Official OS 5.0.0.545 For The BlackBerry Bold 9700 Released By Vodafone UK
By
Bla1ze on 16 Mar 2010 02:28 pm
It's almost as if Research In Motion and Vodafone had this one scheduled huh? As we mentioned back when it leaked, OS 5.0.0.545 hit that "Gold" status we were expecting. The one time leaked OS gone official is now available for download from the Vodafone UK website. If you never made use of the leaked version maybe you'll wanna try the official on for size. As always, if Vodafone isn't your carrier make sure you delete the vendor.xml file. Shout out to cbaboy88 for finding it first.

teddyp6 Mar 16, 2010 at 2:46 pm
This will be on my "to-do list" when I get home from work.
falconeight Mar 16, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Not already or getting ready to or will download later. As I type this it is being downloaded onto my hardrive. I have nothing else to say other than that, which to most probably all means not a damn thing.
robarias Mar 16, 2010 at 2:48 pm
If I have .545 pre-official, do I want to get this one on my phone? Or can I stay put?
enotar Mar 16, 2010 at 2:52 pm
do I have to update one more time if I installed the leaked 545 or it is not necessary?
any changes with the Vodafone one?
klubn Mar 16, 2010 at 2:57 pm
Just stick with what you have - there's practically no difference between the leaked and the gold.
klubn Mar 16, 2010 at 2:53 pm
There seems to be no love for those of us who wants the EastAsian pack… not since .442 anyway!
Not impressed…
jstray Mar 16, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Bring the # of thumbnails option backkkkkk, I'm staying put with .405 until RIM brings it back, why would I want just 4 thumbnails to show? That looks hideous, 4 thumbnails are huge, I have it at 5 and they look way better
gerard187 Mar 16, 2010 at 4:35 pm
Yo .... Thumbnails of what?
pilot-leo Mar 16, 2010 at 3:12 pm

What is weird for me is the Mute key not working anymore;strange as the phone is design with this key.
how do you lock your phone now with what key; with 344 I was using A or Q (dont remember) but now it just lock the keyboard!
CatAlex Mar 16, 2010 at 3:25 pm
Nice!
I've been on one of the leaked versions and it's excellent!
h9lfc Mar 16, 2010 at 3:28 pm
I really appreciate the way that RIM has dumped the Storm 1 users after the release of Storm 2. This is the first and last time I will by a BB - the product is fine but the service and support sucks!!!!!!
acastro516 Mar 16, 2010 at 8:08 pm
The carriers r the ones who decides when an os will be released rim gives carriers the os for them to test n then they decide when to release the leaks we have we aren't even suppose to have
trtmazda3 Mar 16, 2010 at 3:33 pm
I've got .442 from Zain Jordan and I'm happy with it. Is this a worthwhile upgrade?
joey1910 Mar 16, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Same question except I have the 5.0.0.405 (just got my Bold about a week ago). Anyone with AT&T in the US have any problems downloading/installing this "official" version?
brindaarnold Mar 16, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Installed .545 Saturday evening from .405. You will NOT be sorry!

I just put the leaked version of .545 on my phone today. Oh well, I'll stick with this one unless someone says otherwise...
Crackleberry Fin Mar 16, 2010 at 7:45 pm
The file size is smaller than the leaked one. I was having issues with java errors on the leaked .545. I backed everything up and did a wipe, reinstalled this version and restored...no more error. I'm berry happy!
DarylMS Mar 16, 2010 at 5:10 pm
When does this update comes to Netherlands?
alpinechem Mar 16, 2010 at 5:38 pm
I just installed it on my Telus 9700, i am happy with it, but i cannot still play youtube video. I've noticed the Browser is really fast on WIFI.
WilliamRupp Mar 16, 2010 at 5:42 pm
i hate how you have to zoom on picture on the phone , otherwise they are pixelated
bosoxgurl Mar 16, 2010 at 6:15 pm
Last week I did download and install the unofficial leaked OS 5.0.0.545 onto my device. The only thing that irritated me is that my theme went crazy, but after installing this official version everything seems to be in order (now I just jinxed myself). Um, first impression is that everything loads much faster. I do like the new "lock/standby" button that RIM has introduced. I am not sure why they needed two to begin with, so I think this is a neat correction. The internet seems a lot faster as well.
Impressive new OS.
kraphts700 Mar 16, 2010 at 6:24 pm
Does anyone have issues with Quicklaunch on the new OS? Just want to find out before I install.
Crackleberry Fin Mar 16, 2010 at 7:46 pm
No issues for me!

Hello RIM folks,
You guys have done excellent job on this build but its quite disappointing to see that the auto-time-zone update doesnt work on this final build released by you. How could you miss that after such a marvelous job!!!! its so important for a person like me who is traveling every week 5 different countries with different time zones. in the older versions it used to work flawless but in this release i would term that to be a "BUG" not fixed.
Kindly fix this bug in your next release.
Thanks and well done job.
We will keep testing for you...lol thats how we call ourselves BB addicted.

The leaked version of 545 was OK and I just checked. If everyone says it works just as good, I'd recommend you download that instead of the official. (sounds strange even to me you know...)
jammis Mar 16, 2010 at 9:01 pm
Downloading the file now. just installed the os to my desktop. wish me luck! TMO 9700 from 5.0.0.445
kraphts700 Mar 16, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Just updated my 9700.....everything is running smooth as a gravy sandwich. Quicklaunch, all apps, browser seems to be quicker than John Wall and BES seems to be working fine although I did get an error about the address book updating. I'll have to check that out.
alpinechem Mar 16, 2010 at 10:19 pm
wow this new release is awesome.
I just configure my Browser and youtube video is working now.
i did try both WIFI and 3G..awesome.
Apocalypso Mar 16, 2010 at 11:14 pm
Since my carrier, Rogers, hasn't offered any new OS's to-date, I decided to download and install 5.0.0.545 this evening. Everything on my blackberry seems to be working fine. I noticed the following so far:
*my icons "seem" to be (though I'm not certain) slightly larger, sharper
*internet browsing is noticeably quicker, more responsive (both 3G and wifi)
I'm happy with it overall and will keep testing it for any other noticeable changes, good or bad. Thanks cbaboy88 for giving us all the heads up :)

Upon further testing, I've noticed the following:
*stand-by and lock features have merged; both functions are now accessible via the lock button
*while I can lock my phone using the default button, I can no longer do so with my password. I've tried resetting my password several times to no avail. Not too sure how to resolve this. Anybody else have this issue?
humdz421 Mar 17, 2010 at 1:08 am
my first BB and first download of anything. so....here is my problem. when i download the file to my desktop, i can't open it to delete the vendor file. there is nothing on my computer at C:\Program Files\Common Files - there is NO RIM folder.

Just installed the new os for 9700. Since doing so, completely lost my Keyboard Lock Icon. Can't find it anywhere and not in any of the obvious hidden files. Does anyone have any ideas how to bring it back? Thanks.
anar_baku Mar 22, 2010 at 12:27 pm
The icon only now appears when the security password is enabled. Read the official note here:

TonysBB Mar 17, 2010 at 10:17 am
Guys, how long is it until this will be available to download directly from my BB via the wireless update? I bought a sim free unbranded 9700 and I'm on .423 and it still says no updates available.
teddyp6 Mar 17, 2010 at 11:07 am
If Vodafone isn't your carrier, you wont be able to download it through the on-the-phone update option. You will have to download it manually.
cigardj Mar 17, 2010 at 11:13 am
Got my 9700 (TMO)in November 09, device came with .330 and I upgraded to .442 in early January and everything was pretty smooth except for call quality.
.545 so far is really quick and responsive. In additon, this is the fastest OS upgrade I had ever installed on any BB I have owned so far.
The only issue I had so far is minor, but correctable:
I backed up my device and after I finished installing OS and my device was restored, all of my previous MMS messages were missing. In addition, I could send MMS, but I could not receive them (had a friend test send an MMS). I checked my Browser Push setting and everything was enabled. Next I reset my device and I still could not receive MMS, therefore I restored my device from my back up folder and everything works just fine. Anybody else have this issue?
Good OS build!!!!
sariyo Mar 17, 2010 at 12:03 pm
just like the leak ones, quickpull seems to have problems with this version...any same experience?
clos167 Mar 17, 2010 at 12:35 pm
Does anybody knows if they fixed the issue with the sms text? on the other leaks i had issues with my texts being corrupt. if i was to hit the "t" letter to scroll all the way to the top of the convo, it would go blank.....thats if the convo was pretty long...
sforza Mar 17, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Downloaded official release, im on att...Custom contact alerts for SMS text messaging won't work
ibandak Mar 17, 2010 at 1:02 pm
hi guys,
I had 442 and everything was working fine. Today I upgraded to 545 and the WiFi stopped getting an IP address. It shows that I'm connected to the Wireless Router, but doesn't get an ip.. I checked my router and it doesn't show any error, besides nothing changed on that since I had 442.
Basic WiFi Diagnostics shows no ip under Wi-Fi and the Status as "IP address no longer valid"
All Data Services options in my blackberry9700 are set to ON.
3G seems to work fine when Wi-Fi is off.

I have been trying to upgrade my os for weeks. I delete the vendor file followed the steps correctly but app loader does not find the os. Can someone help me with this problem?
teddyp6 Mar 17, 2010 at 3:14 pm
Did you try to restart your computer after you had saved the new OS to your desktop? Sometimes the computer has to be restarted for the new OS to be displayed.
Mikel1290 Mar 18, 2010 at 12:22 am
I've tried everything. No luck :/
Aztek13 Mar 17, 2010 at 8:26 pm
I can't get this to load up. I deleted the vendor.xml and clicked on the loader to install. It went through the steps, asking me if I want to backup, etc, but then I'm told that there is no need for me to upgrade to v5.0.0.545 when I know I'm running the Rogers o/s v5.0.0.351. Any thoughts anyone?
TommyNg Mar 17, 2010 at 10:44 pm
Does anyone on AT&T network have any problem after this upgrade?
rorosz Mar 20, 2010 at 11:53 am
I just got a new 9700 yesterday and have tried loading this about 7 times with wipes everytime. Vendor.xml has been deleted, Did't load any apps so just OS sitting by itself (for testing) and after about 20 minutes or so after power on I get a 523 error. I'm starting to think they may be putting some kind of vendor/branding restriction on these releases?
Kinda makes me wonder if it was worth replacing my 9000, which aside from the lower on-board mem capacity was working flawlessly and offered a bigger screen size/keyboard. 40 pixel improvement is nothing so for now I can say that this issue has me highly unimpressed by this new "Bold"....
Has anyone encountered 523 issues with this and how were you able to solve it?
WestDev Mar 17, 2010 at 11:11 pm
Individual SMS messages/threads show in the messages Inbox, but I cannot combine the Icons.... very annoying. When I open the Messages> Menu> Options> General>, there is NO field for "combined" or "separate" as it appeared before... Is this option somewhere else in .545?
I completely wiped and resinstalled the OS and still no option. Otherwise a smooth and fast release, 10 minutes from DM backup to DM data restore. Btw I'm on 9700 with AT&T, updated from .450.
salim587 Mar 18, 2010 at 1:08 am
you can "HIDE" the SMS/MMS icon if you prefer in that way you wont have both. :)
salim587 Mar 18, 2010 at 12:49 am
i just installed it on my device and it seems to be much smaller than my previous OS, which means MORE memory. i also noticed the MUTE button doesnt put the phone in standby but rather the LOCK button which does both. cool update though.thanks guys1 GREAT JOB!!
dguillaume Mar 18, 2010 at 6:34 am
Apocalypso - I have the exact same issue, my device doesn't ask for a password to unlock, I'm considering a full wipe
BerryUK Mar 18, 2010 at 6:34 am
Just installed this build on my Orange UK Bold 9700. Very fast and stable. All applications working correctly and 3G browsing is blinding fast.
I recommend anyone who isn't on this build to upgrade now now now!

This is the first update that I found works with T-mobile USA who has the grandfathered My Faves plan. (It has been completely taken out like the stock version). All the other versions it would try to download my faves and continuously error out.
byoslim Mar 21, 2010 at 2:03 am
I just downloaded the 5.0.0.545 official released yesterday. it works fine and I must say it's a lot better than the 442 in terms of performance, battery life, responsiveness, memory leak, etc.
I've been reading many comments about this os on the net before finally decided to download it. The only thing downside is no eastasia language support and input. That's a big let down for me.
So I copy all the cod and axl from the OS 5.0.0.442 and copy the COD files to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9700M_v5.0.0.545_P5.1.0.140\Java and copy the alx file to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9700M_v5.0.0.545_P5.1.0.140
Choose "NO" when the windows ask replacing the older file with the new file.
You run apploader (not from dm), you'll be able to choose the east asian language support for the install.
Mine works very well and the good thing is I don't have to wait for another official leak which have eastasia support, which I don't know when
I hope it works for you as well.
cheers
kingronaldo Mar 21, 2010 at 3:06 pm
Ive downloaded and installed .545 OS and deleted the vendor file, but for some reason when i try to update software its not recognizing the new OS.. any ideas??
anar_baku Mar 22, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Just installed this, everything seems to be fine, except for two very, very annoying things:
1. The Mute key has lost its functionality. I didn't use Mute so I'm not going to miss the function, but what is really annoying and un-novel of RIM is we're now left with a button that doesn't have a use and you can't assign any shortcuts to that button!!! What were you thinking!
2. Now, my sore point - the Lock Button no longer password locks your phone even if you have password enabled! The little icon on the button clearly depicts a secure padlock on it and it's very misleading that it doesn't actually password lock your phone. I am always concerned about access to my private data if my phone is lost or stolen so I used to habitually lock the phone when I wasn't using with a simple push of a button.
I guess you can't complain much when the functionality is not there, but to have a useful function there and then take it away is just plain stupid to me!
RIM - you messed up big time on above 2 points, something you should definitely rectify at your next release.
timwlucas Mar 22, 2010 at 4:26 pm
I have lurked and read your comments through all the various 9700 upgrades. This is the first time I have upgraded. I used the instructions mentioned earlier and it was flawless and fast. While I wont claim I know all about blackberrys, I will share my findings. The first thing I noticed was boot time. Mine on .330 used to take about 4 minutes. I have some apps and themes, but 4 minutes is a long time. Now its about 90 seconds. Faster? Yes, especially the call history when your scrolling through the list, its blazingly fast with no hesitation. I like the new theme options layout, a complete change-first displaying the current theme with thumbnail, allows the easy changing of wallpaper from the theme options as well as other settings. A way better layout. I used the mobile backup for contacts. I already use nice office and tmobiles solution is good for emergencies, but no addresses? Come on, that is ridiculous. It seems nice office still works, i have recieved push messages from the app, but the internal info says my handset is not activated. Not sure whats going on there.
I live in a 3g area and the mobile network setting is set to 3g preferred. When I would get home, the phone would change to my wireless router, however after the upgrade, it pretty much stays in 3g with 4 bars even when the router is 10 feet from me. I can assume a stronger 3g signal means that something was improved. Some have mentioned browser speed. I can say that the browser launches faster, way faster. And not only the browser, all apps launch quicker. Pages load quicker, but maybe that is do to improved 3g. Some have mentioned problems with quickpull, but I have the free version and used it 2 times and no problems to report. Berryweather runs amazingly fast and no application problems with:
Berryweather
Berrybuzz
ebay
ups
facebook (way fast)
twitter
calendar pro
memory boost
beejive
opera
add to contact
add to calendar
word clock
berryjoose
vorino clock
smrtphotos
curerncy exchange rate
flixster
fandango
beamexplorer
poynt
Those are my major programs. I did have to re-enter the reg codes for the paid ones. Other people stating before that overall it is just way faster is in fact true. I canot comment on battery as I dont want to measure, I defer to the others who have. I have not noticed anything with call quality like some have mentioned, but I have not had many conversations since I ugraded at like 5am. I did notice the new adaption for the voice. I have not tried that yet but planned to. I had no issues before using the blueant q1 for handsfree dialing, just had to speak clearly. I am not sure what tmobile is waiting for other than maybe their mobile backup back end is the reason why they are not updating from .330, either way, I was not waiting for their asses any longer and took the plunge. Very glad I did. Its like a new virgin phone with nothing on it, except it has all my stuff on it. Those of you on the fence, use the prcedures and you should not have any problems. A big thanks to all you guys who test and report this stuff early and for sharing your information. I hope my non-scietific info makes some of you feel more comfortable. Strangley enough, I have had an itchy ass lately and the .545 cured it.
