Official 5.0.0.847 OS released for Curve 8530 by Metro PCS
For those of us rocking the 8530, OS updates seem to be few and far between, but here's a little something to get you excited. Special thanks to @RystNet for the tip, it looks like Metro PCS has officially released 5.0.0.847 for the BlackBerry Curve 8530. I haven't seen much about this OS yet, but official releases will usually treat you pretty well, having passed carrier testing. You can check out the discussion on it in the forums thread below, if you still want to do a little more research.

Damn... I kinda swore this would never happen on this lifetime, MetrooPCS getting an OS update, they should give an update for the 8330m. This was one of the reasons I switched to Sprint. Working slowly my way to AT&T.

I'm currently in the process of downloading it myself and hope to report back with my findings. Should be able to get this installed tonight. :)

Very strange that I was not listed as the person that submitted it since I posted it and emailed the info in :) lol
Anyway hope the OS works out well

If I had got the info from you originally, I would have credited you, but in this case, I happened to grab the tip from Seven.07, who is @RystNet on Twitter. I linked your thread at the end of the article though. :)

I think it's adorable when noobies ask if an OS will work on their phone. It's so cute....I remember being that guy.
BTW, this update is legit. I like it.

TheHotCorner06 Aug 17, 2010 at 10:24 pm
My wife and I got the 8520 from T-Mobile in February after being told that we would be 5.0 compatible (I know, shoulda got the 9700, but I couldn't sell her on the need for the pricier model). Regardless, despite the carrier's assertions that we would indeed eventually receive the "new" operating system, we have yet to get there. Now, even freaking MetroPCS has the OS 5 upgrade... I'm just saying (and no, I don't want to install a leak). Sigh...
Impheatus Aug 17, 2010 at 11:09 pm
It's not a leak... it's an official release from RIM but bought by MetroPCS! that's the only difference. And the difference speaking about software is just the vendor.xml file created. Other than that you can be running a healthy BlackBerry with another company's build.
I'm in Mexico, my service provider is Telcel and I have a 8520. I downloaded the 5.0.0.822 release from TIM Italy and my BB is working perfectly.
Trust me, you should give it a try.

Installed last night, played with it all night and part of the morning and have not noticed any change... Has anyone found anything aside from the thunder bolt blinking while charging? Witch I don't get because of my theme
joshua.worth Aug 18, 2010 at 11:06 am
I get facebook messages but can't read them now have to go to the site..... Grrrr this OS seems decent otherwise...
compinche Aug 18, 2010 at 11:21 am
I don't have any FB issues other than the app is garbage but I did notice the mobile site looks a lil different now, witch has nothing to do with the OS
the1bigdawg Aug 18, 2010 at 11:48 am
Have anyone with a Sprint 8530 downloaded the update and notice any differences (bad or good)/ Will it really works on a Sprint 8530 w/o any issues?
compinche Aug 18, 2010 at 4:03 pm
dont forget to delete vendor file....thats it, im running it and no issues and nothing really new, it does seem a tad faster and the batter last about 10-15 minutes longer, but so far thats it
BuddyAndBreezysMama Aug 20, 2010 at 12:10 pm
