I know all the 8330 users are gonna be happy

Posted by chochopr Saturday, Jan 23, 2010 750 days ago

we been through this already with the same 8330, cause when it came out for I believe it was Sprint or Nextel it had around the same version but when ppl got it, the phone was the same old platform version as the other ones, and the only reason why I think the OS is a higher version for this BB is because it's a Walkie-Talkie type phone. I mean correct me if I'm wrong.

But I do remember reading something like this b4 a while back from crackberry and of course ppl was still whining but little did they know that the phone needed that upgrade but the same old platform because of the walkie-talkie app/button on the side.

Will this work on both the 8330 and 8330M or just the 8330?

Posted by W1nks Friday, Jan 22, 2010 751 days ago

I was wondering the same. I don't think it does though.

Posted by wcmarchese Friday, Jan 22, 2010 751 days ago

That's funny, I remember when I was waiting forever for the 4.5 for the 8330, now the 5.0 comes out and for that model before the TOUR???

Hilarious.

I thought MTS released the 5.0 for the tour a couple days back. I even downloaded it from blackberry. is there something more official than that? nice about this for the 8330. will it work for the 8330m?

Posted by devil24 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 751 days ago

8330 and 8330m are different beasts.

Is Boost Mobile a GSM or CDMA network? Will this download work with my Sprint 8330?

Posted by tae_254 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

Yes it will. Boost actually is IDEN not CDMA or GSM from my knowledge. Uses sim card but still runs off CDMA if you will.

Posted by joshua.worth Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

If you have the 8330 or the 8330m

Posted by K9LEE Monday, Jan 25, 2010 748 days ago

YES IT WILL WORK ON SPRINT, WITHOUT CHANING ANYTHING OR ALTERING THE OS

Posted by 04Taco Friday, Jan 22, 2010 751 days ago

Boost is a CDMA network. My guess is that all Boost Curves are of the 8330M variety. Sprint stopped selling 8330's around a year ago andthe 8330M came out. This was due to a patent infingement that forced RIM to use a different chipset. If your BB has a MEID instead of ESN, you have the new chipset, which all new CDMA BBs have.

Posted by CybermatriX Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

Literally a slap in the face for Sprint customers. I think Sprint is never gonna release it for us 8330/8330m owners. My reasoning behind this is, there's a new Curve out, they want customers to upgrade to that so they lock us into another 1-2 year contract. 'Cause if they released if for the 8330/8330m it would probably delay their post-paid customers from upgrading for sometime.

I have been so looking forward to this for quite some time.

Anyway, for some reason the desktop manager won't install this OS for me. It sees it and if I select it I get a "No software update is required for your device." message in AppLoader.

My CDMA Curve 8330 is currently running 4.5.0.169, which I installed previously using this same method.

Any ideas as to why this isn't working for me?

Did you delete the Vendor.xml file?

Posted by jmlowes Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

I did delete the vendor.xml file.

The update appears to be installing now. I ran the Loader app instead of going through Desktop Manager and it looks much happier.

Thanks.

and is your 8330 an M model or not?

Posted by jmlowes Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

Not an M model.

Posted by tae_254 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

Make sure there is no other OS installed on your computer. And use AppLoader insted of DM. Apploader is found where you found the vendor.xml

Posted by AllEyezOnD Saturday, Jan 23, 2010 749 days ago

ok so i have apploader open, and clicked on the add button, but were do i find the os at

Posted by jmlowes Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

Yippeeee! I got it installed and everything is working great. Now I need to reinstall some apps.

Posted by K9LEE Monday, Jan 25, 2010 748 days ago

ARE YOU RUNNING ON A SPRINT? IF NOT DELETE THE VENDOR.XML IN C:/PROGRAMS/COMMON/REASERCHINMOTION/LOADER

THEN RUN THE LOADER.EXE ICON IN SAME FILE

Posted by mdalgart Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

No Idea why, with a 5.0 OS already seen by Boost, but Verizon has an OS update to 4.5.0.175 posted yesterday.

Does this make sense to ANYONE???

Posted by natescurve Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

This will seem like a stupid question I'm sure, but what are the benefits to upgrading to the new OS 5.0.0.438?

Posted by tae_254 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

better features. Go to blackberry site for details

Posted by K9LEE Monday, Jan 25, 2010 748 days ago

MAINLY THREADED CHAT AND AS TIME GOES BY, VENDORS WONT WRITE FOR OLD OS. ALSO THERE ARE SOME MINOR CHANGES, LIKE GENERAL SETTINGS THAT ARE EASIER TO USE, AND ONLY ONE "INBOX" WHERE ALL YOUR EMAILS GO

Posted by agaldo81 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

Which file is that?

Posted by tae_254 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

which can be found after you install the software on your PC under computer/c:/program files/common files/research in motion/apploader.

Posted by lphil24 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

Posted by tae_254 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

I don't know enough about OS's - does anyone know if this OS would be compatible with an 8320, or is it strictly an 8330 OS??

Thanks!

Posted by tae_254 Friday, Jan 22, 2010 750 days ago

its only for the 8330
