OS 7.1.0.649 has leaked for a whole slew of devces including the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930, Bold 9790, Curve 9360, Torch 9850 and P'9981. This is an unofficial (leaked) OS, so while it's mostly safe to install, remember to use caution when updating your device. If you need help along the way, you can head into our help forums or check out some of our BlackBerry 101 articles including How to Install or Upgrade to a new OS or How to Upgrade Your BlackBerry OS Using App Loader. If you do install this OS, hit up the forums thread below for findings, fixes and more discussion.
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

Hot! Thanks!
mnhockeycoach99 Aug 20, 2012 at 10:04 am
I hope this update resolves the mic issues with AT&T.
OniPod Aug 20, 2012 at 11:47 am
It does not. Well, it doesn't for some.
mnhockeycoach99 Aug 20, 2012 at 11:51 am
I wonder what the true issue is, if RIM knows about it, and when it will be fixed? I would like to upgrade to a newer version than .342 but that seems to be the only OS version that I haven't had mic issues with. Anyone else know of a newer OS version for the 9900 on AT&T that doesn't have mic (or any other) issues?
ddlax22 Aug 20, 2012 at 2:30 pm
I literally just upgraded to .402 from 342 and I thought my 9900 was finally breaking after taking a few swims and the mic not working...does any of yours seem to work after you hit it a few times while on a phone call?
CeeXTwo Aug 20, 2012 at 10:13 am
The 9900 version is giving me an error where I try to run it. Anyone else?
endevour Aug 20, 2012 at 10:37 am
redownload, the files have been re-uploaded... so your download probably disconnected...
claykin Aug 20, 2012 at 10:40 am
Downloaded and installed OK for the 9900. Installing on phone now.
RFCanada Aug 20, 2012 at 10:50 am
My Bold 9900 on MTS has been running 7.1.0.921 for the last 4 month's.
Berry_Intelligence Aug 20, 2012 at 11:27 am
That 921 is your package version not your applications version. In other words 921 package is really the .267 applications update. This .649 is a higher version than you .267.
mikepraba Aug 20, 2012 at 10:53 am
The folks downloaded should share the new features with us. Unless anything major I will wait for the career release.
Connor83 Aug 20, 2012 at 11:16 am
Well I'm running a 9900 on at&t so don't think I'll ever get an update
esaladop Aug 20, 2012 at 11:13 am
hello, i have a Bold 9900 and i press the update button 8 hours ago, and it still making security copies, and its only on 10%. Somebody please help me with this
jhrain Aug 20, 2012 at 11:33 am
As always, I wish there was a change log available.
OniPod Aug 20, 2012 at 11:48 am
They never release OS build change logs for BB handsets...LoL
I wish they would as well.
thatplaybookguy Aug 20, 2012 at 11:47 am

mnhockeycoach99 Aug 20, 2012 at 11:48 am

thatplaybookguy Aug 20, 2012 at 11:51 am
is your playbook now magically a phone?
mnhockeycoach99 Aug 20, 2012 at 12:29 pm
Ummm... I thought you were being a smartazz to the noobs that come out and ask if they can upload 7.1 to their old BB handsets.
thatplaybookguy Aug 20, 2012 at 11:57 am
nope sadface
danny-da-silva Aug 20, 2012 at 11:54 am
pls whats d latest os on 9900?
Rootbrian Aug 21, 2012 at 4:36 pm
I didn't understand what you said, only latest os. Hmm, this one right here? :S
jly.public Aug 20, 2012 at 11:56 am
Can someone explain to me why RIM keeps releasing unofficial updates to the public? Shouldn't their engineers thoroughly test and re-test the update before releasing it to the carriers for OTA updates?
I find it hilarious to see these "leaked" updates every now and then. Lol
newcollector Aug 20, 2012 at 12:33 pm
You misunderstand the terminology of "Leaked" and "Official" and in the process impugn the intergrity and veracity of the engineers at RIM. ;)
There is no difference between a "leak" and an "official" OS update as far as build stability is concerned. The only difference is that a carrier has decided to release to their subscribers an OS update that heretofore had been called a "leak". It's amazing and nearly miraculous, but in a flash, in an instant, a "leak" is transformed into an "official" update. :D
jly.public Aug 20, 2012 at 1:00 pm
I supposed I'm confused as to how these updates are delivered. So, it's the carriers that "leak" these updates?
newcollector Aug 20, 2012 at 1:17 pm
No, RIM builds an update. It is made available to all carriers. Carriers then decide if they want to accept an update for their subscribers. If they do, they release the update they have approved (i.e. Official) to their subscribers. This is the one you can do an Over The Air update from your phone.
How do leaks (not carrier approved, yet) on CrackBerry and other sites? I do not know, but I suspect that there is an update fairy the drops them off. :D Either that or someone knows where to look for RIM OS updates and then posts a download site for others to revel in.
danjv1 Aug 20, 2012 at 12:10 pm
Hey Adam:
When you say most phones, you have to include a list of which phones are most...
Get back to work..!
Thank you.
Berries forever!!!!!
Adam Zeis Aug 20, 2012 at 12:12 pm
Did you not read the first line of the post ?
danjv1 Aug 21, 2012 at 2:55 pm
Yes! Did you? Including means that's not the entire list...
It's not that I'm upset is just that not all of us can afford to switch every month to a new BB, hence I can get os6, let alone os7, so when you said os7, I jumped but then no list...
and also you misspelled devices... thanks
dan

Has anyone updated yet? Please share the change log?
newcollector Aug 20, 2012 at 12:54 pm
There is no "change log". At the present I see no major differences, but I have not really worked through the phone. On my 9810 I had to do the 'ALT BBDA' thing to get BlackBerry Device Analyzer to show up. That is nothing new, but just a reminder to people.
Kamika007z Aug 20, 2012 at 5:02 pm
The tinny music after pausing an mp3 song for more than 3 seconds is still there...
You know... if they were forced to have a change log, then it might just help the developers by allowing to use it as a starting and ending point as to what has been fixed and what still needs to be addressed.... c'mon RIM! :)
lowest Aug 20, 2012 at 12:49 pm
BBM ver 6.2.0.50 :)
rkopsie Aug 20, 2012 at 5:14 pm
Already came with the 7.1.0.580 .... So its not new
mikepraba Aug 20, 2012 at 12:51 pm
it is possible to have the battery life improved!
dvc Aug 20, 2012 at 1:14 pm
Wifi calling works with 9860!!! Finally :)
Kamika007z Aug 20, 2012 at 5:03 pm
Trying to load it led me to a 507 error, which I then had to recover from... luckily it made a .BBB backup, which I was able to convert to IPD via magicberry 3.5 (thought it took a few time for MB to actually load properly - you have to let it "load" and it may take a few minutes to an hour depending on how big the BBB file is), and now its up and running! Time to see if there are media player improvements! Thanks again for posting this Team CB!
apataayodele Aug 20, 2012 at 2:14 pm
What's major with this update?
decypher44 Aug 20, 2012 at 2:24 pm
Ugh. Error 507 using DM.
jhrain Aug 20, 2012 at 2:35 pm
Well, on my 9900 and NO ONE CAN HEAR ME. So, this bug isn't fixed Any thoughts on fixing before I revert to previous version?
mnhockeycoach99 Aug 20, 2012 at 4:32 pm
AT&T user - check
Mic issue - check
Issue still not fixed - check
Kamika007z Aug 20, 2012 at 5:04 pm
lol... ahem.. sorry. :/
decypher44 Aug 20, 2012 at 2:36 pm
Crap. Now that it reloaded the OS, after 507 error, most of the default icons are now the icon for the internet browser. I know this isn't an official release, but damn! Seems like every other update gives me problems. Official or not!
djdonnyk Aug 20, 2012 at 3:06 pm
Not sure if I'm the only one out here but I plugged my 9850 in last week and update to 7.1.0.1737, has anyone else found this to be true?
Berry_Intelligence Aug 20, 2012 at 4:02 pm
1737 is your package version not your applications version...
Searzy Aug 20, 2012 at 4:35 pm
It took FREAKING long to download!!
gyubok Aug 20, 2012 at 5:40 pm
interesting. with this new version, in the app switching screen, it actually states: "Switch Applications"
the only shitty part about this update is that there is no east asian input support
Matt J Aug 20, 2012 at 9:32 pm
Just installed. Snappier performance and noticeably better battery life.
cvdburgh Aug 21, 2012 at 1:55 am
Somebody mentioned wifi calling included; what IS wifi calling, actually? A VOIP-like solution?
arhcangel Aug 27, 2012 at 3:57 pm
WiFi calling is part of AWS (Advanced Wireless Services)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Wireless_Services
but T-Mobile is the only one out of the four major US carriers that offer it.

I'm on 9900 noticed that my Auto Texts are all gone and I cannot add anything back.
spike12 Aug 22, 2012 at 4:10 am
Someone else also reported this on another site, also with a 9900. Can anyone confirm if this is happening to all hardware?
danp2000 Aug 21, 2012 at 6:59 am
For those that are having issues are you wiping your phone first? From my experience this is a necessary step.
bldshd Aug 21, 2012 at 8:58 pm
Any improvements? I'm using a 9930 but who ever already installed this is there any noticeable improvements? Anything? I just downloaded the 7.1.xx.580 from Verizon/Sprint.. Anybodys opinion worth updating?
mr-a.a.g Aug 24, 2012 at 11:03 am
In my opinion guys i think the battery is improved because my battery was on 1 line with i slept it usually switches off but when i woke up after 8 hours it was still the same with 1 line and also in addition the light indicator wasnt blinking with yellow :) enjoy guys
apataayodele Aug 26, 2012 at 1:36 pm
I really don't see any noticeable differences between this and and the 7.1.0.569 I had on my BB 9360.
