For anyone out there, including myself, who utilizes Meetup.com to holding meetings and events with those who share similar interests in various cities around the world, a native application has made it's way into BlackBerry World today. From the developer that brought you MAKE, Meetup for BlackBerry 10, while not affiliated with the company and thereby unofficial, offers users an array of feature to quickly access their accounts. These include accessing their profile, scheduling or joining meetings, viewing the current schedule of existing groups, and even discovering the groups in the area.

Features include

  • Explore suggested Meetups tailored to your interests.
  • See what's happening nearby.
  • Discover new interests in categories like Outdoors, Parents, Photography, and more.
  • Browse, join, and RSVP for Meetups straight from the palm of your hand.
  • Get directions, check out who's coming, add comments, and upload photos with the tap of a finger.

The application itself is pretty straightforward and easy to use. We'll be following up with a more in-depth review soon so be sure to stay tuned! Meetup is free to download for all BlackBerry 10 devices.

You can always start your own Meetup for the town. I know there are a few like that. True, Meetup is best when there are a lot of people, but sometimes smaller places are more active.

If it's the developer of MAKE, then yes. Besides, they wouldn't be talking about this if it wasn't native.

For context, there's already another native app in BB World, but this new one by qbo has superior functionality, including the ability to view suggested Meetup groups. It appears more is on the way.

Got it. I just linked to their mobile website before (works well).

There are a few features still missing:
- Photo album doesn't work
- Some profile functions have "Coming Soon"
- Some bugs with the member list

Overall pretty good and a good start.

I didn’t even know there was already a meetup app for BB10. Now there's two. I can delete the android app I got courtesy of Snap. Guess, I'll go with the one from this article for now.

Hard to tell with the same name for both :D. But yeah getting away from an Android port is sweet.

I really am clueless when it comes to social media. I don't even use facebook or twitter so I know I don't need this but good to see a native BlackBerry10 app.

No More Music!!!!! No More Videos!!!

I've used your app for quite some time now. It is good for sure, and I encourage you to keep improving when you can! Maybe it's telling that there are now 2 meetup.com apps, since it is used by the young professional to meet new people.

So native, but not from the actual service owner. I'd rather risk a port via SNAP than have no clue what is happening with my data.

With the port from snap, do you know what's happening with your data?

..That's what I thought

Meetup has stated that they won't make a BB10 app, which is why I created "Meetup for BlackBerry 10" last year.

I only store data locally on the user's device. My app only ask for access to share events, map and ads/update to the calendar.

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone! I really had fun while developing this app on my spare time. Huge props to Meetup.com for providing us such awesome platform to meet new people!

I'm receiving bug reports and they'll be addressed/fixed in the next update so if you find something that isn't working as expected, please let me know!

Meanwhile, if you like the app, please support the app by leaving a positive review on the BlackBerry World!

Thanks for also making another Native Meetup app. Meetup has a great API. I initially created a Meetup search app for the PlayBook( to get a pre-release PlayBook) , but Meetup made some changes that broke the app and at the time I couldn't get around to fixing it, then the PlayBook lost support.

I released "Meetup for BlackBerry 10" last year. And have made some updates since that release, my oldest review is from late January after I made a major update. I am sure you know how hard it is to find a good name for an app, so you probably can understand my desire for you to change the name of yours.

It only takes a few seconds to search app names. I hope the developer is on the up-and-up, but I do worry the name duplication was intentional...

My apologies, I have changed the name of the app to "Meetup Client". Please allow several hours to propagate through BlackBerry World.

Glad to hear you've changed the name; would have gotten confusing to the average user as they may have thought it was the same app - there always needs to be a clear distinction between two apps with the name probably being the main differentiation point :)

One of the reasons I love developers on CB so much, is they genuinely seem to care app looks great by the way (playing with it now).
