MTS Mobility Releases OS 5.0.0.484 ... for the Storm 9500?

*Update: Looks like the issue has been fixed. The download page now shows OS 5.0.0.419 for the Storm 9530. *

In what looked to be another official OS, MTS Mobility has dropped OS 5.0.0.484 -- but it appears to be for the Storm 9500, NOT the 9530. At first glance it seems like 9530 all the way, but as you can clearly see, the filename is "9500" (I installed the OS on my PC to verify). As MTS Mobility is a CDMA carrier, we're not really sure who is to blame for the mix up. The forums lit up with the good news of a 9530 release, only to be let down upon further inspection. We'll try to figure out just what gives and report back. Until then, if you are a 9530 user, do not try to install this OS on your device :-)

I figured when I saw the new official release for Storm 2 that it was just more evidence of no love any more for the 9530, and this looks like another nail in the coffin. Bummer.

Okay, yesterday, RIM posted this OS update for MTS Mobility, with application version 5.0.0.484. However, when users downloaded the file, they found an OS for the Storm 9500 (which MTS doesn't even use!)

That's why this was posted. There is NO new OS for the 9530. As for the 9500, .484 was leaked a few weeks ago.
Someone at MTS and/or RIM screwed up the file release, that's where all the confusion has come from.

I assume this was their mistake, posting an incorrect link to the file. I'd say MTS released .484 for the 9530, but it's been linked wrong :(

I was really hoping for a 9530 release. I've been waiting for a leak for the 9530 for a while now, but thats not to say that we won't ever get one, we 9530 owners just have to wait it out a litle longer. I'm still happy with my device though.

I have had 9530 since it came out and the build 5.0.0.419 was the best build to date. I have zero issues, were as other leaks I have had issues.

I love my storm I have one strange thing that I have noticed within the last month. Right in the center of the screen there is a bright spot. see link

Its a known issue. Essentially the big metal button is getting so hot its burning into back of your screen. You see it on white pages. If you use the media functions a lot this happens quicker.

Call your carrier, Tell them your Storm is getting exceptionally hot, you notice an odd smell and their is a white circle that has begin to show through on your screen. They will replace it no questions asked. As I said, they discovered the issue almost a year ago and have kept it largely under wraps.

It looks like they pulled it. I just looked at the MTS Mobility and they didn't have that version anymore. They just had these:

Do release numbers indicate any big differences if application and platform versions are the same? I hope this was another mistake by MTS and that they do upload 5.0.0.484 in the end.

The up date said that they fixed it to 9530......I just checked and it states 9500..... ??????

I'm really confused. Wasn't a .419 already leaked/released for the 9530. I've got .419 installed with a .497 hybrid installed over it. What is the advantage of this release? Is the radio file different/newer?

I need a little help in figuring out what is going on here.
