Good luck trying to convince the RIM-haters that there's actually demand for RIM's product :-)

Posted by oddlyshaped Tuesday, Nov 29, 2011 177 days ago

You think there is demand for a product that's selling well at 60% off, and didn't sell well at its regular price for 6+ months? By that logic the HP Touchpad was a raging success...

Imagine the sales numbers if the iPad was $199...

I'm sorry, I've said it before I'll say it again. NOTHING comes close to an iPad2. The screen size/shape and the iOS. Any 7 inch tablet/tablet not running iOS is absolute crap in comparison.

This coming from a 3 year BB owner.

Do you even own a PlayBook?

Posted by 1canuck2 Wednesday, Nov 30, 2011 176 days ago

I own both an iPad 2 and a Playbook. I am sad to say the iPad is better and I am a bit of a BB fanboy.

I bought the PB first and held out for apps/features, but they never came fast enough (or at all).

Browsing on PB is great, bridge is good, everything else is pretty inferior.

Lack of apps, and what apps there are lack polish.

While selling at a potential loss isn't the best, this does avoid RIM from holding onto inventory which brings additional costs.

Posted by stacym75 Monday, Nov 28, 2011 178 days ago

Ive had mine since day one and I dont regret a penny spent. This sale makes me happy as the demand for apps will continue to grow.

Posted by smertz Monday, Nov 28, 2011 178 days ago

Do we know actual cost? Has RIM statd actual cost? I thnk the sell-out is great!! Shows a solid product with a marketing issue from the beginning. RIM can learn from this, lets hope they do!! Haters can keep on hating!!!

Posted by xqzu Monday, Nov 28, 2011 178 days ago

I just ordered mine from RIM directly, I'm in Cali, I can hardly wait!!!! I don't care that it is not the iPad or one of the THOUSANDS Android tablets.

Are we supposed to take Worst Buy words? Should we say spin control. And I can see Russia from my house. Very sinister...

I beleive them, looked for the 16GB all over Victoria... sold out. My friends ended up getting the 32GB. I already own the 64GB. My friends saw mine and bought one :)

All great - hopefully this will be read-known-spread by their sales associates.

You really have to wonder if there isn't some grand conspiracy to bring RIM down. No matter what happens, good or bad, someone will report it with a negative slant. BRG, Gizmodo, and even more respected sites like Wired (at least to me they seem more respectable) are all promoting it.

Don't get me wrong, RIM has done many, many stupid things in the last couple of years, but everyone is just dying for them to fail. And why? I don't know... Would everyone really be that much happier if all there was was Apple sheep? Or having to live with a constant Android rat race? Seriously... you know things are messed up when people are routing for Microsoft which for soo many years was the 'evil empire'.

Boggles the mind. But I wouldn't be surprised if this is a science experiment to see if bloggers can bring a company down just on word alone.

Yes, damn haters. I don't think there is a community like this one for iphone or android users. Last week I was talking to my brother in law, huge Apple fan, even before it was on the brink of disaster. Even then, they were still loyal to Apple and partly part of it's success. RIM is not even close to those Apple days and still have crackberry users. For each passing year RIM sells more phones, there are huge opportunities for each smartphone and tablet company. Back to my in-law he told me about the "bad things" of the PB, and like most people, he mentioned the lack of apps, which can be true but also an advantage to developers. However, to make my point I asked him how many apps did he used on a daily basis, not those you play with when you buy something for the first time and he had to admit that he only uses around six, which the average user of a tablet ends up using. So if that's the case, I don't see that as a big problem. Obviously at least you expect to find those that you like, but for the most part people use the tablets to read, play movies and surf the web.

What I think RIM should do is open the BES to other platforms. If they do that, instantly they will become the standard for communication for every platform. Companies are using iphones and androids thanks to companies like Good Technology. Instead of those, RIM should be in everyplatform. This will help them in their marketing efforts and it will generate additional cash flow that they can use for their business and for creating future phones. I think that with each passing day other companies are closing the gap with the security stuff which and the end will hurt RIM products.

I also have been thinking on the reason why RIM isn't selling more phones and I think that in part is because of people like me, that even though I can change my phone I'm waiting for the qwerty bbx phone. Still looking forward to buy a PB before 12/3.

Every single tech blog except you guys tried again to shovel dirt on the PlayBook again. I swear to god just wait. This thing is so ahead of its time its just waiting for the software to catch up. I got it on day one and love it so much I don’t even wince at the current $199 price.

What exactly motivates you to write slander like that? I just don't get it. People can be so ignorant.

I've been wanting a Playbook since well before the price drop. This is just the perfect time to pull the trigger and, obviously, everyone else agrees with me. (or maybe I agree with everyone else?) w/e

New offer on Best Buy, Refurbished Playbooks, 149.99, 169.99 and 199.99. Still says sold out though

Posted by parked Tuesday, Nov 29, 2011 178 days ago

The 64GB (NEW, not refurbished) sold out at Best Buy online SUPER quick (about 2 hours) the weekend before Thanksgiving, but not because of a resurgence in BlackBerry's popularity, sadly. Most people were buying the 64GB to trade-in at Amazon.

Cost was $229.99 + tax at BB.com with an Amazon trade-in value of $401.50. Lots of people were buying 10 or more at a time to send to Amazon or resell.

I managed to get 3 for me and my parents. I will admit that I am seriously thinking of completing 2 trade-ins with Amazon as after playing around with my PB, I feel an iPad would suit my mom and dad better.

Posted by katiepea Tuesday, Nov 29, 2011 178 days ago

well that would explain the influx of playbooks on ebay for slightly higher than $199

Posted by Omahahaha Tuesday, Nov 29, 2011 178 days ago

How can they be sold out when it is still showing for sale on their business site? Am I missing something or is no one reading my posts?

Refurb is showing in stock on regular worst buy site. I still want my new 64GB for $229 :( with business being in stock, all effected by the cancled order should flood them with emails demanding our orders be filled ;p

I web searched in every town across the US where I had family searching Best Buy for PB16gb to no avail. Finally I somehow found thru a Google search Sprint was the last place to have them, and without a contract. My 2 PB's should be arriving today and tomorrow in separate shipping, and they were $199 each!

Posted by Omahahaha Tuesday, Nov 29, 2011 178 days ago

I sent one because I have been a loyal customer for years. I actually like Best Buy and have never had any problems with them besides the usual misinformed floor staff. But I've talked with some that had a clue too.

Running out of stock I can understand. Canceling orders when another of your web sites says in stock is not cool.

Posted by Jaredius Tuesday, Nov 29, 2011 177 days ago

What's jacked up about Best Buy is that at the Southfield, MI. location they claim "no rainchecks" so they are preventing anyone from paying for one en route to the store. So, I guess you're relegated to a first-come-first-serve situation. The only problem with that is they won't tell you when they are expected to arrive. Kind of a stupid way to go about it since the BB store down the way is giving rain checks and know exactly when their stock is arriving. Best Buy just lost a sale for two Playbooks and I will make extra effort to avoid Best Buy and shop on NewEggDotcom for my electronic needs.

Only haters from BGR would speculate negatively about Blackberry.

I ordered one online from Best Buy on 11/21. The latest email from Best Buy on 11/26 in part states:

"The item listed below is still not yet available to be shipped. We will notify you as soon as the item becomes available.
...We apologize for the inconvenience. If we do not hear from you before we ship your item, we will assume that you accept this delay."

Granted, I have good reasons to be skeptical. However, in my book this would indicate that they intend to ship it when the new stock arrives. Nowhere was the word "cancelled" used.

Has anyone else received this message from Best Buy?

So after my horrid experiance with worst buy canceling my 64GB PB for $229 due to not getting anymore in eventhough the business site had plenty...I have been searching high and low for 1! I didn't want to settle for less and get a 16GB. The $399 price is ok I guess for the 64GB but hurt to think about when $229 was what I had paid last week.

So today I run across a seller on eBay who has some with free fedex shippping same day if paid by 3pm est for $325. I almost had 1 in my cart on amazon for $356.99 (4 in stock) when I decided to give eBay another look.

So for those interested search for playbook 64GB buy it now has less than 300 items with the other search fields left at default and after a few cases and cables you will see the $325 pb from the seller feelgood14k from PA. enjoy mine will be here be here by 12/7 woot woot
