Over 400,000 Downloads In Its First Week!

Call me lazy... but why re-write a perfectly well written press release?? Looks like there are a lot of MySpace + BlackBerry Users out there...

MySpace for BlackBerry Smartphones Exceeds 400,000 Downloads in First Week

LOS ANGELES and WATERLOO, ON-November 21, 2008-MySpace, the world's premier social network, and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM), a global leader in wireless innovation, today announced record download numbers of the MySpace for BlackBerry smartphones application in its first week of availability.

Since the application's launch on November 13, 2008 there have been more than 400,000 downloads which represents an all-time high for both MySpace and RIM in terms of first week application downloads. Through the MySpace for BlackBerry smartphones application, users collectively sent and received more than 15 million messages and updated their mood and status over two million times in the first week.

"We established an innovative and collaborative partnership with RIM to address a key desire of consumers to have greater mobile connectivity and interaction with their friends and the global community at large," said Chris DeWolfe, co-founder and chief executive officer of MySpace. "This record shows just how much of a force in the mobile consumer space RIM and MySpace have become."

The MySpace for BlackBerry smartphones application is fully optimized to deliver rich content and data to users on the go. MySpace for BlackBerry smartphones integrates MySpace's primary social networking components with the BlackBerry platform to provide instant, push-based messaging to users. It is available for download at www.blackberry.com/myspace or m.myspace.com from your BlackBerry Browser. The application is available for a wide variety of BlackBerry smartphones, including the BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Pearl and BlackBerry 8800 Series, and will be available to BlackBerry Storm users beginning November 24, 2008.

the myspace app is kinda of lame, whenever someone comments me, it never beeps or anything, it doesnt even notify me??

i all of a sudden have this program on my BB. i didn't download it. it just appeared on my BB yesterday. i don't even have a myspace account. is the myspace program downloaded on my BB included in this 400,000 total. it makes these numbers seem padded if people are getting the program on their BB even if they don't want it. i have sprint

I had it pushed to my device all of a sudden as well, along with the Flickr application. I use don't use either service. I am on Rogers.

I agree, it shouldn't could towards the 400,000 download number since I wouldn't have downloaded it to begin with.

I don't think that its on your BB. its probably a shortcut to install it so it wont count. Try clicking on it and see if it brings you to an install page.

I have this and it rocks. Its is much better than the Facebook application as it allows you to do just about everything you can on the website. i can view pictures and whatnot whereas Facebook app directs you to the web to view full profiles

It was pushed to my BlackBerry all of a sudden as well, but I don't think it is the application, just the shortcut to download it. I clicked on it (to see what it would do) and then it took me to the download screen. I did not download it.
I also had the MyYahoo icon suddenly appear. I just hid both icons since there is no way to remove them.

I had the Facebook app which was nice enough to check things but to update anything besides your status it just directs you to the mobile page, and I wasn't expecting much more from the MySpace app but I was very pleasntly surprised. You can do EVERYTHING from the app that you can do online. My favorite feature is that I can set any picture that I want as my wallpaper w/out having to download or save it. Just menu> set to Home Screen and voila! I hope that the Facebook app gets upgraded and is as convienent as the MySpace one is.

I like the app but mine never updates. I get an error if I hit menu update, I have to log out then back in to get my new messages. Only thing it seems to update are my friend status.

I receive home notifications from MySpace on my BB.

To start receiving MySpace notifications, make sure the email address associated with your BlackBerry smartphone is the same email address that receives your MySpace notifications.
