Become your own film director with Movie VFX for BlackBerry 10

By Alicia Erlich on 8 Aug 2013 04:44 pm EDT

Have you ever wanted to create your own mini movie with special effects? What better way to get into the director's chair than with Movie VFX and share those results with friends and family? There are all sorts of possibilities and creations to be made that are both exciting and hilarious depending on what you film.

From the developer that brought you Speed Dial and Camera Timer, this time they focused on creating an entertaining app to bring out the filmmaker in all of us.

One thing I have to point out is how easy to use Toysoft's applications. All that's needed is a good eye for detail and a quick tap on record. In just a matter of moments your video is generated with no lag and the results look amazing. Be aware that it does require quite a bit of memory to load the effects and, as such, you should close all running applications before opening Movie FX. For optimal performance, it is also recommended that users are running OS 10.1.

Let's dive into your video. All of the visual effects are located in the center of the screen and all that is required is tapping on the desired one to begin. Each of the shorts are recorded in real-time with the option for sepia and greyscale. They can also be edited after the fact or imported into Story Maker to create full length videos. Users have the option of previewing the event to frame their scene, tapping on the record button to start shooting, and then choosing the add effects icon to overlay. Changes are then saved and stored in device memory.

RIght now there are only four effects available: UFO Attack, Bomber, Humvee, or Gun Shots. However, if you are eager for more there is another application available that offers Car Bomb, Air Attack, Asteroid, and Police. Both applications support the BlackBerry Z10, Q10, and Q5 and can be grabbed at the links below for $0.99 each.

What are you waiting for? I know it was fun walking around Times Square creating my own UFO invasion videos and I can only imagine what marvelous full length features are waiting to be filmed when combined with Story Maker.

Car bomb? Recreating terrorist attacks doesn't sound like it's for me.

You may be better off to just stop watching movies then.

Uh-oh. Here comes the PC brigade.

Oh man I wish I had the time to check these apps out.

I had so many jobs already to become a film maker.

One problem with phone based video is that they are large files which may be difficult to transfer OTA to another device.
Transfer by USB is usually easier.
Then, PC editing may be more effective.
That being said, this app may be good for showing the edit video on your own phone or HD cable connect to a TV or monitor.

Yep bought this app a month ago and have to say that so far it's awesome, it can do with more sfx as only four to use, love to see either lightening destruction, hurricane or tornado destruction... I think the dev has done well to bring this app to bbry...

Oops I forgot to mention I have the movie vfx the first one... it's got better effects than the 2nd one by the look of it...

Will be good for short stories and documentary. I hope is available for PlayBook.

Here are some demo vfxs

YouTube Demos all made on the BlackBerry Q10 without editing Air Attack - YouTube Metroid hitting the ground - YouTube Car bomb explosion - YouTube Police Car explosion - YouTube

That's actually pretty sweet! LoL
I wonder if the files can be used with Story Maker for an extra layer of editing.

Oh, my bad, I guess I can be combined with Story Maker. Sweet deal.

Sweet, can't wait to use it

Can't see this getting boring real fast!

I saw a movie trailer app for the iPhone last weekend that was amazing. I applaud the dev for making a BB10 app but we need to kick it up a notch boys!

The diff with iPhone app is that they do post-processing vs Movie VFX does effect in realtime with the video. There isn't anything amazing about the iPhone version. They just a got more effects.
