New BlackBerry Messenger 5.0!

* Update: Oct. 7, 2009 - BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 has been officially released. DOWNLOAD HERE. Check out our full BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 Guide for full walk-through. *

We have all gotten a good look at the new BlackBerry messenger on numerous occasions. Now, you can download an unofficial release (leaked version!) to your device and check it out hands on for yourself. All versions have been posted at BlackBerryOS right down to a compatible version for 83xx devices. The Storm, Tour, Bold and 8900 are all there. Be sure to check it out and remember, these are leaked and NOT official - if you lose all your BBM contacts we cannot be held responsible so back up your data before you try these! Only play around with this if you're comfortable in doing so.

To install via standard method, download the zip to your pc and extract. From there you open Desktop Manager, then Application Loader, browse to the folder containing the file and continue on. If that doesn't work, you can try copying the files to where your OS is installed and overwrite the existing ones. Then run and load Desktop Manager it should now show as 5.0 BBM.

I am trying it for my 8900.. it says 'application is not compatible with my device and cannot be loaded'

i am on .250, anyone else have this problem?

I'm getting the same issue here...don't have time to try and fix it now though. Guess I'll mess around more when I get home in a bit.

I have an 8900 with .231.

1. Create folder for BBM2
2. Copy files:

net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod
net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod
javaloader.exe

3. Start CMD and go in created folder for BBM2
4. Plug-in your BB
5. Type:
javaloader -u erase -f net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod
once done type next one:
javaloader -u erase -f net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod

Now device will reboot. After reboot type:
javaloader -u load net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod
once done type next one:
javaloader -u load net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod

done. good luck.

I copied the first two files but Where is "javaloader.exe"? I don't understand. That was not in the file.

Finally!!!! Thanks a milli I tried everything possible for like 3 days straight and this is the only thing that worked ppreciate it

i did everything step by step and it is still telling me that my device is not compatible. can someone help please, i even downloading the new desktop manager. i am using the 8900 .250

i have the 8900 as well any luck so far with the download i went to the link to get the download but it says it was removed

VZW's latest device to get absolutely no love at all..... Does the Curve 8900 4.6.1 version work at least, since it runs the same OS? And why the total lack of Pearl Flip love on CB? I don't think i've heard mention of the device since it launched.

It does kind of show that the Flip has VERY few issues out the door on the official OS (If I find an issue, i'll be sure to let everyone know *LOL*)

The only problem is, it works so well leaks are unnecessary.... And the 4.6.1.236 for Bluegrass Cellular doesn't load on the VZW Flip for whatever reason.

Does not work, copy the files to where your OS is installed...over write the existing ones...THEN run and load desktop manager it should now show as 5.0 BBM.

Windows x86 versions it is located at:

c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\

for Windows x64, the path is:

c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\

The .COD files go into the JAVA subdirectory

The links are posted in the article and on source....links will be updated hosting corrupted the file...I blame the government, lmao!!

go to the source link, it has storm files on there own too.

I am installing. it downloaded with no problem.

well I have it now, it's just that BB desktop manager doesn't think it is a new update. Do I have to update to desktop manager 5.0 or something?

Is this correct? I have it downloaded. I extracted the files (mine it for a Bold) so do I have to place the folder called "BBM_4.6.0" somewhere special? My desktop manager sees nothing new to update to.

Het did it work?? I couldn´t downloaded it! It says it not there anymore!!!! Could you send it to me via email??

Okay it looks like it's installing now, but as it's still going I got an odd email from bbmadmin@eval.blackberry.com

Anyone else get this. Only came into one of my accounts, despite the fact I've got five on the BIS. Never seen one like it before!

Got the same email. Wondered if it was spam from Megaupload or part of the copy we are all "evaluating"

on the 83xx.. whats even new? we have a barcode now and have more emoticons.. but rly.. other than that.. whats the diff?

i have an 8330 and some of the messages are not coming throw like i am getting some late and some not is u having this problem

I tried adding the .alx file in the "remembered" folder, and DM (4.6) reports nothing new to install. Bummer. (Bold on OS 4.6.0.266 soon to be 4.6.0.247.)

Just a heads up for all you Bold 9000 users, it so far has not worked loading it the traditional method when you browse and find the ALX file. it will display and error of "no additional applications designed for your device were found"

The install worked fine on my bold through DM5.0. Just simply browsed for the install and it installed it. Now running nicely. Running OS 4.6.0.282.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS :d:d:d:d:d::d:d:d

I have the VZW 8330 but it says "No additional application was found for your device" or something like that. What am I doing wrong?!

It amazes me that BB is suppose to be one of the most secure phone/data devises on the market yet they can't keep their software/OS development files secure from leaks... *shaking head*

this looks so much nicer! finally RIM figured out that the messenger isn't "all business" and actually made it look like something ppl will want to use. I'm so happy

Installed on my tour as a regular app, DM saw it as an update and went with it. New version is excellent. TY.

This just hit every account I have associated with my Bold.

I may get it to work on my Bold. I'm doing it the super dangerous way. I really hope this works! My Berry may die during surgery! ;)

installed on 8900 5.0.0.100 but there is no icon anywhere (battery pull performed). shows up in applications as 5.0.0.8

Start a message with someone. Over to the far rights is a "smile" emoticons. Click on it and you will see all the others available.

I uploaded the official update for the 8900. Im trying to get this and it say; "The application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded" Is anyone else having the same issue? Should I just install the 5.0 software? Suggestions or help is appreciated.

I'm really excited to see RIM updating things such as this! My Storm is really shaping up to be what I had wanted all along!

I've installed version for 83xx on my 8800 and have not problems during installation, but when BB turned on i cant see BB Messenger. It is in app list (in options) but not in menu etc. Any ideas?

Just loaded up on my .151 Storm 9500 and its working great...

One Q though, right after the install I received this email from RIM (bbadmin@eval.blackberry.com):

Is this legit or what?

I did everything right, all the way to using the Application Loader. It found the program and said it installed the new bbm. But when my phone turned back on I have no bbm at all! Not a huge deal I did backup my phone before installing just incase. I went into my applications and it shows my bbm is still loaded. Any suggestions?!? I am super excited to try this new bmm!!! :) thanks!!

My 8300 is soaking in it. Contact pics! Availability status you can understand! Been wanting something new for my BB, but I'm not a huge fan of changing my theme, so this works for me. Sending the link to all my BBM n00b friends.

So it installed perfectly on my storm, not so much on my wife's 8330 Curve. It showed as installed, but there was no BBM in her menus. ( even tried to set it as a convenience key) Any help, PM me please.

If DM fails then do this. Go to where your OS is installed on your PC example: C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Shared/Loader Files/(Insert OS install name)/Java

Copy the .alx file to that folder and then copy and replace all of the .cod files over to the Java folder.

Next open up Loader.exe and the program should show that BBM is going to be updated. Let it do its thing and you are all done!

Thank goodness I wouldn't have been able to make it 8 more hours at wwork without an OTA I woulda went nuts!! Lol

So far so good!

Update: This is Frigg'n Bad a$$! Did not loose any contacts works great, looks great...Conversations are cool...this is the shizat...now all we need is 5.0 for the storm.

So by overwriting existing files, I got it to install. But I'm getting that BBMADMIN email message on all my accounts, which makes me a little nervous as I do retrieve work accounts via my personal BlackBerry (just so I don't have to carry my brick of a work phone everywhere). Anyone know what the deal is with these notices? (I'm still thinking about the Etisalat thing from earlier.)

States that it is not compatible with my device so cannot load. What can I do next to get this up and running on my BOLD.

Installed on Tour using DM 5.0.

> Downloaded zip file to Windows
> Unzipped zip file
> Launched DM 5.0
> Updated using "Application Loader"
> After Tour reboot checked Applications and sure enough "Blackberry Messenger 5.0.0.8"

Using it now without any problems.

I keep getting a "no additional applications for you device were found" error on Desktop manager when i browse and click on it, do i need to remove the old version of BBM first or something? getting it both on DM and Loader.EXE

just did it on my 8330 works without problem... as soon as ups drops off my tour this is going on it...

Hey all, i tried installing it on my Storm 9530 with .181 on there. Didn't work by finding the file in app loader and when i overwrote the files in the shared folder/Java folder in Research in Motion it still says no app designed for my phone still...any ideas?

I added a picture to my profile with the new BBM, but my contacts who also have the new version don't see the picture...is this a bug or does it take some time to load?

I went through desktop manager, as the instructions were on the front of this site. Then as the phone reset, the BBM icon was completely gone, and looked in every folder - still nothing. I did a battery pull with no help. ANY IDEAS??? HELP!!

i've installed the download for curve 83xx os4.5 in my pearl cdma 8130 with 4.5.0.138 os and works perfect

I had the same thing happen to me, and now I have to get a new phone cause they can't figure out a way to get bbm back on my phone!!! I wish I never saw this leak!!!

this wont work unless you install the new desktop manager. once i did that it worked fine.

I installed it using 4.7 with no problems.

Uggggh. Someone please give me some decent info on what to do?! I downloaded BBM using the apploader and it's nowhere to be found on my blackberry! HELP!

I downloaded the 4.7.1. zip onto my desktop and dragged out the Blackberry Messenger alx but everytime I try to open it in my desktop manager it says "This application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded" please help!

i had the problem. once i installed the updated version of the Blackberry desktop manager that came with my new phone it worked fine and installed with no problems. try that.

It appears to be working.
It's gone one of those QR codes, neat. Really neat. Gonna have to make some new friends to chat with on BBMSger now!
HA!

copy and paste the ALX file into the main OS folder (contains the CMDA, JAVA and other alx files) then copy and paste the CODs into the JAVA folder, then run APPLOADER.

up and running on a tour and an 8330 here. contact pics, broadcast messaging, location information...loads of new goodies to play with.

I'm thinking about doing it, but did it erase anybody's contacts on their 8900? I have quite a bunch, I don't know how to back them up either...

installed with no problems but for those with issues:

Goto C:/Program Files (x86) if you run 64 bit/ Common Files/ Research In Motion/Shared/Loader Files. Then open the OS you are running, put the ALX file in the first screen, then enter the java folder and copy and paste all cods in there.

this is for the ones with the issue:

"no additional applications designed for your device were found" issue when loading it through desktop manager..

Does work well using the apploader.exe option. I did NOT lose my contact list. working well.
Used DM 5.0

Used this method as posted by HotCelica:

"If DM fails then do this.

Let it do its thing and you are all done!"

So what are people doing who have downloaded the new BBM successfully but don't have a viewable icon after the phone resets? I confirmed that it uploaded as it should have because version 5.0.0.8 is listed in my Applications list, but how do I open it or add the icon to my main screen???

Working great, first attempt. Bold running 4.6.0.282 via DM 5.0. Used the first method: unzipped folder to desktop -> DM -> Application Loader -> Add/Remove Applications -> Browse to folder, click on alx and it was all good! (Didn't get 'that' email, either) SWEEEEEEEET!!

Just loaded on 9530!!! lovin it... used the App loader method.. didnt lose any contacts... what a way to kick off the weekend!!!!

.. i just updated my new BB Tour !! and it works GREAT !! i am stunned by how well this leaked version runs. So far all my contacts are all present & there is no lag or 'freezing' !! it runs just like it should !! I'm soooo happy that i have this, it just makes my new Tour that much more Amazing !!!

Anyone with the icon problem get it figured out yet? The new BBM is definitely on my phone...I just can't find it or open it??? I added it to my QuickLaunch menu also, but when I click on it, it doesn't open...it just times out with the hourglass...help???

thanks so much for the reply ! But after i unzipped the files there are 2 folders, im really confused then there are alot of files in one and a seperate ALX file

OMG, i am soooo loving the new messenger. i have 8330 from sprint and it works fine. i like how you can send a group message and all that. its fantastic!!!! i had no problems with downloading at all.

I guess I have to go back to the old BBM until the official release comes out. Obviously there's problems with getting this to work on Verizon's Curve 8330 at the very least. I tried re-downloading and the same problem...no ICON, no way to open it, yet it shows up in my App list. FRUSTRATING!!

Working good after I found the correct link. I used the app loader after replacing the old files with the new....Sweet!

Just tried it and it works fine on my 8900. I'm running .250 OS. Didn't delete my contacts or anything. I have an icon and everything. It's basically prettier now...that's all really.

Just installed it on my 8320 with no issues. Comes at a perfect time b/c my friend just got the Tour on Sunday and I was jealous... at least I have the same BBM now!

Installed on 2 Bolds running .282 and a Curve 8310

Used DM 4.7 and DM 5.0 (Different Computers) as long as you follow the instructions.... FLAWLESS on both! (Curve was easier than the Bold and for that one I used DM 5.0. For the Bolds, I had to use the method of copying in to my installation folder first but for the Curve all was perfect.

tried everything that has been mentioned, desktop 5.0 with replacing files and just uploading new software...won't work. please help?

I installed the bbm 5.0 on my 8330 and it shows on my phone that its there but, i have no icon. i have no way of using it, somebody help me please?

ok so i uploaded bbm through the apploader, but there is no icon for it on my phone, but theres a file for it under applications. Im reading enteries about copying COD files.. what r those?! lol HELP!

ok i got the 8330 curve and some of the messages are coming in slow and some i get right away is anyone else having this problem.

On past devices ive been pretty good at slight hacks but on my bOld and due to my being on Mac ive been hesitant. I could not resist this BBM 5.0
I installed Desktop 5.0 on my old Vaio, downloaded BBM 5. 4.6 for Bold, copied the english COD file and the Blackberry alx file to a new folder, started desktop manager, went to add programs, browsed to the new folder with the alx and english cod files and voila!, it found them. I clicked to open the alx and it put the BBM 5.0 on the files to be installed list. I hit next and it rebooted and its there, 5.0.

Im running .282 on ATT and all is well. It is really cool but I need peeps to PIN me 20 CEA 7F4

EDIT: I just see on a new Tweet that the files can be had now OTA, great...

ok so i uploaded bbm through the apploader, but there is no icon for it on my phone, but theres a file for it under applications. Im reading enteries about copying COD files.. what r those?! lol HELP!

Okay so I am running OS 4.6.1.239 and installed the new BBM..

The BBM upgrade is badass, but I do not hear any sound when I get messages. I've changed the setting and still nothing.

Has anyone been able to get this working on a Bold running OS 5.0.0.100? If so can you please post how. I have tried all the methods and none of them appear to work. Its in application list but no icon. If anyone can help please PM me or post in here. Thanks

i have an 8330 and some of the messages are not coming throw like i am getting some late and some not is anyone else having this problem

Has anyone got this to fully work on the 8330 vzw Curve? I'm trying to load it on my girls BB, seeing as my new storm replacement does not come until tomorrow. Any suggestions??

I have an 8330. I have DM 5.0 I downloaded it. it said i had new things to install and it showed up... It started to install. it got to the loading applications screen with task in progress 1 of 2 at the top and it gets about halfway through the bar and then stops. I have been waiting for about 5 min. is this normal? any sugestions?

Works like a charm on my Bold, just copy the files to where the OS is installed on your PC, start the DM and update BBM, that's all folks : )
