I assume because this is a carrier release instead of a RIM release, if you are not with Vodafone DE you're best off not installing?

This is untrue. It is a RIM released OS, just one that has been approved to be good enough for consumer use by Vodafone DE. Usually it is less risky for consumers to load Official OS's, as they are tested for bugs while leaks are not.

Hello, are there any crucial differences between .1036 and .681? How about e.g. locking and mute top keys? Do they work in .1036 as in .681?
