New BlackBerry Storm 360 Degree Images
Another day, another BlackBerry Storm post! And I'm sure yet another will come this afternoon once we know the contents of this week's Verizon Talking Up a Storm segment. But this post is all about eye candy. 360º of landscape Storm goodness above and 360º of portait Storm goodness after the jump. Enjoy!!
Update: Here's some substance to go with the pretty pictures. BGR is now calling for a Vodafone launch of the Storm on November 9th. He's not sure if the same date will hold true for Verizon (he heard the 7th... I've now heard the 1st, 7th, 9th and 11th so who knows..these dates seem to always change till a few days before they actually happen. Equally interesting and closer to today is word that RIM/Verizon/Vodafone may be holding a Press Event about the Storm in NYC on October 9th. Read it Here. *

I can't wait for this phone to come out, I play around with my wifes Curve and its a great phone. I just want that touch screen! Hurry up! I've been putting my upgrade off for the last 2 months to get this.
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 11:42 am
2 months? I've been able to upgrade since the end of january. i've been holding off on upgrading originally for the HTC touch that was coming to vzw, but didn't like it much when i played with it.. then found out about the bold... and waited to see when it'd come to vzw... then found out about the storm and knew that it was coming to vzw and i WILL be getting it...
O'Reilly Oct 1, 2008 at 11:51 am
Icey you're way more hardcore than me wiating that long LOL what phone do you have now? I've got the Pocket PC that drives me nuts daily.
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 2:17 pm
I have a BB 7130e... it's still getting me by... so i guess that's why i've been able to wait... i suppose i don't even need to even get the storm... but i want it!
OldPhone Oct 1, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Ugh, I've had this LG VX8100 for years now. I Need this Storm to come out and be good.
Although I have to say this phone has been incredibly reliable and rugged.
Anonymous Oct 1, 2008 at 5:52 pm
try a SCH-a670 ... had it for 3 years 11 months
Anonymous Oct 1, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I have spend the last two years waiting for "the next cool phone" to roll out, and then when it finally does there is talk of a "newer and cooler phone." Right now I'm carrying around a LG - VX6100. I've had it for over 4 years. The storm has my name written all over it!
loooney2ns Oct 1, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I loved that phone! Of course, it was 3 phones ago!

But I've still been looking to upgrade for months. The Storm looks like JUST the ticket. My girlfriend has a Pearl, and while I'm not too sure about the SureType keyboard, I'm still jealous of all the features. I use my phone as a tethered modem, and that's the only way for me to access "real" internet. I can't wait to be able to browse even when I don't have my laptop, and a QWERTY keyboard for emailing will be a nice bonus.
Skylab Oct 1, 2008 at 6:08 pm
I've been due for an upgrade for over 2 years. Nothing has impressed me so far besides the iphone. I hope the storm does!

Ah Finally!!!
I really look forward to getting this phone, although the one thing that worries me is that i remember hearing someplace that you would have to write emails in landscape mode (portrait mode would give you a pearl-like keypad). Thats great and all, but if the device is too long, it becomes hard to get your hands around it so that you can type with your thumbs.
Well we'll see. Could Big Red be any slower with this?
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 11:46 am
don't worry about that... it's shorter than the iphone... your thumbs will be fine... but you can type also in portrait mode using the virtual suretype or multitap keyboards...
CasyCasy Oct 1, 2008 at 11:31 am
Wow, this is just getting better and better everyday... I want, I want... How much longer must I wait... The toture of it all.....

I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
At&tLikesToBlowApple Oct 1, 2008 at 11:54 am
Slower? You do realize Verizon is gonna have the Storm out before At&t ever gets the Bold on shelves, right? At least with they way things look. The Bold was suppose to come out in JULY. It's now October.
At&t sucks. There's no phone on the planet that would make me want to switch to them.
Jedi_Blackberry Oct 1, 2008 at 11:55 am
I was on the fence about this phone. I am slowly coming around.
I called Verizon yesterday to see what discounts were available to me so that I would not have to pay full retail. I can't use the new every 2 until Feb '09. Hopefully the bugs will be worked out by then.
I don't like Paris Hilton but when it comes to this phone, her phrase is appropriate "That's Hot!"
Crucial_Xtreme Oct 1, 2008 at 11:58 am
Looks good.............)
Anonymous Oct 1, 2008 at 12:00 pm
I really like how the screen is flush and not beveled, This is one of the first views of the phone that you can really tell what it looks like. It really gives it clean modern look.
I've been waiting for this thing for months now as well. Does anyone have any thoughts on how the release will go? I plan on getting it the first day it comes out, do you think there will be lines? or worse yet, shortages?
cigardj Oct 1, 2008 at 12:04 pm
I am still a huge fan of the qwerty keyboard, but I also know the first step is admitting that you have a problem. Here it is; "I'm a Crackberry Addict and I want the Storm whether it has a keyboard or not!" I don't know if I wanna use it for business, but I know I want one now.
strhessed Oct 1, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Does ANYBODY know if the screen is plastic or glass ?!?!
Rob B Oct 1, 2008 at 12:20 pm
I don't think anyone knows for sure yet...at least I haven't seen any definitive answers. My guess though is that since it's Blackberry, they're not using the cheap stuff stuff.
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 1:22 pm
they used the cheap stuff on the bold and the case cracks when dropped (the shiny chromed plastic border that is)... so no one knows for sure...
Rob B Oct 1, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Touche... I guess we'll see...
Maxx Oct 1, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Are the top buttons going to be capacitance rather than tactile?
Anonymous Oct 1, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Apparently they are physical buttons that are pressed through the plastic case.
ramsvzw Oct 1, 2008 at 12:15 pm
i have the Voyager right now and i can't wait to switch to a blackberry. I'm dying to get the storm, and this 360 makes me want it even more!I keep calling my local verizon store and they still don't a price point on the storm though!
does anyone have any idea how much it's going to be, im due for an upgrade.
crackberryhead Oct 1, 2008 at 12:16 pm
if this thing comes out before the BOLD, at&t can kiss my A**!!!! Verizon here I come!!!

This phone will be GREAT.
I'm not going to sit here and compare it to the iPhone, because no matter what anyone thinks the iPhone is on of the most sophisticated phones on the market ( Behind the BlackBerry of course : ] ) and there is no need to try to beat it down.
But, I will say I think RIM will be the only company able to make a better all touch screen phone than what the little Genius' down in Cupertino... and this very well may be it!
davemathbn Oct 1, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Has anyone noticed that the black border around the screen (that we've seen in previous images of the Storm) is absent in these pics??
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 1:25 pm
that's cause it's off... and i'm sure you can't see it when it's off... only when the display is on...
Anonymous Oct 1, 2008 at 4:57 pm
I dunno... before it looked like there was an obvious end to the screen and a large plastic spacer between the screen and physical buttons on the bottom of the keyboard.
Valace2 Oct 1, 2008 at 12:45 pm
I think we are all missing something here. This thing is called the Storm, storms are not predicted a month out storms can pop up at anytime. If they are talking about an Oct 9 press conference then I will go out on a line an say the Storm will be out within two weeks of that press conference. That would give vzw two weeks to shill the hell outa this thing on tv and four more weeks of free advertisements thru the talk up a storm wendsday leaks. And for those that say no official tv ads until release I say this, this isn't your typical release this is an unpredictable Storm.I'm guessing Oct 23 or 24
Anonymous Oct 2, 2008 at 7:24 am
stupid
heartlesslion84 Oct 1, 2008 at 1:09 pm
over at BGR they are saying that vodafone is on schedule to release the STORM on Nov 9th. We are just going to have to wait till Oct. 9th conference were RIM and Verizon will officially let the STORM come out.
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 1:28 pm
come on! it's almost 1:30.. talk up the storm already!
GVega35 Oct 1, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Is this only going to be available for Verizon?
Cooknn Oct 1, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Those animated GIF's are misleading as they show the display area taking up all the space from top to bottom - which is how I wish it actually was. But it's not.
slbarows Oct 1, 2008 at 2:13 pm
iPhone meet your match.
Haha, wow, this is just what apple needed to compete with. I cannot wait to get it!
PJ-anon Oct 1, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Having just returned my iPhone I can say that it was a great toy. I hope that the Storm addresses the issues I had with it. A few words of advise.....
-Battery life was horrible, I had GPS, and WiFi off and still could not get a day out of the phone. 3G can be a huge drain on battery life especially if you are in a fringe area and the phone is constantly hunting for a better signal
-For those that are coming from a keyboard to a full touch screen don't start talking about how great it will be until you try it for a few days, typing/texting on the iPhone was horrible, the fact that you can't easily scroll back to the middle of a word to make a correction made it even worse. The fact that it is too easy to hit a neighbor key and not know just compounds the issue.
-First of all it is everything else and then a phone. When I turn it on give me a dial pad and keyboard, don't make me click through multiple areas just to get there
-I am a business user and the inability to search and/or sort e-mail is a problem
-Searching contacts requires multiple clicks to get to a place that you can start searching. I just want to start typing a name and have it immediately pull my contacts
-Apple is killing the App Store, there are many utilities out there that can fix the issues the problem is that Apple won't release them to the store because they are "competitive applications".
-The people I know that are happy with them mostly use them as a replacement for carrying a Nintendo DS/PSP, IPod and a phone.
-It took a pretty bad device to make me feel good about going back to a Treo750 :)
supercool Oct 1, 2008 at 2:30 pm
any details on pricing yet? I'm not up for an upgrade but I don't think I can resist such a beauty like this...
eager2own Oct 1, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Aside from the obvious interface differences (and the apparently earlier release date for the U.S. of the Storm . . . and the difference in carriers), what are the spec/performance/capability differences between the Storm and the Bold?
I've read other threads with comparos between Storm and iPhone -- how about between the Storm and Bold?
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 3:53 pm
as far as i know... the they have the same resolution screen.. but different sizes.. they have the same processors... but different versions of the OS (4.6 bold, 4.7 storm)... they have the same built in storage 1gb... and microSD slots for expansion (storm comes with 8GB card in box)... bold has wi-fi to make up for the at&t 3G deficiency... basically... hardware and performance wise they should be about the same... capabilities vary from many factors..
heartlesslion84 Oct 1, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Lets stop comparering the Storm with the Iphone. Lets all be honest the Iphone is a great device, and if it wasnt for the Iphone we wouldnt be seeing the Storm come out. we can bash on the Iphone now but i bet each and everyone of us was sad that verizon didnt pick it up when it had the chance. so since that didnt happen Iphone was a success. AT&T got lucky with that phone. However, the Storm will be a great device for a lot of people, including myself, but to others it wont. Let the Iphone be, its a good phone with flaws. So lets stop comparing every touch screen phone with the Iphone. Let the Storm come out be the judge for yourself and hopefully this phone tops all touchscreen phones out right now.
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 3:07 pm
sure.. us mature, reasonable people may be able to do that, but you know that the vast majority of america sees the iPhone as the first touch screen phone... which it isn't... but they don't know that.. it is the first touch screen phone that was optimized for finger touching instead of stylus touching... and every phone to follow will be compared to it no matter what... every MP3 player is compared to the iPod and every touch screen phone optimized for finger touch will be compared to the iPhone... personally i love this competition because it'll drive both phones to be better... that's what i like about apple... they make top notch products (not really, but they seem like it to the public) to threaten the marketshare of other products and drive competition... someone will make something better than them (like ms made the zune a much better platform for music lovers than ipod+itunes)... bb can make the phone to give the iphone a run for it's money too..

OK, that was not a joke. I don't quite know why that last comment posted that many times. Sorry guys, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic !
eager2own Oct 1, 2008 at 3:38 pm
I assume this was not in response to my question immediately before, since I am specifically seeking a comparison to the Bold -- not another iPhone comparison.
I imagine many of us are trying to figure out if we should jump on the Storm or wait for the Bold (especially if, like me, others are on AT&T and wondering if its worth switching carriers).
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 3:48 pm

It is getting closer!!!

Must have a UK phone number where they will contact you if you win. I guess everyone else in the world can't sign up for updates to try to win this phone.
songandfilm Oct 1, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Will this be available on any other carrier and will it have WiFi??
LOL sorry couldn't resist - I wanted to beat the usual posters
Oct 1, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Haven't you heard? It's already been released on every other carrier in the world, run its course and has been discontinued. Sorry, but I guess you will have to wait for Verizon to get it.
It did have WiFi but all the MAC numbers in the world were taken so WiFi on this device will never work. Bummer, huh.
I did hear they were giving a free Storm to those that wait right on the San Andreas fault line. Just camp out there and someone will eventually show up with a Storm for you. You must be right on the line & wait there to get it.
songandfilm Oct 1, 2008 at 10:19 pm
I also heard that it's really not called the Storm- it's called Rain Drop and it has a liquid screen.
Amazing times ...
But seriously, this phone is going to rock!
heartlesslion84 Oct 1, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Please people this phone is not coming to T mobile nor AT&T. i hate when people dont get their facts right. its exclusive to verizon/vodafone. yea you can get it unlocked then use it on AT&T weak 3 G services, but why would u do something dumb like that. By the way iceykola you are right on your comment. i personally just get tired of hearing this phone and that phones compared to the iphone. This Phone will rock and if it doesnt, hey its just a phone. We will just wait for another touch screen phone

colossus_x Oct 1, 2008 at 6:14 pm
I share the same concerns a few others have in the forum regarding the battery life. Those huge screens take a lot of power. Our salespeople got iphones and they have to charge them each night. I'm hoping RIM addressed power mgt. issues with the screen. My friends who have curves go 3 to 4 days w/o having to charge. I'm still on the fence, but waiting for the storm to arrive before I decide.
iceykola Oct 1, 2008 at 6:19 pm
the battery life issues on the iphone may be due to the crappy 3G of the at&t network.. and not neccessarily the big screen...
Anonymous Oct 1, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Will T-Mobile end up carrying this phone???? If so, when do you think they will get it?

I live in Michigan and stopped by my local corporate Verizon store, the manager informed me that she believes the Storm will not make it out until around Thanksgiving. This makes sense due to Black Friday, what better present to give than a shiny new Blackberry Storm. Now she says that she is not going to training until the end of October for the Storm. She also said that they first heard about it 2 weeks ago which would jive with the delivery of the Minute with Mike video. Now I don't believe this. She mentioned going online and looking for things there because as she put it things get "leaked". I think if things were really getting "leaked" then someone would get fired. I am sticking with my guess of Oct 23. This thing is a storm not a hurricane. You can see a hurricane comming and have a pretty good guess of where it's going. A Storm is unpredictable. I think if that Oct 9 conference is happening then I think they will announce the release around Oct 23. Take it for what its worth. She mentioned Thanksgiving and that would make sense due to the rage over Black Friday. One good thing though about Black Friday would be possible lower prices. Think most of us might die before then waiting for it.
fantom1023 Oct 1, 2008 at 7:11 pm
OK, I will take one now please. How much and who do I make the check out to? Thank you, bye bye now!!
ongadriano@yahoo.com Oct 1, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Very tempting but hard QWERTY keyboard still reigns. CURVE IS STILL THE BEST!
MMaggio Oct 1, 2008 at 9:57 pm
The keyboard was a make or break for me. Its not texting on a screen that kills its the layout. I had the iPhone for one day and got rid of it cause I couldn't stand typing on that keyboard. Even though I'll have to learn a new keypad truetype is similar to t9word, which is very fast.

BBWorks Oct 2, 2008 at 1:18 am
Partly because its on TMobile's puny 3G network consisting of a handful of cities and it has failed to get the hype that the iPhone got. If ATT's 3G network is any indication of how long 3G on GSM will take to sort out then I would say that by the time TMO gets its 3G stable, Verizon and ATT would be well into 4G.
Locky Oct 2, 2008 at 9:50 am
Well I've just entered the UK voda competition, and the closing date for it is 25th October. So it'd make sense that the launch is around then....
Brent K Oct 2, 2008 at 10:00 am
Okay, Wednesday has come and gone, and we have nothing new as far as news on this. What happened to the leaks on the Minute with Mike thing? Did Verizon decide just to stop giving us tidbits to drool over. You guys over at crackberry need to find one of the working models and give us a video on it. I feel like a junky who needs my fix. Give us something....Does anyone know if the whole case is going to be metal and glass, or is it just the battery cover that is metal? I hope the screen is glass, and I hope this thing is built well and not plastic like the bold. Who am I kidding, I would buy it if it was paper-mache

I currently have the i760 & I'm tired of Windows Mobile! I planned on getting the Curve when I'm up for my upgrade (Nov7th), but now that I see the storm, I'm interested waiting. I vowed to never again own another touchscreen that oriented from portrait to landscape b/c over time my i760 started lagging! Windows Mobile kinda sucks too & BB seems to be where it's at! The BB Storm looks too good to pass up on! The waiting game continues!
