O2 in the UK have announced 'Refresh' - a new 24 month contract that separates the cost of the handset from the cost of calls, SMS and data - and for UK BlackBerry 10 fans you will be pleased to know that the Z10 is included in the range of available smartphones. Why all the fuss you may wonder. The great thing about Refresh is that customers on the new plan can upgrade there phone whenever they want - something that we have not seen offered before.

It works like this - When signing up for O2 Refresh you will effectively be getting a phone plan plus an airtime plan. The cost of doing this is no different to existing contracts which is nice to see. O2 Refresh enables users to pay off the remainder of their Phone Plan and end their Airtime Plan with no termination fee. To make it even more affordable to get the latest smartphone, customers can trade in their old mobile for cash using O2 Recycle, getting up to £260 to put towards their new phone.

Customers will have a choice of three O2 Refresh Airtime Plans, which have been tailored to meet varying call, text and data requirements. For £12 a month, customers get 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data; for £17, customers will have unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data and for £22 they receive unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 2GB of data.

In todays smartphone market this seems a pretty sweet concept if you ask me - Nobody wants the same phone for two years.

If you are in the UK and looking to pick up a BlackBerry Z10 maybe this new deal from O2 is worth considering? Hit us up in the comments with your thoughts.

The major negative being the O2 network...

Sounds good, hopefully it's available on the Q10 when it is released.

Isn't this the same as Wind in Canada?

A major fan of o2 so this makes me happy. Defo taking that option for my Q10 when it becomes available...

This might tip my decision to switch from my 9900 if other carriers decide to follow suit.

Good lord - I JUST got my Z10 yesterday on EE, this deal sounds so sweet :-(

Nothing wrong with O2. I was with Vodaphone for years, switched to O2 about 4 years ago and IMO O2 so much better. Better coverage and service!

Would have been nice if this deal existed before I upgraded. Now I'm out for 2 years nyway.

This is not the same as wind in canada, they do a phone tab, you pay your cell bill and a portion of your monthly payment pays your phone tab, not the same as having two separate statements that you pay, but in essence the reason behind all this is the same, the provider is finding a way to not have to pay for your hardware.

I do like the trade in option though, now that's different but many retailers in canada are doing that as well, ie. wireless wave, telus, bell

2 years sounds nice... when you're in Canada, you're locked for 3. now that's an eternity

Wrong use of their and there

Someone needs to do the 'their, there. they're' test. That aside this does sound a reasonable idea.

Prices aren't for this phone, £36 for Z10 unlimited + 1gb data, unless you have device and just need simcard.

An 02 app would be great on the z10, missing out on priority moments!!!

Don't you get the emails or tweets? I managed to score a couple of Black Sabbath tickets at The O2 Arena in December thru priority moments. Thinking about it, I follow them on twitter and it came thru there.

Very nice.

Surprised no one has equated it to Tmobile US plan.
