OS5 leaks are boring, bring on the OS6 leaks!

Posted by JuslisenLX Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

T-Mobile has been doing good at OS releases, hopefully we'll get this one. I'm afraid to try it since I've been having so many problems with my phone.

Saved the 8 minute download to my PC but haven't installed it yet. Very happy with .743 right now and was really waiting for OS6 on a 9800 when/if it ever comes to T-Mo.

Need to hear some feedback before I go through the hassle.
I hate re-registering all of my paid apps.

They should just drop OS6 already, hopefully the 9700 supports it, i don't want to have to buy a whole new phone just to have OS6.

Ill wait for more comments on this leak im pretty happy with the official right now

Posted by neoflasher Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

Will try this out and post any findings.. Like many of you I have been wanting a 6.0 leak but now I think it won't be available for 9700 being that it would only be for device with 512 mb of ram. I hope I am wrong about this but this is what it seems like.

Unless you like multiple new windows opened don't use L4C's link "http://www.zidd*. It will open a bunch of window and hangs your system up.

just upgraded now,no option to wirelss update in advanced options, did not have to re-register paid for games, had to re-download blackberry apps even though it said ive already got this version(could not find where)everything seems a little bit faster and a little bit smoother when navigating through options, this is all observed in first 10 mins.of upgrade.to early to tell if battery life is improved, but i thought 743 was the worst yet for battery life, will try browser speed when out and about tomorrow.its 01.20 in the morning here and im going to bed now, just had to do this before i went lol.hope this helps people even if only in a small way.more observations tomorrow.goodnight...

Do you install it from the desktop manager???

Posted by dromero Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

Having trouble updating phone after downloading app.
How do you install the app to the device? I do have the latest BB DM 5.0 installed on the laptop.
I know some one can help me out there...I need this update!

Posted by cynyoou Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

it took my netbook 30minutes to dl, then it takes forever to update my software and reboot. My opinion its not worth it.I did do it on dm 5.0

unplug blackberry first then run the upgrade, close dm, open dm,then plug ur blackberry

Posted by pastorz Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

Download the file to your desktop or favorite download location. It is an executable. Double click it and it will install on your computer. When complete, it should prompt you to open BB Desktop Manager. Plug your BB into your computer, and the rest should happen pretty much automatically.

Have you tried Visual Voice Mail? I know there were issues in some of the later releases. Not sure if that still exists in this version. Thanks.

Posted by maccauk Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

forgot to mention gained about 6 mb more memory and boot time is 1 min 40 secs so improvements there as well.

the only diff i noticed is if you go to mobile network in settings you have a connection prefrence, thats about it.

Posted by luikid16 Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

It fixed some bugs on the SMS for me but other than that everything looks fine.

Posted by dacrannis Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

Seems to be pretty stable, smooth and fast. Browser is quick and boot time is good. For those having problems loading, the best way is to use shrink-a-os. Shrink the os will give you more memory for apps and date. I've got 117mb after all my apps are installed. Then run loader after shrinking. If you are looking for simple way, then run loader from your blackberry file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader. Simply run the loader app and you should be good to go. Everything is working well for me so far on this version.

i installed it an hour ago looking for changes now. i cant seem to find anything for now. but like others have mentioned it seems that things are running faster and smoother. also a little more free memory is always good.
i guess ill check here for more findings, lets see wat the others find.

First thing I noticed was decent increase in device memory; but still approving and re-registering 3rd party apps so that might change.

Posted by pablotoofresh Sunday, Aug 01, 2010 662 days ago

In the previous version was anyone experience the radio would just randomly drop? Sometimes I would have to manage connections and re-tick the box to get cellular service.

Posted by seenred Monday, Aug 02, 2010 662 days ago

I had .743 on my BB, but was always noticing that 3G had dropped and it was running in EDGE. I would have to re-tick the box and it would find 3G again. I eventually down-graded back to .680 and my signal improved. So far- so good, on .862!

i think i might add a 512mb ram-stick on my 9700, so i can install 6.0..lol ;)

downloading it now.. lets see how it works and whats the difference. thanks anyway

I even tested it too.

Posted by SmakBerry Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

Really?? That's wicked. I was going to wait to download, but I'm downloading now because of that. Thx

Posted by chris7021 Monday, Aug 02, 2010 662 days ago

for now everything is looking great. is faster when restarting and the browser is awesome. thanks again.

Posted by infinus Monday, Aug 02, 2010 662 days ago

If there are no major differences in these OS leaks, then why they iterate it and release it as a leak.
I don’t find any reason to use these leaks.

Posted by HighwayBob Monday, Aug 02, 2010 662 days ago

I have a 9700 and upgraded once. While the process was pretty easy and smooth, I was annoyed at the fact that I lost my apps and had to download everything again. I don't understand why the downloaded apps should be affected/wiped out by an OS upgrade. This makes me not want to upgrade unless it fixes any bugs which affect me.

Posted by mad_eyes Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

well obviously it wasn't easy and smooth if you lost everything.

you messed up somewhere.

Posted by HighwayBob Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 660 days ago

I was under the impression that the behavior was normal. I know differently now.

I did the upgrade OTA and had no errors or any problems. Just that my apps were all gone at the end of the process.

Posted by millyblick Monday, Aug 02, 2010 662 days ago

This upgrade is pretty solid. I been through 3 upgrades since i bought my 9700 and this one is better suitable. The web browsing is faster, programs run smoother, more apps in blackberry app world, and more space about 7mb if correct. I haven't gone through everything yet neither. I recommend an upgrade.
Ohh and how to install:
1) Download from link on a PC(not a BB device)
2) Locate your downloaded file and double click it
3) It sould begin to install
4) Now go to My Computer/(C:)/Program Files/Common Files/RIM/AppLoader
5) Delete the file called Vendor.xml
6) Now double click Loader(make sure your BB is connected/USB to the Computer) and your complete.
7) Let it install, be patient and have fun. :)
*Reminder: Back Up your files before you update... always.
I learned the hard way and had to put everything back on my phone

OS leaks to install using desktop manager either. I downloaded Blackberry Swiss Army Knife (BBSAK)and it works like a charm! Simpler and faster IMO.

Posted by MattDub22 Monday, Aug 02, 2010 662 days ago

I love more memory and quicker load times. Can't wait to see what people mean by "better browser" but I will not DL till we get some wowords on battery life!!!! Its a big deal, wouldn't you agree?

Posted by lucianG Monday, Aug 02, 2010 662 days ago

alot quicker all around. the blackberry browser seems to be faster too! nothing on battery time yet...just mad i had to re download apps

Posted by ckeins Monday, Aug 02, 2010 662 days ago

I'm installing the .862 OS now with leaked BB Desktop Manager 6 Beta. Just downloaded .862, installed it, and BB Desktop Manager automatically found this OS update for my phone.

Worked great. Let's now see some OS improvements... ;-)

Posted by The Consigliere Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

I just updated mine when I got it (Friday) so unless this is reallly THAT big of an upgrade I think I'll hold off. Mine is running smooth enough for me & I really can't complain, I'll just keep checking back to see if there are any "breakthrough" comments that make me want to update.

Posted by shane8750 Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

Finally, UMA for rogers is active, no more messing around in the escreens after every device reboot, and connection restore. :) one of the best updates i have seen imo, boot time is much quicker, had 89.1 mb memory, now sitting at 102.3. Updating very recommended for rogers customers wanting to use talkspot (UMA)

Couldn't wait for another leak, that .714 has been dropping a lot of calls in good service areas and even on wifi. Smh

Posted by eddingo Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

After installing this update I realized that there is no option to open a link in opera mini any longer. Anyone having the same problem?

Posted by thehansson Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

Why is it that Blackberry doesn't have to supply a revision history with their releases? I want to know what they changed before I spend hours on an upgrade (-- so I'm still on .405 ;)

Posted by goldbera Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

I run the Hypaereon theme, and I've noticed that when I have my SMS inbox selected on the Home screen, the audio notification for SMS/MMS messages doesn't work. Apart from that, all is good.

Posted by AndresMor Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

I always have to look for a pc's friend in order to install the leak. on a Mac w/parallels never works ughhhhhhhh. You're gonna be fine.....

So, no comments so far

Posted by hokie123 Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

Just wanted to confirm that Visual Voice Mail works on this release (seemed to have been broken after 5.0.0.680 release).

Also nice to see further reduction in memory needed by this version of OS. Core and System Apps are 12 MB smaller. Always happy to get additional memory back!

Posted by maccauk Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

been running this nearly 24 hours now, using internet and making calls mostly,my battery display has gone down by 1 bar.so for me this upgrade along with everything else i posted last night, absolutley ROCKS.i cant belive how much better the battery life is compared to .743.When i first got my phone the battery was good .743 made it worse, this i can honestly say is brilliant.cant find any bad points yet but will post if i do.

Posted by honkingscrud Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

downloading through blackberry desktop software 6.0. I didn't have to delete vendor id. Seemed to work a lot faster than previous loads through BB desktop 5.0, whether thats the OS file or desktop file, I'm not sure.

Posted by dbalaciano Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

Does it have spanish and chinese languages and chinese input method?

Posted by chris7021 Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

well obviously you will lose them. just like when re-formatting a pc. all programs will be delete and just the main ones will be there when the process is donr. then the pain starts when re-installing the rest of the programs.

Posted by BoldMik Monday, Aug 02, 2010 661 days ago

The d/l and install seemed pretty quick, did a backup and wipe beforehand.

I have never seen or knew of UMA before, so at first I thought something went wrong and it was a lower type of connection, glad I was wrong! After looking into it I am still unsure if it is a true wifi connection but seems to be. I turned off my Mobile connection and was still able to make a call through router! :D From what I can gather using UMA you still use your cell's minutes but not get charged for long distance? International I think you are charged though. Besides possibly free long distance calls it is a better connection for in areas that you tend to drop calls (basements, ect) providing you are on a wifi connection.

I would like to know if the installed themes also are lost in the upgrade, somebody noticed it yet?

Posted by SmakBerry Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 661 days ago

No themes lost on mine

Posted by MattDub22 Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 660 days ago

None lost on mine. kept all apps actually, just had to set them up, did not have to redownload any apps.

Posted by rjake65 Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 661 days ago

First leaked OS I have loaded and the process was very smooth. Pandora, Poynt and FB all are back with no problems. Did I say the browser is fast... 5.0.0.862 is definitely worth it.

Posted by millyblick Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 661 days ago

Co-Sign... but do they know what Marsupials are??... lol, gotta watch animal planet for that one.

Posted by SmakBerry Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 661 days ago

Didn't notice a faster start up time. But wow, the browser is way faster. It's a step in the right direction.

Posted by diani Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 661 days ago

Finally I upgrade, no themes lost! but a really bad issue, 3g network not working, just GSM, when I try BBM or any other data app I get this message "you are not currently in an area that can handle data communication....", never had this problem before. I'm in Colombia and my device is 9700. Someone can help me please??? Thank you very much

Posted by wsaputro Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 661 days ago

with .862 I lost 90% of my battery power in 5 hr with my normal usage (.743 was around 12-14hr). But, when I restart it (at 10%), battery indicator increased to 40%. Don't know how accurate it is yet.

welcome to heaven with this amazing update :D

Posted by Hi Tek Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 661 days ago

I'v had this OS installed since yesterday-night. so a little over 24hrs. I used my Blackberry a lot today as I normally do. I have Twitter&Facebook running always and I use those apps often everyday. Sent about 5 emails and approx. 100-200txt msgs. And I did a lot of driving today so I had music going for a few hours. with my old (official) OS with Rogers Wireless - .743, my blackberry would be dead. But my Battery life by the end of today was 3 1/2 out of 5 bars. So i'm impressed with battery life on this release. I found downloading faster, Browser faster!!, and I tested the UMA feature. Phone calls work, but i'm not sure if the phone call would come up on your bill. Otherwise i'm satisfied with this release and I recommend it to everyone!!! especially if your not happy with your battery life !!

Posted by BoldMik Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 661 days ago

anyone else find that UMA only lasts for about 45 mins? After then you have to reboot phone to get it back.

Posted by belfastdispatcher Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 660 days ago

This OS is a big improvement, best I've seen so far. Battery is good and it seems to charge a lot faster even on the car charger. So far is very stable. Biggest improvement is the speed of opening apps, google maps opens in just 1-2 seconds, Bolt opens faster too. All apps in general open very fast now.

Posted by hybrid1976 Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 660 days ago

Haven't had any issues after about 4 battery pulls. All apps work well, radio is good, browser is quick. Haven't had a chance to try UMA calls yet but will try it this wEekend. Was previously running a hybrid OS that had 6.0 files in it.

Posted by MattDub22 Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 660 days ago

**Just speculation** (cause we need more fuel for fire..) Could this OS leak, being faster and 7MB smaller in size be RIM gearing up the 9700 for BB6? Possibly showing off its OS efficiencies??

Posted by XWolf Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 660 days ago

OK, the original link gets:

"This file is either removed due to copyright claim or is deleted by the uploader."

The turk one; not a member and do not understand the language enough to join.

Any other links?

Posted by mww0128 Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010 660 days ago

I've update my OS numerous times before using the Desktop Manager; however, this time the App Loader keeps "needing to update". When it finally does decide it is updated, it claims that the core applications in this OS update are older than what I already have (OS .593). Is this just a fluke, should I go ahead with the update?

Has anybody else noticed that the keypad lock screen is different now. It acts as if in mute mode. Is there any way to go back to the screen lock mode or is this just the way the new os is?

i dont like it...

Posted by stewie1774 Friday, Aug 06, 2010 657 days ago

Is there any difference between the two? I just upgraded to 770 and then saw the 862 leak. Just wondering if there are any differences because I have only had 770 for a few hours and wouldn't mind to upgrade to 862. Thanks.

The phones reception has taken a huge hit. I no longer get any reception in my office in West LA (used to have full bars 3G) and noticing more dropped calls on my commute home.
