Hey BlackBerry Bold 9700 users, let's not let the Torch owners have all the fun! OS 6.0.0.499 has leaked for your device, so if you're into that sort of thing go ahead and give it a go. As always, back up your device data first please. We'd hate to see you lose anything. Let us know what you see that is new and improved, and hop on over to the forums to discuss it further!
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

Gone back to .461 as was getting random dropouts of BIS and battery went to crap.
.461 seems best at moment (for me).
josh05 Mar 12, 2011 at 10:36 pm

BBM and Text Message cursor issue fixed! & memory leak seems to be gone! Wooo
nik316 Mar 11, 2011 at 12:07 am
cursor issue fixed, memory leak is not fixed, going to the engadget 'full' site still gives the "page too large to load" error
edwardagyeman Mar 11, 2011 at 1:14 am
y wud u wanna go to full site. it's optimized for a mobile phone.
MattDub22 Mar 11, 2011 at 1:31 am
That doesnt mean there is a memory LEAK, just that your phone doesn't have all the memory that other OS6 devices have and therefore can't perform the same functions. Understand java and how it works and you'll see there is no 'leak' to speak of.
Prettyboyant Mar 11, 2011 at 12:16 am
damn still memory leak on the browser. at least they fixed the cursor issue is fixied on the bbm and text message>
waydavis Mar 11, 2011 at 12:17 am

BBM works great...so far. noticeable lag in previous builds is absent but i will give it more time to see if i notice any memory leaks. @ambitiousceo

naderalmaleh Mar 11, 2011 at 10:18 am
Downloading... Hope this will be a better leak. Can't update though because I am in a country that doesn't support BIS and there's noway to restore the wifi service books unless I reregister the device. I'll have to wait for another week or so for the update :(
xs11e Mar 11, 2011 at 1:22 pm
You can save the service books and re-install them on the new OS, search the forums for instuctions.
p_the_capo Mar 11, 2011 at 12:17 pm
So far.

I downloaded and installed this last night on my ATT 9700 . I can't comment on battery life as of yet because I had it charging overnight and it is still about normal now as it was previously on an official 44whatever release. SO, yay, the cursor issues are fixed.... But the forsaken MEMORY LEAK is still there. I went from 33.3MB (which it was at after a post install reboot. and yeah, i have a lot of crap on my phone, ha) and I am now at 10.5MB without any reboots since or installs/downloads. Seems to leak at the same rate for me. ... I don't notice anything else. Get this update if you want your cursors back!
smd3c7 Mar 11, 2011 at 1:51 pm
Awesome, thanks for the update
sirbaro Mar 13, 2011 at 11:42 am
My friend, there is no such thing as memory leak on the BB with those leaked versions. The reason why you memory dropped from 33.. to 10.. is because your BB probably finished indexing your phone. and if you said that you have lots of stuff on it thats probably why your memory went down by much.
the "leak" is caused by indexing the phone for universal search.
hedgecore44 Mar 15, 2011 at 6:31 pm
That sucks. Thanks for the info. So every time I reboot my phone and my phone goes from 33MB down to the point where it gets laggy (~5MB, ~15hrs later) it's not a memory leak, it's completely normal? This indexing symptom happens to people with a Torch or 9780 as well? Damn indexing...
jemz Mar 11, 2011 at 6:52 pm
I downloaded and installed it on the computer... i usually never have a problem with this but now BlackBerry Desktop Softare doesn't recognize the fact that there is a newer OS installed and there's no "update OS" that pops up automatically like before... HELP!
punisher85 Mar 12, 2011 at 11:32 am
I had the same problem .first make a back-up from your device, then 3rd application backup if you can, then go to apploader, delete all. then open apploader again, you will see operating system and lang pack and stuf. now you can update.
PittsburghSteelers-Fan Mar 11, 2011 at 7:00 pm

XWolf Mar 12, 2011 at 7:47 am
Suggestion 1:
Use the edit function and redo your post. To say it is hard to figure out what you are asking/ranting would be an understatement.
Suggestion 2:
For my 9700 I used BBSAK to wipe my device fully, AFTER doing an advanced backup with DM5. I then installed 6.0.0.461 to the pc, used Shrink A OS to reduce it a little (languages) and then installed from SAO. Tried .499 but prefer .461 as better battery life and more stable BIS (for me anyway).
Suggestion 3:
Take out your microSD and put it into an adaptor straight into pc - that's what I do to put media on.
mrtouchedme Mar 12, 2011 at 8:08 am
Wow, that was the biggest random pile of crap I've ever attempted to read....like the other person said, re-type it and edit it, spell check, leave out the unnecessary weird characters, then post it so some of the people here can actually read it without getting a headache and possibly help you with your problems
punisher85 Mar 12, 2011 at 1:42 pm
lol :)

" (now hav 9780, but still got my 9700 (kept lagging w/ lotta memory + java lang error ... Should ί "wipe" the 9700 (after getn files etc.) & try to start fresh w/ this version? "
yes.
josh05 Mar 12, 2011 at 10:34 pm
The cursor on the facebook app disappears like it did in earlier versions.
machiavellyy Mar 13, 2011 at 2:30 pm
I downloaded the latest leak yesterday and so far so good. I'm just cruising.
mjneiva Mar 14, 2011 at 8:21 am
BBM and WhatsApp messages cannot be integrated in the general Messages like before. I cannot find these two applications under Options - Inbox management like before.
s5sahil Mar 14, 2011 at 11:04 pm
WTF, this leak has a same problem what 6.0.0.424 had? You get lost with the cursor in the facebook and which is most used app on my device along with twitter. I had 6.0.0.461 before and never faced issues like cursor losing with bbm as I had BBM 6.0.0.30 and same issue was resovled in bbm6 and nor with the messages cursor also.
So now I have installed it (9700/6.0.0.499), but can't find any such new developments, browser has been as good as it was in .461 and haan I have got more memory space now (without shrinking or removing any app).
So all n all just an upgrade with scroller issue with facebook and now I have got 2bbm's, one which comes with OS and other one I already had (bbm6). NOT THAT IMPRESSED.
joeberrymomma Mar 19, 2011 at 1:40 pm
The cursor issue is back. Not just with FB. Try editing a contact. Cursor gets lost ...holding shift key helps, but annoying.
On the brighter side...had lots of GPS issues with .461.
.499 seems to lock in a signal quickly.
One other weired thing with the browser.... Sometimes Form field boxes are shrunk in length...like Google home page...instead of a rectangular box for search it is a small square.
Browser bookmark issue seems fixed. When trying to read bookmarks the second line was cut off and words were jammed together making it unreadable.
Battery drain may be a bit more aggressive on this release.
Still have not fixed geotagging in pictures or send location in text messages.
All else the same. Browser will crash with big web pages...memory leak with third party apps, etc.
jakewu Mar 20, 2011 at 10:59 am
Is the flash problem fixed?
ON .448 -> Flash doesn't work after going out of the camera application after the first time.
On .461 -> Flash doesn't work unexpectedly after a while.
* The function comes back after hard reset. which is the infamous battery pull
or Hold alt + right shift + del.
PredatorGanaz Mar 26, 2011 at 8:48 am
Strongly Advice .499 is a definite a no go . No Go and NO GO. Battery Drain !!!!!! Memory Leaked more than 40% of the total RAM.
AVOID AT ALL COST>
jakewu Mar 28, 2011 at 9:22 pm
I test the latest 3 firmware so far. But they all have this flash problem.
After a while the flash wouldn't turn on until a reset or battery pull.
It is so annoying. When u want to take a picture u have to wait for reboot because of the reset.
NEED HELP SERIOUSLY..
