For UK commuters myTrains Pro for BlackBerry 10 just got super smart!

If you're in the UK you may well be interested to hear that myTrains from mxData has received a rather special update. There's both a free and paid (Pro) version of the app - which is available for all BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

We first took a look at myTrains a little over a year ago on video and it's remained on my BlackBerry ever since. If you use the train it's a must have tool to make your journey and planning a whole bunch easier.

The app which was already very clever just got super smart. I've been rocking the new version for a couple of weeks secretly and the improvements are awesome. MXData have been working closely with BlackBerry themselves to ensure the app is a clever as it can be.

Check out the cool new features in version 1.4.0.89 below:

  • From the app menu set home & work stops and manage a commute schedule.
  • Get push notifications whenever there's an issue or delay which could affect your commute.
  • myTrains Pro Home Screen now shows departures for stations of interest to you based on your Smarter Travel settings and current location.
  • Station search now has a free text field to make searching for a station so much easier and quicker.
  • Active Frame - Keep up to date on your device Home Screen without having myTrains Pro open.
  • BBM integration - When on a commute your BBM profile box will be updated so friends know you're on the train.

Give the free version a whirl and see how you get on?

I use transit on Google Maps. Is this app better?

The default font size is too small - not that smart.

marcusperkins

The only way to make it bigger is to increase the BlackBerry system font size - by the time it's big enough the fonts for email/texts/BBM are just too big.

Yet another poorly thought out app.

Mx have released a similar update to their equally good Tube Map app... which I would highly recommend to anyone who uses the London Underground system, either on a regular basis or just as a visit to the city.

The timing for this app couldn't be anymore perfect! I'm heading to the UK in 2 weeks and was thinking of doing some of my journey by rail rather than relying on a rental car all the time.

Pete The Penguin

Stick to a rental car; our railways are expensive, slow and dilapidated.

We have the highest fares in Western Europe.

Jonesy1966

Yeah, I know that but I love catching the train, it allows me to kick back and relax and watch the country go by. Plus I don't have to worry about speed cameras! ;)

Stick to the train! I've been to the UK 5 times for several weeks. That country is completely travel-able with public transport! Trains are dirt cheap compared to Germany and buses go everywhere.

What's so special about the updates?

ozlonzo

As far as I can see, the app doesn't allow you to select 'London Any' as a station which makes it a pain to use to work out a journey that involves going to London

Does this work in toronto?

Just noticed, from the Free app, if you go to "About" and select the more apps button and then select an app to find out more about it or download it - it takes you to the iTunes store... Ooops!
Not going to get many sales from the BlackBerry World store doing that!

Sorry but it's an apalling app. The app National Rail is tonnes better. It even let's you track your train on its route to see which stations it left and how late
