This one will have you jumping out of bed in the mornings - My Alarm Clock for BlackBerry 10

I'm pretty sure that in this day and age most of us use our smartphones as an alarm clock in the mornings. Of course, we have a native option on BlackBerry 10 but it just doesn't do it for me. Sure, we know we will get the multiple alarm option in BlackBerry 10.2 but relying on the native alarm doesn't get me up. Luckily I discovered My Alarm Clock in BlackBerry World and when that things goes off there is no chance of not hearing it!

There's a ton of features within the app which you will see below but there are a couple of things that make this particular app my alarm clock of choice. First up is the selection of alarm tones. Not so much the variety, but the quality and loudness of them. There is a snooze option but if you pick the right tone this app will have you springing out of bed to turn it off.

Multiple alarms are also present which I love as I always like to have a back up - just in case I do snooze a bit too much. You can also use your own music if you want, not only as the alarm but as a sleep timer if you so desire. I'm not a big fan of this but it's a great bonus feature to have.

The user interface is kept simple with a nice blue clock on a black background and you even have the option for having current weather conditions on the screen.

Full features of the app include:

  • Alarm Clock: wake up to your favorite music
  • Weather information: check live local conditions and temperature
  • Designer clocks: enjoy a variety of stylish clock faces
  • Sleep Timer: fall asleep to relaxing tunes or white noise
  • Night stand mode: turn your device into a gorgeous bedside clock
  • Portrait and landscape modes: the clock works perfectly in both orientations
  • Multiple alarm support: you’ll never oversleep or miss an important event!
  • Background alarm support: alarm will ring even if the app is not running
  • Shortcuts on the main screen: get easy access to the sleep timer and alarms

There are numerous options for alarm clocks in BlackBerry World but this one gets the big thumbs up from me and for just under a buck it's a bargain. Plus there is Q10 support as well as Z10 so everyone's a winner.

I would love to have a app which switch the airplane mode on or off automatically when I switch the bedside mode on or off.

If you want a better selection of ring tones for the native alarm, download them. I downloaded "Evolving Dream", the alarm from bb7. It's my favorite alarm.

Ditto this. After a careful read of the review, the only difference I see is multiple alarms. I quite like the built-in clock and, with the upgrades coming soon, I'll stick with it.

My reading also turned up another difference: nightstand mode, which would seem to be a screen keep-alive feature, which I have otherwise yet to see made available in any way, shape, form, or app.

With my Z10 on charger and the clock running full-screen, bedside mode keeps the clock dimmed but visible all night long (nice dark red on black).

Of course you're right. For me, the screen is too dim to be seen in bedside mode, so I had forgotten that it did that. I'm gonna try the 10.2 clock and see if that works for me.

I only found that to be the case with the digital clock. I can make out the time with the analog one. My room is really dark, though. What would be really sweet is a brightness setting for bedside mode along with the existing "phone calls only" setting. Maybe it's in the 10.2 version (crossed fingers).

I'm good I wake up to the Prelude of Light from Zelda OoT every day using the native app. That song just sounds like morning

You can find the 10.2 clock .bar file in the forums. Works perfectly with 10.1 OS. Just side load with DDPB, and you're good to go!

Can anyone comment on battery drain? Do you HAVE to keep the Z10 charging? I downloaded an alarm app for my PlayBook and it would drain the battery overnight.

I'm curious as to why you wouldn't keep your PB plugged in all night -- especially, but not only, if the alarm app you're using keeps the screen lit? Overnight is the perfect time to charge it.

Question? If the alarm app doesn't have to be running, isn't that essentially a "headless" app? Why does it work in situations like this but not for LED colours, etc.?

Posted via CB10

It's not really headless. I've been using it "headless" and it only plays a short clip of the tone apparently. I e-mailed them asking why it doesn't work at all when it says its supposed to, they said if the app isn't open and active it will only play for a short duration or NOT AT ALL depending on your phones sound settings.

So basically - don't use it as a headless app, and don't waste your money (even if it is only $1)

Would have been nice to know this wasn't native. It's a port and freezes and asks me if I want to "force close" when I try and do anything.

James likes to post apps that are a) usually androids b) not free c) every app that he pays for somehow is a "bargain" compared to all the other free apps there is.

Posted via CB10

No, James likes to post apps that he likes. We often get sent apps but if we don't like them ourselves we don't post them.
I don't care if they are Android as long as they do the job.
Good day to you.

This one is a Android Port while the one on this post is actually a native app

The alarm I want has to have a big snooze button so I won't press stop alarm instead of snooze. I had tried it and bring late few times because I snooze many times before waking up. Also long hold to stop the alarm to avoid accidentally touching the stop button by mistake. Side loaded circle alarm seems to be the only choice I have and I love it. The only problem is that you have to toggle off and on the alarm setting after restarting the phone, which is tolerable for me because I don't restart the phone often.

Did you read the customers reviews before posting this app on CB?

No repeat days

Posted via CB10

There is repeat days. Where it says "Never" you click and you can select every day of the week if you choose to.

Posted via CB10

I only get up once every day. Then, at the end of these days where I wake up once, I go to sleep once. Then wake up again. Over and over. Salut.

Posted via CB10 from my Q10 or my Z10, either way it's golden.

I have calendar alerts for those types of things. I just don't see anything missing from the built in clock app, other than a better way to enter bedside mode.

Posted via CB10

Q10 rocks. Have you seen that phone yet? It's like wireless jewelry.

Anyone else having some issues with the BBM app? Sometimes when I already have it open and enter it. It freezes really bad. Then crashes and closes the tab by itself!

Posted via CB10

The best alarm clock for playbook is the app called alarm clock. *lol
Try it, you can even set the loudness for each alarm.

Would like an alarm app that when you turn your phone off the alarm will still go off at the time you've set it like on my old 9780

Posted via CB10

It only has repeat for Mon, Tues and Wed...I don't see repeat for the rest of the week.

Posted via CB10 using my Q10

The repeat alarm seems mixed up! It has Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday then Monday, Monday + Tuesday again! The alarm does not seem to go off when the app is shut either

Posted via CB10

Not a snowballs chance in hell would I ever pay for any alarm app. I'll stick with the leaked 10.2 version. Thanks anyway.

I love the alarm built in. I am a light sleeper so I like a very soft alarm
Does not take much at all to wake me up.

Posted via CB10

Installed but never got try it. Kept erroring out, not saving alarms I set up. Finally wouldn't even let me in to set any alarm at all. Waste of a dollar. Deleted
