OS 7.1.0.402 has leaked for the BlackBerry Torch 9860. This is an unofficial (leaked) OS, so while it's mostly safe to install, remember to use caution when updating your device. If you need help along the way, you can head into our help forums or check out some of our BlackBerry 101 articles including How to Install or Upgrade to a new OS or How to Upgrade Your BlackBerry OS Using App Loader. If you do install this OS, hit up the forums thread below for findings, fixes and more discussion.
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

1->download and install the exe
2-> search for vendor.xml files, you will find one under C:\Users\*name*\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
and also under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
delete both xml files.
3-> After this, you will be able to see that there is an update in your blackberry desktop manager for your blackberry.
4-> run the update (donot forget to back up your data and then do the upgrade)
Do let me know if this does not work.

This leak does not work for phones on AT&T. I installed it and my mic did not work on phone calls and the phone constantly froze up. Had to revert back to .342.

I'm confirming this with 100% accuracy.

Just a heads up, I used an extended battery on my 9860 and on this leaked, the extended battery doesn't work now. Also I have it on AT&T and it works great. That's my only downside with the extended battery.

Hey folks, so I'm new to the whole OS installing thing... I have a Torch 9860 with Rogers and it's taking them FOREVER to release OS 7.1 ... in the meantime, my phone is constantly freezing, dropping calls, and keeps telling me its memory is full. Also, Blackberry Desktop manager refuses to work with it. (I've uninstalled and reinstalled, tried on my Mac and a friend's PC.. in all fairness, my Mac was compatible with my old Bold 9700).
If I can't use Desktop Manager, how do I install the OS? Do I have to have my phone unlocked to install an OS meant for another provider?
Thanks!
