Having been through some BlackBerry Beta Zone testing, the latest Facebook for BlackBerry is now ready for download from BlackBerry World. This release sees the app move into version 4.0.0.13 and adds a small handful of changes to the mix. We've got a change log to go along with the release, so here's what you can expect from it:

• Better navigation – Facebook 4.0 provides a new navigation list that allows you to quickly access messages, chat, friend requests and notifications.
• Enhanced photo experience – You now have more options with the Facebook 4.0 update giving you a richer photo experience. Enjoy full screen photo browsing, add or view tags, and instantly Comment and Like.
• Quicker access to updates – Facebook 4.0 gives you faster content updates with a “pull down to refresh” option so you can check for the latest “News Feed” posts, “Wall” posts, “Messages”, “Events” and “Nearby” pages.

Although it should go without saying, this release covers BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry OS 5.0 to 7.1 and is not for BlackBerry 10 smartphones. Cool? You can hit the link below to grab the download.

The Facebook app has received another update and is available now in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. The update brings us to version  4.0.0.12 and includes various fixes and improvements. This one is for legacy devices (not BB10) and is available to all registered Beta Zone members. 

Updates include:

• Improved performance for loading large albums
• Improved navigation with shortcuts
• Improved quick view for messages, chat, friend requests and notifications
• Improved functionality of Likes and Unlikes in view comments page
• Improved track pad sensitivity when highlighting overlay

Download Facebook in the BlackBerry Beta Zone

In the event that you could care less about Facebook, or just haven’t been following the  news, yesterday was a significant day for the social media giant run by Mark Zuckerberg. They rolled out a new Android app, for lack of a better word, that takes over the home screen of Android and deeply integrates with the OS.

The "app" is called Facebook Home. There is no Facebook phone. There’s a very creatively designed Facebook experience that gets layered on top of Android, and can run on most Android phones. Facebook hasn’t forked Android. They’ve obviously gotten Google’s approval here, otherwise they’d not be able to use the Google Play store, or any of the Google apps.  In other words, without Google’s blessing, they’d be in the same position as Amazon, who doesn’t ever speak of Android even though we all know they’re using it.

Today Facebook is set to kick off their "Facebook Phone" event in California and are expected to announce some Android goodies that will be all Facebooked out. On the list is a new app, new software and even some new dedicated Facebook hardware.

Now while we're all about BlackBerry, it never hurts to check out the competition - and seeing what Facebook has to offer today will be interesting to say the least (you can bet it won't be as awesome as the BlackBerry Z10!).

Both Twitter and Facebook received yet another update today for BlackBerry 10 devices. Both apps were off to an okay start and thankfully are being updated quite often to get them more up to par with other platforms. While they still don't pack all the features of their iOS or Android counterparts, they are definitely getting better and adding new features so that's a good sign. 

Twitter adds updated features like full conversation view for Tweets, Direct Message added under the Me tab, ability to edit your profile from within the app and more. 

Facebook brings along improved photo tagging, better event tools and more sharing options.

The app updates will be rolling out in BlackBerry World over the next few hours, but if you're the impatient type just keep refreshing :)

Just a quickie for those of you that like to grab the latest app versions from the BlackBerry Beta Zone. Facebook version 4.0.0.8 is now available and with it brings a fine selection of new improvements:

• Photo tags: ability to add tags to photos with existing tags/photos with no tags
• Photo: pinch-to-zoom ability
• Photo: overlay improvements for full screen photo browsing, including hide/show tag option, updated icons for Like/Comment
• Navigation list (implementation of search feature, new groups and pages list)
• New Separate Friends and Pages screens
• New Notifications quick view and improvements in notifications jewels

Just remember that this is a beta version so there may still be some bugs to iron out -- but that's what your feedback is for. Let us know the good stuff in the comments!

Having Facebook contacts at your fingertips is great unless of course, you don't really want them there. Luckily, there is an easy solution to remove them on BlackBerry 10 if they're not needed.

If you're like pretty much everyone else is the world, you likely have a Facebook account. If you're like me though, you probably don't really use it. For me I keep it around to talk to a small amount of family members and very little else. I have very few contacts on there and I'm not really looking to add any more. For that reason alone, I don't really need those contacts on my phone even though I do like having the app on there and present in the BlackBerry Hub.

Apparently there is a lot of folks out there, while maybe not for the same reasons, really don't want their Facebook contacts on their device and as such have been wondering how to remove them from their BlackBerry 10 device. Luckily, it's a pretty simple process to remove them and still keep the Facebook app active on your device as well as in the BlackBerry Hub. Just in case you're not up on all things iOS and Facebook, Facebook recently updated their Facebook Messenger for iPhone app. The update -- in the U.S. and Canada -- now allows you to place Skype-like audio calls over Wi-Fi to any of your friends who also happen to be in the U.S. or Canada. According to a report coming from the BBC, the functionality will also be expanded to include the BlackBerry and Android platforms as well.

With an L-Series device in the hands of the folks over at Tinhte there has been plenty of hands-on time with BlackBerry 10 spread around. It's safe to say that what we're seeing is certainly not the shipping version of BlackBerry 10 but at the same time the most crucial parts are there and offer a good look at OS overall.   While we've seen the hardware images along with the hands-on video already, we're now being treated to some new images of the overall UI and some apps. Some of the stuff RIM has already showed off previously but you can tell its been updated since then and some of the stuff is entirely new.

If there was any doubt if social media was important to RIM, we can clear that up right now. In the latest S&P/TSX 60 Index for Canada, RIM crushed it by taking top honors overall for the most active in social media for October. The index ranked the top companies in Canada on their use of Twitter, Facebook and YouTube and RIM pulled in a combined score of 98.7 out of a possible 100. Pretty amazing stuff that truly shows the power of social media. While RIM came in 4th for the total number of Tweets, they still hold strong at number one for followers with over 1.5 million.

Facebook version 3.3.0.11 has been officially released in BlackBerry App World. It had a good run in beta and is now ready for prime time. This version brings some much anticipated features include a "refreshed" UI, BBM integration, unfriending, photo enchancements and much more. The new version brings along plenty of updates including updated BBM integration, photo features, unfriending and more. Facebook for BlackBerry v3.3 has hit the BlackBerry Beta Zone. This one doesn't offer too much of an upgrade from the current version, but who doesn't love a beta? Version 3.3 is sporting Enhanced BBM Integration which includes the ability to invite friends to BBM and share your PIN. If you are a frequent user of Facebook chat then you may want to take a look at Facebook Messenger app that has gone live in BlackBerry App World. The official app allows you to chat to your Facebook friends on the go.

Facebook Messenger app features include:

• Message a friend or start a group conversation
• Reach friends on mobile or web
• Get push notifications
• Know who's seen your messages
• Attach photos to messages

The Facebook Messenger app has been available for a while via the Facebook site directly but now it is available through App World.

During BlackBerry Jam Americas, we got to see the first live demo of the official Facebook application for BlackBerry 10. The developers promised that all of the big social networks, like Twitter, LinkedIn, and foursquare will also have their own native apps at launch. The app itself wasn't particularly different from anything you might see on Android or iOS, handling all of the regular stuff like updating your status (complete with location, pictures, and tags), and running through your news feed, however it is very much improved over what we currently have on BlackBerry devices.

Which social networks would you guys like to see on BlackBerry 10 at launch? There was no mention of Google+, but who knows what could happen between now and launch... 

It's that time again for a Facebook update for BlackBerry smartphones. We don't see a huge amount of new stuff in this version but any improvement is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Facebook has had a good run in the Beta Zone lately so you can expect this to be a solid build. Updates include:

New to version 3.2.0.12 are the following features:

• Enhanced Birthday Feature: Customize how your BlackBerry smartphone will integrate birthdays into your calendar. Receive a friendly daily reminder, with the ability to directly write on a friend's wall to wish them Happy Birthday.
• Improved Event Management: View Facebook event information and RSVP to events, as well as post comments to an event wall, view profiles of invited guests and receive event notifications.
• Updated Navigation Grid: Quickly and easily access key features such as your News Feed and Profile with updated icons. The Profile icon is now your current profile picture for a personalized touch.

We mentioned just last week that BlackBerry India was kicking off a new marketing campaign which lead with the slogan 'Action Starts Here', and for the good people of India, that now involves a competition. In line with India's Independence Day, the competition has a social twist to it and makes the most of using Facebook. Users need to visit the specific Facebook page, set a goal, make a pledge in one of the categories available and that will then make you a person of action. You can invite your friends to support you and doing this will earn you points. The more points you earn, the more likely you are to be a winner and be awarded with a BlackBerry smartphone as your grand prize. There will be a total of 20 winners selected and they will each either win a BlackBerry Bold 9900, a Curve 9320 or a Torch 9810 - sweet!

There are a couple of very important rules here though. Firstly; you must be a resident of India to take part and secondly; you must be over the age of 18 years old. The contest has started and will run until September 30th so you have plenty of time to get pledging.

Facebook has once again been updated in the Beta Zone, this time to version 3.2.0.8. This one actually changes quite a bit within the app, so have a look at the list below and see what's been added or changed. Some of the stuff is notbaly carried over from previous builds but improved upon:

• Ability to see the details of an event (basic information only: times, venue, description)
• Ability to see the list of events that a user has created or is invited to in chronological order (not clickable items)
• Ability to see a filtered guest list for the event by RSVP (Going/Not Attending/Maybe/Not Responded/All Invited)
• Ability to see events shown as quickly as possible
• Event notifications open the new event screens
• Ability to change the RSVP status of an event
• Ability to link all Facebook friends' birthdays to your BlackBerry Calendar
• Previously integrated birthdays in the calendar are removed when birthday integration settings are changed
• Ability to select which friends’ birthdays appear in the device calendar
• Ability to see friends birthdays in chronological order from the current date
• Ability to see friends birthday’s grouped with date headers
• Previously contact-linked birthdays are pre-selected

The update is showing now in the BlackBerry Beta Zone, so be sure to grab it if Facebook is your thing. If you're not seeing it yet, sit tight. Looks like it is still filtering through.

Facebook has once again been updated in the Beta Zone, this time to version 3.2.0.7. It brings along with it a few minor updates as well as some bug fixes, so if you're a Facebooker you'll want to grab it. With RIM tucked away now working on BlackBerry 10, it's going to be a while before we start seeing any finalized renditions of what may come to consumers hands in Q1 of 2013 but to help fill the void of what normally would be upcoming device leaks there is some internal slides being floated around. Previously there was some Twitter and Facebook concept images but to further those along, N4BB has posted up their own set of internal slides showing off Facebook alone and how RIM plans to implement their sharing options across multiple applications.

The images of course, are undated so there is no telling how old they are (wagering a guess though, I say before BlackBerry World as the Colt is being referenced) in comparison to the reality of where RIM is at with BlackBerry 10 and their in-house developed Facebook app right now but they certainly do offer some insight into the logic of sharing in BlackBerry 10, which is similar to that found on Android and even iOS at this point.

You'll have to accept the normal disclaimer as well, nothing in these slides give the impression they are finalized so alas, things are always going to be subject to change. That said, we know TAT will be adding some polish to everything so it should all come out looking tip top when all is said and done, what do you all think?

With Twitter for BlackBerry out of the way, RIM has now released the latest update to Facebook for BlackBerry into the BlackBerry Beta Zone. This release has a few changes in it and RIM has listed some of the stuff they're working on for upcoming releases as well.

New features of Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones 3.2.0.5 include:

• In-App view of Friends' Birthdays
• Ability to add Friends' Birthdays to the BlackBerry Calendar

Upcoming features in this version (to be included in the beta refresh release):

• Access to Facebook Events
• An update to the icons on the Navigation Grid
