Hands on with Modern Combat 4 on the BlackBerry PlayBook

We mentioned a while ago that Modern Combat 4 had hit BlackBerry 10 and that was shortly followed by its arrival on the BlackBerry PlayBook. I'm a huge fan of the series and although I've been playing it on my Z10 I prefer to play this type of game on a bigger screen so I had to download it for the PlayBook too.

If you have played any of the previous versions, on any platform, you know that you are going to get a truly fantastic gaming experience and Modern Combat 4 is no different. The graphics and sound effects are supurb and it runs like a dream on the PlayBook.

Controls wise things are much the same as before, You have a virtual joypad on the left of the screen and you can use your other thumb to pan around. We also get the crouch tab, a run tab and of course the fire and cross hair buttons. Various weapons can be picked up along the way and these are shown at the top right of the screen. You can switch weapons just by swiping the tab.

The better you do the more cash you will earn which you can spend in the shop. I tend to spend most of mine on grenades as they come in jolly handy but there is a selection of items to buy.

If you like action packed combat style games this is the one to get and at only $0.99 you won't find a better game for that price.

Head on over to BlackBerry World on your PlayBook to pick this one up or if you want it for your Z10 click the link below from your device.

Hands on with Modern Combat 4 on the BlackBerry PlayBook

Are there any graphical differences between the BB10 and PB versions? The Z10 is more than 50% faster and has twice as much RAM, I would certainly hope it looks better on the Z10.

Is it available for the same price for the PlayBook and Z10? Do I need to pay twice?

Didn't Modern Combat feature multiplayer? :P

Does anyone know of a good Air Combat fighter game of this detail? Much like Jane's Combat Simulations WWII Fighters? This would be great for the PB!!!!

On the what? Playbook you say. Hmmmmm, think I had one or two of those round here somewhere. Bear with me. I forgot about them shortly after Blackberry did. Oh, here they are. One was being used as a doorstop and the other was in the cat's litter tray. I might charge them up. I hear (over and over and over and over and . . . ) that Blackberry "continue to evaluate our tablet strategy, but we have not made any shifts in the short term. When we have new info, we will share it". Now if you'll excuse me, I appear to have got my tongue stuck in my cheek.

I can't agree with either of you responders. Likely cos I also have 2 PlayBooks and don't have much to do with them now that...

Oh I'm sorry... there is a new softcore bondage ebook and a map for random cities in Slovenia to download.

My bad.

I attached 1 of my 4 units to the big screen permanently and use my z10 to run it. Good for YouTube, music videos etc. The PlayBook was a fantastic device when we had the full bridge with my old bold 9000!

Where's my FULL BRIDGE Mr. Heins? Please return it!

Exactly what I'm banging on about and the quote is Blackberry's 'official' response to any questions regarding bridge or any other issue - oh I'm sorry I've just realised I'm being useless and pointless again

@bozvandam Don't listen to chicken man, he's just one of those fanboys who gets his knickers in a twist over any perceived negativity towards B.B., even if its tongue in cheek!

Now I just need to find the time to play this and Dark Knight... Happy to see that PlayBook is not forgotten. Even if it feels like BlackBerry has completely abandoned it at times. (COUGH COUGH) PB_BB10

I noticed the missions were unfortunately easier this time around, even on the hardest setting.
MC3 was more difficult and much more enjoyable.

Modern Combat 5 looks amazing! Playing this was cool too. It's amazing the kind of games tablets offer now

Great to see games still coming to the PlayBook however what I really need is the full bridge functionality back. We switched our corporate phones over to the z10/BB10 platform and we all lost our bridge function to our corporate playbooks. Mr Heins, we were not notified if this. What was a fantastic work set has been lost. We have been very patient thus far, but it's getting time to return this function. I don't care about bb10 on the PlayBook. It works well enough for me. Just get the Bridge working. I don't care if it costs 5 bucks per playbook to upgrade the software. Perhaps that's what BlackBerry should do so they get the revenue to hire the people to write the software. Kevin Please Get this through to Mr. Heins. Thank You!

Where's my FULL BRIDGE Mr. Heins? Please return it!

Is there a gamepad that works for PlayBook and/or Z10 for this game or others?

P.S. I wish Modern Combat 4 can sync game progress between Z10 and PlayBook.

Can't get used to the controls on the z10. Too much going on and hard to see enemies with my fingers in the way. Wasted my money.
