...Verizon has a history of disabling the native GPS functionality (a la the 8830) forcing customers to pay an extra $10/month for their locator service.

Maybe. Maybe not. When I was in the store looking at the Q, Google Maps worked just fine on it. I think it really depends on the phone and software running it. It is my understanding that VZW usually leaves the SmartPhones alone (meaning they run their native software...not VZW UI). I don't know about the 8830, but I KNOW the Q (Black)worked just fine.

GPS crippled or not this phone packs some sweet hardware in a nice form factor. This is a great offering from VZW.

i used to work for verizon in the i.t. dept

most likely they will lock it down like everything else, im just waiting for at&t to come out with it or the pearl 3 if they make it ;D

truth is, apple went to verizon first with the iphone but because apple wanted to control how customers sign up etc via their pc/itunes and some other things

verizon said no cuz they always want full control over the phones so they went to at&t
