Sweet. This means that I can simply throw a 16 GB or 32 GB MicroSD card into my 8900 and ditch my iPod. The only reason I was still carrying my iPod is because 80% of my library was bought on iTunes and has DRM, so the BlackBerry Media Sync program wouldn't copy them!

"Apple offered the record labels that flexibility on pricing as it got them to agree to sell all songs free of "digital rights management" (DRM) technology that limits people's ability to copy songs or move them to multiple computers. By the end of this quarter, Apple said, all 10 million songs in its library will be available without DRM."

Too much music here to give up the iPods, but at least now I'll be able to move the iTunes songs I want to my phone. What I'm wondering is if this is retroactive, I mean will iTunes open up music already purchased?

My only question also...

What a scam it would be if it's not retroactive.....I bet it's not. Steve would love to get us to repurchase our whole song library in free DRM format.

Turns out you dont have to repurchase the song, but there is a $.30 upgrade fee per song to iTunes plus...

Read it here... http://www.apple.com/itunes/whatsnew/

You can upgrade the library at 30 cents each but you cannot select individual songs a la carte. You have to either upgrade the entire library or buy each one individually all over again so I guess it depends on your needs.

I only had 130 itunes songs but i prob only would ever want to listen to about 30 of them. But the apple gods forced me to upgrade the whole thing for $40 anyway but now I am free from the shackles!

This is great for blackberry owners. transferring my playlists over to my 9000 as i write

Does it scan your library first to see how many you would need to do, and give you the option or not to do it? Or is it just a blind yes or no purchase without knowing the cost?

Over on the right side under quick links there is a link that says "upgrade my library" and when you click it pulls up a screen that scans your library and lists all the upgradable songs from your library and totals the cost for you up at the top next to a big BUY button.

but its not instant, after you buy, you have to wait a while to get an email from Apple and then you can download the new tracks.

There is also a whole new section called iTunes Plus that has the new higher quality, DRM free music that i sill havent quite figures out yet.

I hate apple products, their smugness, and overpriced under featured iphone especially. I can't wait until Steve Jobbs is not their guy anymore so I can watch them circle the drain slowly. (but don't want steve to die or be sick or anything)

And I don't think an app store is so 'revolutionary' - its proprietary and has just about reached its limit if you ask me. The REAL app store will be the android open source platform.

Forgive my ignorance, but can movies purchased on iTunes also be played on a blackberry? or is the formatting different?
