Official OS 5.0.0.451 for the BlackBerry Storm 9500 from Vodafone Australia
Another day, another update. The Storm 9500 is the latest device to be graced with new software as Vodafone Australia has officially released OS 5.0.0.451. We saw another official 9500 release a few weeks back, but this one looks like a pretty decent jump from there. If you do install it, drop a comment and let us know your findings. As always, even though this is an official release, use caution when upgrading the OS on your device.

there should be some kind of forum that lists all the changes between os leaks...

Works great, my first upgrade from 4.7 to 5.0
Batterylife seems to be better, 5 Mb more memory, quicker after a reboot, quicker starting-up applications.
No problems yet.

Can anyone tell if the 451 browser is better or is it still pretty sketchy?

I've seen this question asked before but I've yet to see the answer. Is it possible to install a 9500 update on a verizon 9530 without turning it into a paper-weight?
RedBank Jan 28, 2010 at 6:47 am
straight up no...java file yes.
or use a lyricidal 9500/9530 hybrid installer. i just did after installing 419 straight up and am extremely happy!

RedBank Jan 28, 2010 at 6:48 am

I really would like to see this released by verizon. But i agree with RedBank, it all likelyness the OS will release with 9650. Ofcourse, no guarantees :}

does this update work for the storm 2 9550? where is our OS download?
Captain42 Jan 29, 2010 at 7:23 am
I succesfuly downloaded and installed the Software on my PC, but the BB desktop software doensn't show an available update - when I manually try to do so there's a warning of downgrading my software ...
My current version is the OS 5.0.0.425 from A1 - any suggestions?
By the way - OS 5.0.0.425 works pretty fine for me with our BES 5!

i had the same issue, deleted the vendor.xml and it worked........ the problem i got now is that when i select it to upgrade it says no update required????
am also currently on 425 ;)

Am having the same problem as above. Deleted the vendor file and it still won't update. Some help is needed.

If the BBDM is not detecting an upgrade or will not allow you to upgrade your OS, follow these instructions.
1. Go to your c:/programs files/common files/research in motion/app loader , and delete the vendor file.
2. Within the same window (c:/programs files/common files/research in motion/app loader) double click the .exe file labeled 'Loader"
3. Follow the steps.
This is just an alternate path that bypasses the BBDM but will still install your unofficial OS updates to your BB. Hope this helps.

Hi!
You do not need to launch loader.exe manually.
Simply
1. unplug your network connection
2. delete vendor.xml from c:\programs files\common files\research in motion\app loader
3. load BBDM
4. plug in your BB ;o)
Cheers

Hi WileECoyote,
I updated my device and it's runnung very smoothly now - it seems to me that there were fewer steps do do after the update i.e. configure the startscreen and so on ...
very nice,
Cheers,
