Looking back: History shows BlackBerry is no Henry Ford

A few weeks back we ran a poll asking what color options you'd want to see for BlackBerry 10 devices. While a good number of you said you'd want to see many color options, most people simply want black and white. There's a famous quote by Henry Ford - "You can have it in any color, as long as it's black." While RIM has mostly stuck to that with their devices over the years, the Curve line is the one big exception (okay, I'll give you a few Pearls too).

While other models don't stray too far from black, silver or white, the Curves have been all across the spectrum when it comes to color. All the way back to the Curve 8310 and 8320 did RIM provide various color options for consumers -- everything from Sunset Orange to Saphire Blue to Ballet Pink. Personally, I'm a fan of black devices, while (as you all know well) Kevin loves his white. I'd love to see a bunch of great colors for BlackBerry 10, I think that we'll most likely end up with black at launch and maybe white will follow a few months later.

It would be awesome to see some fun BlackBerry 10 devices in blue, orange, silver, white, purple ... you name it, but I think RIM will stick with what works and keep the "black" in BlackBerry. We haven't heard anything that even hints at more color options, so it's a pretty safe bet that we won't see anything crazy at launch.

I am not particularly a fan of the color pink when it comes to gadgets ... or sports gear for that matter. I've always hated when I go to a "ladies" section on sports websites, only to find that it just means they have the gear pink -- Not really my style. Of course for others, pink is all they want. When making my rounds today I came across the BlackBerry Curve 9300 in pink, which is exclusive to Phones 4 U.

It available on Orange, Vodafone and O2 networks from £20.50. It is also available on pay as you go for £149.99. If pink is your thing get down to a Phones 4 U store or order online.

Sprint has officially releases OS 6.0.0.706 for the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330 and Style 9670 today. If you're sporting a one of these devices from Sprint, it's been a while since we've had an official update, so grab this one and give it a spin. Verizon is offering up a pretty sweet online-only deal for social messaging junkies. You can pick up a brand new Blackberry Curve 3G (9330) on a 2-year contract for just $49.99 (after $50 instant rebate) bundled with their $10 social messaging plan. The discounted plan isn't an all out BlackBerry data plan and will net you only 75mb of data per month. It's not such a bad deal however if you keep an eye on your data use and stay away from heavy browsing and downloads. Wow - that's a lot of 6's. While we're not the biggest fan of the numbering on this OS - a new OS is a new OS, right?. SmarTone-Vodafone has released OS 6.0.0.666 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Bold 9780, Torch 9800 and Curve 9300. Nothing in yet on what's new with this one, but if you're rolling with one of these devices then give it a go and let us know. Be sure to drop a comment in the forums with your findings. Telus confirms BlackBerry 6 coming to the BlackBerry Curve 3G in January

When it comes to openly discussing device updates often times carriers tend to be rather slim on details. Not Telus though. Least not in this case. Telus Twitter support as you can see above has confirmed the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 will see a BlackBerry 6 update although, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 remains a mystery. Good fur Curve 3G owners. Not so good for BlackBerry Bold 9700 owners. Of course, you could always just load a leak for either device if you're impatient.

Sprint rolling out OS 6.0.0.415 OTA's for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Curve 3G

Earlier today there was some information floating around about the expected release of BlackBerry 6 on Sprint for those of you making use of a BlackBerry Bold 9650 and Curve 3G devices. The information noted that starting December 22 users would be able to download BlackBerry 6 via OTA and then via desktop on December 29. Well, it appears that rollout has begun as we've had a few folks send us tips about the rollout. As you can see in the above image, the OS being delivered is 6.0.0.415 so, be sure to check for updates folks if you have a Bold 9650 or Curve 3G and let us know in the comments if you're seeing it. Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Some keen eyed members of the forums spotted a nice present for Curve 3G owners. It looks like StarHub Ltd is the first carrier of the Curve 3G (9300) to drop an official version of OS 6.0. Hopefully this is a good sign of things to come for other 6-less devices, but don't get too excited just yet. If you're a lucky Curve 3G 9300 then fire up the ol' App Loader and get ready for some OS 6 lovin'. No reports on how it's running yet, so be sure to swing by the forums and let us know. BlackBerry Curve 3G shows up in WIND Mobile inventory system

The other day we made mention of the fact the BlackBerry Curve 3G OS had shown up on the WIND Mobile site, despite the fact the carrier having never released the device. That of course, led us to think the BlackBerry Curve 3G would be arriving at some point on the Canadian carrier. Now, even more proof has shown up in the form of a inventory shot from the WIND Mobile internal systems. The BlackBerry Curve 3G has two slots in the inventory. Presumably, for different colored devices upon release. Still no date or pricing yet but it's another BlackBerry device added to the WIND Mobile lineup for users to choose from.

I always find it funny when carriers out their upcoming devices via their own websites. This time, it looks as though WIND Mobile customers will have the BlackBerry Curve 3G coming their way if the information on the WIND Mobile BlackBerry download page is correct. WIND has posted OS 5.0.0.977 for the BlackBerry Curve 3G which, isn't even in their current line up of devices. We've heard rumors of it before so it's not exactly a surprise but, still rather funny to see the OS before the device. Hopefully it'll show up at some point but as of now, nothing to report on other than the OS being found there. Thanks Vlad!

Rogers enabling UMA for BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Curve 3G

Some Rogers customers may have known this was coming considering previously leaked OS' opened up the ability on the devices but now, we have the information coming to us in a semi official form. Rogers, will soon be pushing a software update out for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Curve 3G that will enable UMA access on both of those devices. With UMA now being enabled, both devices will work for WiFi calling provided you have the proper TalkSpot plan from Rogers. Pretty cool but, one has to wonder why the change of heart?

AT&T announces BlackBerry Curve 3G and BlackBerry Pearl 3G as coming soon

After a long wait, AT&T has finally made it public information that they will indeed be offering the BlackBerry Pearl 3G and the BlackBerry Curve 3G. Why exactly, it took AT&T so long to add the Pearl 3G to their line up we're still not really certain as of yet. One guess is that they were waiting for BlackBerry 6 to get to a more ready stage and then make the device available and now, in that time the BlackBerry Curve 3G has also become available. With offering both those and the BlackBerry Torch it gives AT&T a strong BlackBerry lines up and when BlackBerry 6 rolls out for them all, it should put them in line to be the carrier with the most BlackBerry 6 capable devices. Hands On Look at the new Verizon BlackBerry Curve 3G - an Entry Level BlackBerry that's BlackBerry 6 Ready

Verizon's latest offering comes in the form of the new BlackBerry Curve 3G. A near dead-ringer for its 8530 sibling, the Curve 3G (or 9330) is another "entry-level" device geared towards users just getting into BlackBerry or looking for a cheaper alternative to the more expensive models like the BlackBerry Bold 9650. The device features a full-QWERTY keyboard, Wifi, GPS, optical trackpad and the ability to run BlackBerry 6 thanks to its memory increase from up to 512MB from the standard 256MB found in the Curve 8530 and even the Curve 3G 9300 (upon release, which we have yet to see for a device other than the BlackBerry Torch). The Curve 3G obviously isn't marketed toward seasoned BlackBerry users as most will feel it is a bit of a downgrade with a "cheaper" feel and lower resolution screen. Hands on with the Curve 3G 9330 running BlackBerry 6

Yesterday I got my hands on a new Curve 3G 9330 from Verizon (review to follow) and decided to fire it up and install OS 6. Through much trial and error I finally got OS 6.0.0.222 installed and running. Overall I can say it runs very smooth. All of the features are there and nothing is laggy or sluggish at all. As expected, OS 6 brings along some very cool features to the device like Social Feeds, Universal Search, updated calendar, multiple views and much more. Again we have to keep in mind that the Curve 3G is really an entry-level device for new users, so even though it may seem "cheap" or outdated to some, people who are new to BlackBerry and just need the basics can still get it all on the Curve 3G. AT&T to finally get the Pearl 3G and Curve 3G October 3rd?

It's pretty surprising that no major US carriers (aside from Cincinnati Bell) have picked up the Pearl 3G yet. It was expected months ago, but for some reason is nowhere to be found. Well Engadget is reporting that it may finally be showing up on AT&T in less than a month. According to a rumored device list, both the Pearl 3G and Curve 3G will be making their way to AT&T (with a bunch of other devices) on October 3rd. So if you've been missing out on some SureType action, you won't have to wait much longer.
