Verizon BlackBerry Pearl 8130We've seen this kind of information be wrong before, but I think Verizon users should get their hopes up anyway... that's right, the Boy Genius is reporting a November 1st launch date for the Verizon BlackBerry Pearl 8130. This latest tipe puts the release date about a week earlier than previous rumors have been indicating.

With built-in GPS, Video Recording and a host of other improvements over the standard BlackBerry Pearl 8100 (which never was available on CDMA carriers), this is going to be one sweet device. If you're not up to speed on the 8130 yet, you can learn about the new Verizon Pearl here and then head on over to Verizon's teaser site to sign-up for updates.

November 1st Launch Date for the Verizon BlackBerry Pearl

...Verizon has a history of disabling the native GPS functionality (a la the 8830) forcing customers to pay an extra $10/month for their locator service.

Maybe. Maybe not. When I was in the store looking at the Q, Google Maps worked just fine on it. I think it really depends on the phone and software running it. It is my understanding that VZW usually leaves the SmartPhones alone (meaning they run their native software...not VZW UI). I don't know about the 8830, but I KNOW the Q (Black)worked just fine.

GPS crippled or not this phone packs some sweet hardware in a nice form factor. This is a great offering from VZW.

i used to work for verizon in the i.t. dept

most likely they will lock it down like everything else, im just waiting for at&t to come out with it or the pearl 3 if they make it ;D

truth is, apple went to verizon first with the iphone but because apple wanted to control how customers sign up etc via their pc/itunes and some other things

verizon said no cuz they always want full control over the phones so they went to at&t
