desktop manager told me no upgrade was available .... yeah BBSAK > DM lol loaded it up no problem now just restoring my info and my theme and ill let ya know how it goes sometime tomorrow !

Posted by XWolf Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

What is it and where ya get it?

Posted by Newman05 Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

Search on CB or google it I think the url is www.rimgeeks.com

Wipe the device with it then click load os after you install the new os and delete the vendor file loaded up for me and no probs !

Posted by heartUrE36 Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

I am definitely going to upgrade to this, I am on the turk official .656 and I'm getting the worst battery life I've ever gotten from any other OS.

Posted by rushhour Wednesday, May 26, 2010 729 days ago

I agree, the battery life is terrible on the .656 and I haven't added new apps or done anything different either. Glad someone can confirm the battery life.

Posted by kdawg6924 Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

This build seems to take up more memory... had around 97mb free... not have 89mb...

Other than that, so far it is stable...

Posted by XWolf Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

Am out and about so can't test this; I have a theory...
A lot of us cannot update to this. Maybe RIM have started making it so that the vendor.xml is needed now - hence it shows up in desktop manager without the update option.
What would happen (someone test this?) If we took a vendor.xml from our own carrier last official update and put it with this release - that fool it into working?

Posted by Illuminated_A Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

As far as I can see, no-one else is having a problem installing this. Quit crying like a baby cos u don't know how to do it and READ the tutorial on how to do it.

Posted by XWolf Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

I count 4 people that had/have issues. One used a program I don't recognise - so I have asked about it.
So, ya know - it is not the case that no-one has issues.

As for reading the guide - this is hardly the first time I have updated, just the first I have gotten stuck on. No need for you to be so rude! Maybe a helpful comment as to what I might have missed instead.

Final note - I was suggesting a solution, where was I crying like a baby? I suggest you learn some respect for others instead of acting like a rude child.

Posted by Adiq Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

Managed to install it. One thing I just realised what I would suspect a bug on this build is something to do with the left side convenience key. I set it to CaptureIt app, and when i previewed a pic in Twitter for BlackBerry, and pressed the left side button, it didn't capture the screen. Instead, it brought me to the page where the pic resides in the browser. I didn't have this problem in previous builds. Anyone care to confirm this? If yes, make sure the pic is in a preview mode in T4BB.

Posted by belfastdispatcher Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

If I remember correctly Hutchinson is the owner of 3 mobile UK and if that's the case I think their OS should be the best at keeping a 3G signal as they only have 3G and they use Orange's gprs network as back up.

Posted by Newman05 Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

Ok sounds like some people are having a problem with D.M. my advise is .. dont use it ! use BBSAK ( www.rimgeeks.com ) or just find it on CB the os is running on my 9700 like a charm and my left side key works just fine and I haven't found a problem yet

Posted by XWolf Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

One of the things I like about the CB community is that we do all (with the exception of one mindless flamer) pull together and help each other out.

UPDATE: BBSAK worked perfectly! Thank you to those who suggested it.

Posted by alai99 Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

Another easy way to load it without using the BBSAK is go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and run Loader.exe. I never use BBSAK to install any OS and always works. Only time I'll use BBSAK is if I wants to wipe a phone.

Posted by rushhour Wednesday, May 26, 2010 729 days ago

Agree. I use this technique as well and works very well.

Posted by aljimbo Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

I installed this build after having installed .656 last week. The .656 build worked well after some initial hiccups with my contacts list (though I think that may have been a function of Google Sync)...this one installed ok. Haven't played with it enough to see if there are any differences between .680 and .656, but I will say that my free memory jumped from about 96 MB to 103 MB. Then again, it had also jumped from about 65 MB to 103 MB when I went from the previous build to .656.

Posted by alestair Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

everything working the same as 656

Posted by mpaulson Wednesday, May 26, 2010 730 days ago

Went well. Had 118.6mb free memory before, 117.5 after.

Noticed it still has the problem of cutting off the last two digits of my # on outgoing phone calls.

@es bih: (maps out k for password lock, and the Tmo .586 didn't have that function associated with a key)...It didn't do this for me but that would be a nice feature.

Posted by squire366 Wednesday, May 26, 2010 729 days ago

I always install an OS via C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and run Loader.exe and I usually don't run into any issues.

.680 is solid so far. I did see a slight increase in memory from 101MB to about 104MB. I also noticed a slightly snappier UI. All apps are working like a charm. I did have to get a new Satellite fix for GPS but Telenav, Google Maps, Poynt are all working well.

I'll post more as I find out additional info.

Yes. Just follow the instructions posted (use loader.exe, not Desktop Manager).

Hi guys,

I'm currently on .586.
What in your opinion will be the changes from this version ?

Thanx.

Note that I currently have some issues reading some SMS (have to remove battery to be able to read them sometimes), and the battery doesn't last as long as with the first OS.
Do you think these problems will be solved with this OS ?

Another question : RIM never publish Changelog with their new OS ? I never can't find any... Kinda weird.

Posted by stinckyfoot Wednesday, May 26, 2010 729 days ago

does any one else have the issue where the date, carrier and signal type are bigger?

i.e. EDGE and signal bar are as follows: ED...(signal)

Sup with that? this has done this with the last fiew updates. My offical T-Mobile update does not do this

Posted by facegirl Wednesday, May 26, 2010 729 days ago

I have noticed that the home screen keys are bigger and my yahoo mail icon is finally back. I missed it so much. I was unable to upgrade using Desktop Manager, but BBSAK worked.......good luck to all you other guys installing it..:)

installed on my 9700 11am today. so far so good.only thing i have noticed is that, when i had to reboot my 9700, it took way longer than usual to reboot and yes the memory went up by 6MB.will update if any issues. i used desktop manager to install mine.

Posted by BBBM Wednesday, May 26, 2010 729 days ago

Installed without a glitch. (through Loader.exe, for some reason BBSak freezes on me ALL THE TIME). Anywho, I had to keep going back to .330 because my problem with all other leaks was that the media card pics were beyond blurry. Some people never had this problem, yet i did, even after buying a new SD card. The camera resolution diminished with leaked OS' and I had that problem with T-Mobile's Official Upgrade as well. With this one installed my browser even on EDGE runs faster, my media card pictures are clear as they were on .330 and my camera went back to taking non-blurry pictures. My battery is excellent and have gone since before the leak without charging it. I have encountered no problems. I love this OS and I'm sticking with it as my MAIN one. :)

How to delete that vendor.xml? And Where's the instruction located?

Posted by hokie123 Thursday, May 27, 2010 728 days ago

Sorry, I didn't realize this forum's thread did not include the instructions. After you've downloaded and installed the file on your computer:

  • Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously).
  • Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

After upgrading to .680 I noticed that when I press the lock button at the top of the phone, the screen goes black, and when I press it again the screen comes back but does not ask me for an unlock password anymore.

In previous versions, upon pressing the lock button at the top left I would automatically see the clock (same clock you see when the phone is charging) and as soon as I pressed any button it would ask me for the unlock password.

My password is set in the security settings... is anyone else noticing the same problem?

Posted by Mr_Christmas Thursday, May 27, 2010 728 days ago

I'm also having the same lock problem. i bought "App Lock" and when I push the lock but it should lock up. Now i have to manually push the lock button icon. Is there a fix for this?

Posted by tzhou1999 Thursday, May 27, 2010 728 days ago

Updated my phone to 680 for a day now and have found a bug already.
When a new message comes in, open Message folder, although with the new message highlighted, it still opens up the previously received message.
Going back to 656 tonight, it's a very solid build.

Posted by ljcn Friday, May 28, 2010 728 days ago

The same issue has surfaced at various times with various versions of OS5 on the Bold 9700 and on other devices as well. I have seen it on Bold 9000s, and it isn't a specific OS version issue. As ever (and if you read these threads you'll know this already) different users have different issues with the same build on the same device, even when wiping and reinstalling from scratch. It's a complete mystery why it happens, but it undoubtedly does happen. This is certainly not a general bug in OS 5.0.0.680, which overall seems to me to be about as good a build as any, albeit with no remarkable improvements over 5.0.0.586 or any subsequent releases.

Posted by LuvNay Friday, May 28, 2010 728 days ago

I've been running 680 for about 2 days now & haven't had any issues. I also installed via DM. To use DM u have to delete the vendor.xml file & u have to disable the internet connection on your comp prior to running DM software update.

i had to downgrade back to .656 . i kept getting error message after a day and half. my apps started to malfuction one by one. also kept gettting java error. tried everything possible. my BBM, i had to reinstall 3 times. had to downgrade to the original os that came with my Rogers 9700 and then upgraded back up to 656. i never had any issues .656 . i will stick with this for now. goood luck to everyone one else on .680

I had a bluetooth error when I'm using with my Ford bluetooth audio device. Even if I had added again, my blackberry tried to reconnect A/V remote control. I can make calls and receive calls via BT but my blackberry tried to connect AV Remote Control again and again. and it drains the battery and I cannot control (switch songs) remotely. Therefore I downgraded to .656
