Official: OS 5.0.0.732 for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 from Verizon Wireless
Yesterday, we brought you word that Verizon was prepping 732 for an official release, and it looks like they have now gone live with it. Word is coming in from the forums that it is now available for OTA upgrade, and via Desktop Manager, although it hasn't posted to the VZW website yet for download. As always, make sure you back up before upgrading, and if you aren't sure about this one just yet, check out the forums thread here.

As a 9630 user, I usually don't get in on the Tour bashing... but man I'm really starting to feel like Big Red's.. well umm... RED headed step child. Pun intended. The Tour is a great phone don't get me wrong.. but all this fancy stuff less than a year after I get my "next generation" Blackberry is really disheartening. C'mon RIM... C'mon VZW... please? maybe an early upgrade??.. something AT&T/iphone4 style? ish? maybe? :(

When you say less than a year, you know you mean 11 months, right? It is a very similar time-of-year release.
Why does everyone harp on RIM for releasing upgraded electronics yearly? It just makes no sense.
You're not a red-headed stepchild. You are a customer who got a great discount on a newly released phone for signing a two-year contract. Next year you can buy the contemporary latest and greatest with another great discount while the people who bought this year's Bold are complaining.
But for now you should continue to enjoy your Tour, which, like you say, is a great phone.

Last time I checked... 11 months was less than a year. So apparently, yes, I DO know that the time frame was well... less than a year.
As I stated I don't get in on the Tour bashing... with that statement I was hoping to imply that I don't RIM/VZW bash either.
Oh well I guess some of us out here in internet land are just looking for someone to "bash" on.
P.S. Verizon offers a 12 month upgrade as well... so IF I decide to, in just over 1 month.. I can upgrade :D

I'm not bashing you. My point is that it's pretty close to a year since the last release. It's just another electronics devices that's upgraded on a yearly basis. who know why they released it at 11 months instead of a full 12? It might be a demographics and timing thing.
My other point is that you already have a great phone. Don't be swayed the latest and greatest. Your phone was the latest and greatest once. Imagine how much more awesome your phone will be if you wait till the 2011 version??? If you're lucky, it will only be 11 months from now. ;)
yourlife Jun 11, 2010 at 7:45 pm
Sooooo less than a year from now eh? ;)
sk8er_tor Jun 11, 2010 at 8:02 pm
Not trying to bash you but what I don't understand is ... if you did not like the original specs, why did you buy it?
yourlife Jun 11, 2010 at 8:15 pm
Never said I didn't.
TheElderBerry Jun 12, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Then what the hell are you talking about?
sweetlittlehugs Jun 11, 2010 at 8:14 pm
The nice thing about Sprint is you become a premier customer quickly and are able to upgrade yearly.

Its up on the VZW site now too. It still says release date of 6/4 but if you look at the details it says MR1 for maintenence release 1. I just downloaded it and its .732
bobaloo Jun 11, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Oh, great. I just spent an hour on the phone with my sister helping her switch to a new BB.
Now I'm going to have to do it again with this upgrade.
abboder Jun 11, 2010 at 7:08 pm
WTF is up with this? The phone came out YESTERDAY! Upgrading my OS is the first this I wanna do when I get a brand new phone the first day it's released....NOT!

My thought as well - sounds like sloppy catch-up to me.
As for us Storm 1 users, of course, there's no love anymore...

Out on the road and just downloaded OTA! What do you think so far?
SteveO86 Jun 11, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Running the OS Update, slight improvement on signal strength over the previous version. so it is an improvement.
muska180 Jun 11, 2010 at 9:49 pm
anyone able to do the download over mac desktop manager?
bluehorseshoe Jun 12, 2010 at 12:28 am
Hopefully the Bluetooth issue with Desktop Manager. The loop is terrible. Can't sync via bluetooth without the 30 second loop.
medman25 Jun 12, 2010 at 12:45 pm
for storm 2 users. I would like to see an official upgrade. I guess we will just hope we can get in on the 6.0 stuff.

brian182 Jun 12, 2010 at 5:25 pm
Waiting on my 9650 to arrive... can anyone tell me if the boot time is any quicker on this new device?! My grandma could walk a mile quicker than it takes the tour to boot up!!
FlicksBerry Jun 12, 2010 at 8:01 pm
The upgrade does NOT solve the alerts issue! Increases signal strength though.

Will this leak work for a bold 9000 os?
sweetlittlehugs Jun 13, 2010 at 12:52 am
This os will work only 9650s. Please only attempt a 9000 os (any carrier) on your device.
tugunsup Jun 13, 2010 at 12:00 pm

I just bought the Bold 9650 last Saturday and it has OS 5.0.0.699. When trying to open certain links, ususally buttons, the cursor will turn into a hand indicating it recognizes it being a link, but will not select and open the link. On many pages I will have to click the menu button and select "Open Link," which should be unnecessary. Then on certain pages the "Open Link" option will not even be on the menu. This is extremely annoying. Has anyone upgraded from .699 to .732? If so, can you tell me whether this has been fixed? Thank you!
