Kevin, u really seem to be branching out and working for/with everyone. Covering your ass for if and when RIM goes under? The number one BlackBerry fanboy doesn't appear to be so confident he will have a job in the next few years. Smart move. I would protect my future income too. Looking forward to your touchpad review. I hope they pay u well for it ;-)

Troll..

It's ok.. just proves they didn't actually listen to the podcast since Kevin addresses a lot of what they said on there. Kevin was in before the troll and when you listen to it, the comment just looks rather silly. :)

Lol. Nice comment. I like the way you think.... you're just not up to speed on the way things are.

I founded CrackBerry.com, but it became part of the Smartphone Experts network of sites a couple years back. So we have our sibling sites AndroidCentral, TiPb.com, PreCentral.net, WPCentral.com. Each site has a main editor on it, and formerly Dieter Bohn ran PreCentral and also helped oversee each of the sites in the roll of Editor In Chief for the network.  Dieter left the company, so now in addition to running CrackBerry I've also stepped up into that role. Most of the work on the other sites is behind the scenes for me at this point, but it also means getting my hands dirty when the need arises on the front facing parts. So with PreCentral this week our editor Derek has been out for two weeks (annual training for the National Guard), so I stepped in a bit and helped out with a TouchPad unboxing and jumped on their podcast. Nothing to be that shocked about. BlackBerry is my first love and always will be, but I've always respected all the platforms and am knowledgable on them and have always called things as I see it. The branching out is just part of the duties of the increased responsibilities.

Mobile Nations was a new name I came up with, and we're using it for our cross-community brand. So we have each of our individual communities dedicated to a platform, but in addition Mobile Nations is where we'll get together and cover some of the stuff that we don't cover on the individual sites. Think of it as the United Nations of Mobile. We're sort of slow rolling out this initiative, so I can see where your confusion would come in on your end. This message will clear up over the weeks and months ahead.  For now we're using it as really a site to put all our individual podcasts together in one place, and also have started this biweekly podcast that brings together the editors from each of our sites (much like our round robin podcasts we've done in the past).

So yeah.. nice comment, but you just don't have the full story. No less love for BB from me at all, and no time for sleep either. So much to do!

Stoked for going to Waterloo next week though! Can't believe I've waited this long to go to the birthplace of BlackBerry!

I'm not sure you even need to respond to scroat. He's the biggest/worst troll on the web. His bs is everywhere.

I see.. Did not know all of that. Question tho. U mention RIM is bigger than ever. U state that when u started crackberry that quarter saw 1.3 million berrys shipped and this latest quarter they shipped 13 million. I find those number deceiving tho. I have tried to find out which models of phones have sold and how many but that's nearly impossible. But the numbers to profit would suggest that they are the low to mid range berrys. Apples quarter 18 million phones 3 billion profit. RIM 13 million phones 750? Million profit and they did not break down how much of that 700+ million was actually from handsets and not services. I feel that u r painting a prettier picture to everyone than is actually the case. To me what good is x millions of handsets shipped when they are making barely any money on them. Nokia ships 400 million phones a year but mostly low margin handsets. Just my 2 cents.

What do you do for a living that allows you to think 750,000,000 in 1 quarter is "barely any money".

P.S. RIM is a publicly traded company so why don't you do a little leg work yourself and get your answers from their press releases instead of asking us for answers, all the info is there.

P.S.S The only thing those numbers from Apple tell me is that they're still selling overpriced products.

I've done my research. And I think plenty on wall street and bay street have also. They have the same conclusion as I do. Stock price seems to say so. Clearly they don't think 750 million and a piss poor yearly outlook is very good either. Especially when RIM has spent 1.7 billion last year on R+D and have a half assed tablet and last years technology for their up coming delayed again phones to show for it. I think the iPhone is the same price as the torch so if apple is over priced I'd hate to hear what u have to say about the torch. I also don't recall asking u a god damn thing.

What's worst than a troll is an Apple Troll? Is an Apple Troll on a Blackberry fan site.

Maybe you shouldn't "think plenty on wall street", and you should "think plenty" on your own needs. Letting stock price determine what products you buy is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. I'm not going to address the numbers you're spouting off because it seems you're just pulling them out of thin air. And if you don't want responses to your posts then don't post on a "god damn" public message board idiot.

Finally, if anything, you should be pulling for RIM because in the unlikely event that your beloved portable gaming device kills all competition you'll see a very different Apple. All the sheep customers will be regularly skinned instead of just sheared.

lol ..... I will see you at the meeting. (Hopefully I get off of work in time.)

Well stated, Kevin. See? This is why you're best suited as our fearless leader. You were diplomatic with your reply, and the rest of CrackBerry Nation would have used the guillotine.

Keep doing what you're doing.

If you look at the very top of the CrackBerry page you will see that this site is only one of several that fall under the Smartphone Experts umbrella. THAT'S who Kevin works for....

I havt listened yet. But from the agenda it seems to be missing. so...

I wish you would have talked about VZW's new data pricing structure and kindled some sort of public outcry.

i have not problem with paying for data or tiered pricing. But I really wish there were an affordable option. I'd love to get my wife a BB. But her likely very small data usage just doesn't justify $30/month for me right now. Why no $15 option for BB or other smartphones? I really was hoping that would have been included when the tiered pricing rumors first started.

But the complete ripoff of the 2GB for $30/month without any hope for corporate discounts is a major deterent for me and likely others to get non-power users to commit to the price and I think the new $30 plan and frustratins that go along with it is clouding the gaping hole what could otherwise be a happy smartphone market at $15/month.

Maybe I should have started a thread about this. Maybe I still will.

Best podcast yet!

Great podcast for sure. I always enjoy hearing you guys toss it all around. But, when these new Berry's come out, needs to be an awesome podcast with a lot of cool info and first impressions, all the good and bad. I want to hear it all. Keep on rocking and here's to hoping RIM makes a huge comeback for all the ones that say they are doomed. :)

I haven't been on this site in a while. I moved on to Android but I came from a Blackberry and I actually find it stupid that you guys try to bash on Kevin when he actually made this site to what it is today now. A real Crackberry Community, I would always come to this site to check on information on my phone and you all need to stop being ignorant and respect the man for all the work he has done to this site.
