OS 7.1.0.340 has leaked for the BlackBerry Bold 9930. This is an unofficial (leaked) OS, so while it's mostly safe to install, remember to use caution when updating your device. If you need help along the way, you can head into our help forums or check out some of our BlackBerry 101 articles including How to Install or Upgrade to a new OS or How to Upgrade Your BlackBerry OS Using App Loader. If you do install this OS, hit up the forums thread below for findings, fixes and more discussion.
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

Is this update also have those issues of loading like the Bold 9900 leak? I mean the loader files missing issue?
Javin247 Mar 27, 2012 at 12:03 pm
Does the WiFi hotspot work on this update?
dustanh Mar 27, 2012 at 12:16 pm
It should... why wouldn't it?
Javin247 Mar 27, 2012 at 12:24 pm
well after updating the phone to 7.1.0.267. everything worked fine. tried the wife hotspot first time after a couple hours, it was working outstandingly well, until i rebooted my phone where it disappeared from the manage connections. My carrier is LIME( Cable & Wireless) my device is the Bold 9900.

dustanh Mar 27, 2012 at 12:43 pm
You have .342 or .267? Hotspot worked just fine on .267 for me.
Javin247 Mar 27, 2012 at 1:46 pm
.267
dustanh Mar 27, 2012 at 2:07 pm
Well so far my hotspot works fine on this... I doubt .340 will be released for you becuase .342 is already leaked for you.

ok so I did that, thank you. My Desktop manager does not recognize the update. What do I do from here?
dustanh Mar 27, 2012 at 1:08 pm
There shouldn't be a vendor file... but try this:
1. Uninstall any previous OS you may have installed.
2. Install the OS to your PC.
3. If you have a Windows PC, change your folders option to show hidden files/folders
4. Then go to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete the vendor file.
5. IF you happen to have Windows 64 bit, go here as well: C:\Users\*your user name*\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML and elete that vendor file as well.
*You need to delete the vendor file(s) whenever you are using an OS that is not from your carrier. A simple search of your c: drive should pull these 2 vendors up as well, but you must have enabled show hidden files/folders.
6. Open up Desktop Manager and check to see if there is an updated OS and install.
or
7. Open up Loader in your PC: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
I would highly recommend uninstalling SocialFeeds prior to this. You can re-install it during the installation process.

whew! I just had a nose bleed. Is there a way where you can just " click " and then " done " and "Reboot." hehe thanks
ZMc1834 Mar 27, 2012 at 1:09 pm
You need to delete the vendor file located here:
C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\ResearchInMotion\Apploader
and possibly one located here
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

I'm sorry but I can't find that link. Could you just write it again as an exact link so I can copy it? much appreciated..
dustanh Mar 27, 2012 at 2:23 pm
Go to the forums, go to leaked OS, and then 9930 .340 leak.
keyhole Mar 27, 2012 at 2:27 pm
Thanks, I've found it.

finally we get something new xD
NinjaRAT Mar 27, 2012 at 12:36 pm
I hope this resolves the memory leak I seem to be experiencing with 7.1.0.267, though battery life seemed improved.
all3n7 Mar 27, 2012 at 3:32 pm
Im not into this upadting OS, the steps are a bit difficult to follow, I would just wait a little when it is really official.. thanks for letting us know though.
bajbajbaj1 Mar 27, 2012 at 4:08 pm
I agree. I'm a computer novice (at best) so installing a "leaked" OS seems like there is waaayyyy too much of a screw-up factor for me to be confident downloading it. :-(

dustanh Mar 27, 2012 at 4:30 pm
It's not that hard... see my post above? Simple instructions.
mingus007 Mar 27, 2012 at 8:39 pm
It's like sex...ehrm...riding a bike! Do it once, and it loses its intimdation after that. You'll be skipping around OS's in no time flat. (Note: That is NOT a metaphor for something else.)
That said, knowing when to NOT get involved w/something is just as useful in this case. If the current one does it for ya, stay put. If there's a compelling reason to upgrade, do so (instructions at CB.com are spot on, and the help is great).
