Official BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS 5.0.0.442 Released By Zain Jordan
By
Bla1ze on 21 Jan 2010 07:04 pm
We haven't seen any leaks for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 as of late, so here is an official release instead from Zain Jordan. OS 5.0.0.442 can be downloaded from their BlackBerry download site. We don't as of yet, have a record of what's new or what's fixed but I'm sure the CrackBerry forums will soon fill up with that information. Remember, when updating to this OS to remove the vendor.xml file from the install folder if Zain is not your carrier.

Can someone let me know if this is doable with mackbook
MRCUR Jan 21, 2010 at 7:18 pm
Not sure what a "MackBook" is, but I don't think you can do much with this on a Mac seeing as it's an executable file.
Duvi Jan 21, 2010 at 7:24 pm
is a mac notebook. They dropped the note and added mac. It's apple's way to say notebook.
MRCUR Jan 21, 2010 at 9:26 pm
Yes, thanks for the explanation. I'm typing on a MacBook right now. I was referring to the "Mack" like the truck, not Apple's Mac.
Gunner4life Jan 21, 2010 at 7:29 pm
I don't know what all the fuss is about the " mackbook " he he... but I know this...I'm the Mack Daddy !
syb0rg Jan 22, 2010 at 8:23 am
I can talk to Blackberries, and i'm a PC.

I don't wanna jump the gun too soon but I just may.
cook0066 Jan 21, 2010 at 7:19 pm
Downloading now
cook0066 Jan 21, 2010 at 7:28 pm
I tried to install it but said the software on my Crackberry was newer. haha
asuprice Jan 21, 2010 at 8:12 pm
are you sure it didn't just say the current one you have is preferred?
sk8er_tor Jan 21, 2010 at 8:24 pm
That's because your computer was probably connected to the Internet when you tried to install the software. Disconnect your Internet connection and try again.
MRCUR Jan 21, 2010 at 7:19 pm
I'll load this up tonight maybe. I've been getting pretty bored of .423 from Rogers. Props to Zain Jordan (who I kept thinking was a person from RIM leaking the OS, haha).
Syn-tax Jan 21, 2010 at 8:26 pm
Please explain your comment ".423 from Rogers."
I thought .351 was the most recent official Rogers release??
MRCUR Jan 21, 2010 at 9:29 pm
Oops, sorry about that. I meant .351, I forgot which it was.
I'm running .442 now. Everything seems fine but there's an audible whine coming from my 9700 all the time now, whereas it only occurred sometimes with .351.
SanaTizer Jan 21, 2010 at 7:24 pm
It's been pretty quite on the releases since that first hurricane when the 9700 got released. 223 has been running great... but why not.
Sajan Parikh Jan 21, 2010 at 7:29 pm
!sarcasm>
Goddamit! We almost went a whole MONTH without a new OS!
storm83 Jan 21, 2010 at 7:37 pm
verizon......move your @sses
Pipberry Jan 21, 2010 at 7:52 pm
What's the difference? I have a 9700 From Rogers, with 5.0.0.351.
WazzuKirk Jan 21, 2010 at 8:27 pm
I just updated. I have to say that it is very zippy compared to the previous OS's. And the browser seems a little snappier. BTW, I updated the TMO 9700.
CatAlex Jan 21, 2010 at 8:29 pm
Coolio, I am waffling as to whether I want to try it yet. Will probably wait to see what the feedback is.
MattSpartans20 Jan 21, 2010 at 8:31 pm
was waiting for this, downloading now!!
ladiablita20 Jan 21, 2010 at 8:49 pm
HOW CAN I DELETE THE VENDOR NAME PLIS HELPPP
WazzuKirk Jan 21, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Go to Program Files>Common FilesApp Loader
ladiablita20 Jan 21, 2010 at 9:29 pm
thanks.. now its saying theres no updates available
MRCUR Jan 21, 2010 at 9:32 pm
You must be disconnected from the Internet as well.
ladiablita20 Jan 21, 2010 at 9:37 pm
i did disconnect from the internet and still saying the same thing
docta v Jan 21, 2010 at 11:19 pm
Its because desktop manager saves a copy of the vendor.xml file in a hidden folder on ur comp(part of teh auto update feature).. so even if u delete it it still finds it. there are 2 solutions. 1) search for the hidden file on ur comp and delete it or 2) uninstall and then reinstall desktop manager and choose not to do automatic updates. Worked for me and there shud be some forums on that issue too
chochopr Jan 22, 2010 at 12:37 am
You was just there; Go to Program Files> Common Files> Research In Motion> App Loader and THEN DOUBLE CLICK on the App Loader (to open it) but remember have your regular BB destop Manager Close and use the App "LOADER" instead to install your update on your BB. WORK GREAT FOR ME, LIKE A CHARMED. I've been doing it like that ever since they came out with the new 5.0 BB desktop manager. If you should any question(s) please feel free to either ping or add me. My pin # 21645CF7. Good Luck.
MRCUR Jan 21, 2010 at 9:31 pm
NO NEED TO YELL, IT'S REALLY OBNOXIOUS AND MAKES IT SEEM LIKE YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO USE A KEYBOARD!!!
Anywho, it's under Program Files (x86 *if running an x64 OS*)\Commons Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader. Just delete the file.
ryuotsuka Jan 21, 2010 at 9:03 pm
when i get to available updates, it gives me the option of .442 or .330 i unclick .330 and check the .442 box, BUT it says searching for available software device then it says no update is required for your device. any way i can install .442?

MRCUR Jan 21, 2010 at 9:33 pm
Just installed this and it's VERY fast. Everything seems to be moving quite a bit quicker, even the browser. I'm impressed.

ryuotsuka Jan 21, 2010 at 9:58 pm
to turn internet off. it just says core 5.0.0 core applications 5.0.0 nothing in regards to .442
jmherndon Jan 21, 2010 at 10:25 pm
How can some carrier I've never heard of it release an official OS for 9700 and VZW cannot release the upgrade to the Storm2 OS, officially?
Finsta Jan 21, 2010 at 10:26 pm
Well, you can go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and run Loader.exe. There is no need to disconnect the internet for the update and it does the update the exact same thing as Desktop Manager by doing it this way. You still need to handle the Vendor.xml file though.

just learned how to do things
thank you

Jayten007 Jan 21, 2010 at 10:29 pm
...help please, i have upgraded the OS many times before following the crackberry instruction 101 and never had a problem, however, for some reason i cannot install this OS, even tried crackmem, when desktop manager searches for updates no updates appear!?!? i have installed, re-installed etc many times, any help?

Deleted vendor file, tried app loader, tried DM with modem disconnected. I was able to do updates with my 8100 but wasn't able to do any with my 8900 or my 9700.
slava888 Jan 21, 2010 at 11:33 pm
To those who upgraded,
Does this build have russian input support?
Thanks
interfasys Jan 22, 2010 at 10:40 am
Yes :)
lexusgs43o Jan 22, 2010 at 5:32 pm
yes it does, you can even see it in the setup screen before you even upgrade.
For those arabic speakers, this update solves the arabic text issue, this OS fully supports arabic now.
corymp Jan 22, 2010 at 12:47 am
I usually upgrade to the newest OS right away without thinking about it, but in my experience I haven't noticed any major differences between revisions..... i guess they must be such small bug fixes that i haven't noticed.
Anyway... does anyone know if there are any major updates as in new features?
callcom Jan 22, 2010 at 1:31 am
Mobile Backup is back (works too), My Faves (don't use it but it's there), the TMO billing app works 100% (plan details back in this version).

themostversatile Jan 22, 2010 at 2:53 am
Problem solved.
lcw9006 Jan 22, 2010 at 4:14 am
Just downloaded on a TMO and everything seems to run a bit faster. One app i noticed is audio postcard, this may be a dumb question but what is this?
sectores Jan 22, 2010 at 7:49 am
For those of you that have tried on this release, would you kindly let us know which 3G bands show up in options/about - hoping its 1,4 and 8 (the t-mobile 3G frequency bands....any other bands may report 3G speed on the phone's display, but will perform only at EDGE speeds).
Thanks!
gerry702 Jan 22, 2010 at 9:07 am
the 3G bands that show up after the upgrade are 1,4, and 8
sectores Jan 22, 2010 at 10:06 am
Looks like the T-mo bands are supported in this package- thanks gerry702!
WINDSORWILLIE Jan 22, 2010 at 7:53 am

cheechoz818 Jan 22, 2010 at 8:50 am
The screen is so much brighter in this OS. I was wondering when they were gonna address that? But very nice and bright now.
ChiTMobileGuy Jan 22, 2010 at 9:24 am
downloaded and installed it on my 9700 from T-Mobile. Had to be disconnected from my home internet to complete it. Looks like Audio Postcard stayed (I got this with .421 update) Actually a cool feature to take a picture and add you voice to it so you can send it via text to someone.
Looks like my internet is much faster now also.
Also crackberry icons went from Red to Teal color.
Other then that I see no changes. Anyone else know of any cool features that maybe in this upgrade that I missed??
saxation Jan 22, 2010 at 12:35 pm
Did anyone see any great improvements?? My current OS is 5.0.0.371, Would I see a big difference from this version to the latest one .442??
It went smoothly... Can someone report in the coming days if the battery life has been improved??
teddyp6 Jan 22, 2010 at 9:47 am
nice update, like many before me have said..it seems faster.
ardhana Jan 22, 2010 at 10:34 am
Hi, currently I using .423 version from Bell, and very exited with inbox menu because now I have Desktop icon for my BES mails. Is the inbox menu still exist in this version? Thanks..
QNX Jan 22, 2010 at 11:08 am
installation went smooth, so far everything seems to be in order

aedillor Jan 23, 2010 at 7:43 pm
the update is looking good so far. have not encounter any problem. will see as i go along during the course of the day and how it holds up. running on a tmobile 9700.
***** just an update. after installing the build, i havent charged my phone. I had 85% during installation, i was at 50% this morning when I woke up and right now still at 20%. thats after doing a few browsing and phone calls with bluetooth and wifi on. and most of the time I'm connected to wifi. This is an awesome build! installed it on the 21st!
phoneboy101 Jan 22, 2010 at 2:05 pm
Does if fix,
-SMS not linking to address book for sender ID
-Audio player closing after being paused for a short while, loosing place in podcasts, etc.
saxation Jan 22, 2010 at 3:59 pm
For the SMS it's fixed finally... I'm so relieved. About the other thing I don't know.
Dem0 Jan 22, 2010 at 2:26 pm
Does this one works on AT&T 3G bands?
tarund Jan 22, 2010 at 2:55 pm
it does work on AT&T. just finished with re-loading apps and restoring data. everything is running smooth. it is definitely much better than .423.
-GPS lock was instant (within 5 secs)
-Battery level is holding up well considering I have launched every app I have installed (19 apps)
-The lag from switching apps seems to be cut down a lot - much smoother transitions from one to another
-Memory management is good.
Will report back more tomorrow after more testing.
fjleon Jan 23, 2010 at 12:09 pm
have you seen 3g coverage? Another guy here has a problem with that. Also, did the battery hold up?
DearFloyd Jan 22, 2010 at 3:54 pm
What about pictures? Are they still fuzzy and does the blue highlight box show clearly which picture you want to select?
Also for themes, is the homescreen AND app screen wallpaper changing? These are two huge bugs I experienced with .423.
lexusgs43o Jan 22, 2010 at 5:31 pm
browsing the gallery which i used to dread on my .423 is now MUCH MUCH faster!
Defiantly a must for everyone on .423!
P.S. anyone else notice pics are brighter too? or is it just me?
cheechoz818 Jan 22, 2010 at 8:25 pm
They definitely made everything more bright with this OS.
HeavyComponent Jan 22, 2010 at 6:32 pm
Downloading now!
atom_ant Jan 22, 2010 at 7:06 pm
update was handled perfectly, following these simple and mandatory steps:
1) close desktop manager
2) disconnect from internet
3) launch and install the new OS
4) delete vendor.xml (folder: c:\program files\common files\ research in motion\Apploader)
5) launch loader.exe (folder: c:\program files\common files\ research in motion\Apploader)
6) be patient, while booting!
Ciao!
PS
I always prefer to wipe my device, prior to any update, using JL_cmder
EWPBB Jan 28, 2010 at 1:09 pm
I'm having problems. I did 1-4 steps fine, but after launching loader.exe it comes to the step "Connecting to JVM" and sits. I let it go for at least 30 minutes and it doesn't get past it. I have OS .405 currently on the phone. Any ideas?
Kimberlee Jan 22, 2010 at 7:47 pm
My battery is draining twice as fast with this new OS. Anybody else notice this. I might have to downgrade, I may give it another day......
spencer500 Jan 22, 2010 at 7:55 pm
Since my upgrade, I have noticed that I have not seen "3G" since. I live in a fringe area, but areas where I normally see 3G, I am only seeing "EDGE". Is anyone else having problems with their phone going into 3G?
Also, on a positive note, I noticed that the 60 second limitation for Visual Voicemail is no longer a limitation. People today could leave me messages longer than 60 seconds. Is that just a coincidence, or could the OS version control that?
spencer500 Jan 22, 2010 at 7:58 pm
There has been some mention of 3G bands? How do I find those on my phone?
chillaxin Jan 23, 2010 at 4:42 am
you will find the bands, 1, 4, 8 under options. click on 'about' and you will see it there, under the OS version.
hope that helped.
sbodstrom Jan 22, 2010 at 8:05 pm
During the update process my PC blue screened. It happened after the OS was installed but right before all my backed up data was restored. Anyone know how to restore this data? I cant open up the blackberry desktop software because its gone and all i have is the blackberry application loader.
razholio Jan 25, 2010 at 3:56 pm
you need to reinstall the desktop manager, and then use that to restore your data from the backup file you made.
k3Ke Jan 22, 2010 at 9:27 pm
especially web browsing is much faster!

My nimbuzz and opera mini 4 don't work on this OS. This issue happen after OS .405.
sro Jan 23, 2010 at 8:14 am
Seems I can download the update but can do nothing with it. Every time I open it it just downloads again and I cannot access it. It does not show in the app loader file...what am I doing wrong? I did this before with an older OS update and it worked fine. The only difference is now my computer is using Windows 7. Any help?

By downlading this software what new? Like what are you getting out of downloading this? Can anyone please tell me
cigardj Jan 24, 2010 at 1:50 pm
I installed .442 yesterday on my TMO 9700 that was running .330 and everything work very well except for my Opera Mini web browser. I was running version 4.2 and somehow 4.2 has converted to a version you would use on a touchscreen device. Has anyone had this problem? What version should I now be running on my 9700.
Everything else seems to re running the same or in some cases, better! My 3G speeds are 1,4, and 8 and the media functions are greatly improved.
NOKJAA Jan 24, 2010 at 6:55 pm
Updated yesterday from .421 (Platform-116). Ive been running .442 for a little more than 24hrs now and so far so good. The previous was OK too...Had only recently run into wireless issues whereby my BBerry would reboot in some instances after I turned off and consequently turned wireless back on again...?!?!?! That was it..
To try to answer your question ´Monster21´; Who knows exactly what we are getting out of this Version / Build. Stability, small tweaks here & there better compatibility with Apps like FaceBook, different Google Apps, etc etc. AND most important(IMHO) its nota a Beta-Leak! It´s from an official Telco Provider.
Bear in mind that us Berrians will mention (Free-of-Charge) any & all changes we come across...
FYI: I followed the **Updated**How To Back-up 3rd Party Applications**Updated for the first time and it worked like a charm. Thanks to Crucial_Xtreme!

Great build kills battery a little faster but everything seems to be running a lot quicker and more reliable, native browser loading crackberry a lot faster and rendering images in a snap, notice camera is counting how mant pics are being taken instead Of how many are left may need a batt pull will update if more info.

So far, this OS is FAST!! Came from TMO default OS.
djthomp Jan 25, 2010 at 3:53 pm
So I have been using it for about 24 hrs now...So far so good. All my apps are running fine. OS seems slightly more responsive than .423. Maybe it is just me, however I have noticed a more stonger/stable 3G coverage in the basement of my home.
josher Jan 25, 2010 at 5:55 pm
I downloaded and installed the OS just fine, but when I boot up my bberry, I get two error messages. One says something about bb_rim_phone app not working; terminated. The seocond is an error about myfaves and proceeds to a white "503: error" screen that asks me to reset. um...Help please!

Anyone else with this issue?
npisano Jan 26, 2010 at 12:47 pm
I'm on the Rogers network in Canada, and my 3G bands are 1,2,5,6. Is this normal? I don't get 1,4 & 8. My speeds seem to be pretty good - at least as good as .423. Otherwise, this OS seems to work great. Reboot time is SIGNIFICANTLY better - 2.5 minutes vs 5.5 minutes with .423. I haven't noticed any problems yet.
jedimstr397 Jan 28, 2010 at 10:41 am
Can someone please just enlighten and possibly reassure me that it's ok to upgrade to .442 from .351 on Rogers Wireless?
I'm always hesitant to do upgrades in this manner, as I have always done the update from my carrier when it became available. I know that a lot of you out there do this all the time.
Are there any issues upgrading this way with an upgrade package meant for a different carrier?
Thanks!

As others have said, it does feel like it is a little faster and the GPS on the new OS is amazingly quick. I will upgrade...again...to the same OS once T-Mobile gets there sh*t together and releases the new OS. Having said that I will tell you why. You can't delete any downloaded themes for some reason and I had to do a battery pull in order to delete pictures, a little weird!?! Other than that it seems OK, not that great but not that bad either. With the bugs that I encountered, I wonder if T-Mobiles OS release will be any different. You get a audio postcard app, which to be honest, isn't that great. You take a picture, pick your border, and add your audio. Your 3G bands are still 1,4,8 and the T-Mobile "my account" app still work, which I was afraid of....not that I use it. The browser seems, to me, about the same. Your "home screen preferences" layout is different. I also received a voicemail, which directed me to 129? It's usually 123, I'll see if it happens again. I'll post anything else that catches my eye or raises any eyebrows, but all in all its OK. The few little things that I don't like are pretty small and not really an issue but I just want them fixed. When T-Mobile releases the new OS I'll update my phone again, hoping everything will go back to normal. Also.....be very patient when your phone restarts when you update. Mine took soo long that I almost did a battery pull, but for fear of hurting my berry I didn't.

I have done everything here! I've downloaded Crackmem... I've tried application loader! Nothing works. When it's time to chose the application, there are a list or apps not just one for the OS. After selecting the list I get a message that says the files aren't compatible with my phone... I don't understand what else I am to do???? Please help!

How do u delete the hidden vendor.xml file??? I've already deleted the vendor.xml, disconnected for the internet...but when I try app loader the new os will appear and then disappear! Then the no updates found message then appears. When I upgraded before (.423) I had to delete the hidden vendor.xml but of course I've forgotten how to do that. PLEASE HELP!!!

vendor.xml should be found in the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader. You can delete it from there, then run Loader.exe from the same folder. DO NOT update via Desktop Manager. Hope that helps.
