*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS).  *

Leaked: OS for the BlackBerry Curve 8530

First question. I'm currently running the last beta OS that came out for 8530 and I'm realizing that I didn't bother to check if it had a carrier name in the file name or not. That being said I noticed that this file does have Verizon in the name. As a Sprint customer is that a bad thing for me or is it ok to install?

delete the vendor.xml file in the apploader. Once you do that, click on the loader icon in the same folder and fire it up!! BTW the way I have the same phone. Also if you really want to make your phone scream with fastness =) look into to loading up one of our hybrids thats made from the new 9650 and 91xx Java files. Let me know if you have questions....

You have piqued my interest. Two main questions for you. Are hybrids reliable? I have no experience with them and for some reason they give me pause. Is that pause unfounded? Second question, where are the files if I should be interested in trying it out...because truth be told, having some of the Bold and Pearl files does seem like an intriguing thing to add to make the phone faster.

Curve OSes leaking like they were run by BP and Haliburton, while 9550 locked down tighter than *****'s butt cheeks.

i totally agree. i think every other phone has gotten at least two updates since the last 9550 upgrade. ha what the hell

Well, I'm glad that us 8530 users have a new option. Upgrading to .654 fixed my voice note recorder, yanked my phonelock capabilities (don't care about that) and jacked up my ringtones. I can't actually assign them anymore. That last one is really the one that'll bother a BB nerd such as myself. How am I to know if one of the guys from work is calling if my phone's not willing to scream "DUCKTHRUSTER!!" So, here's to hoping that .722 will fix my new problems without the addition of new ones.

I put it on my 8530 about 2hrs ago. Seems a litter faster (maybe it is just me) and ringtones I set working great. So we will see. I have sprint so it was either download a leaked version or wait a year for them to put it out there.

I agree how do I know it won't brick my phone? I jus got this baby in feb! I'm on verizon!! Maybe I should jus wait!! Ill keep lookin to see how its working for everyone else! ;)

i just installed .722 and the first thing i noticed was that the OS had deleted a large portion of my apps (nothing major) but i was wondering if a backup i had made from the older OS would be detrimental to the new OS... does that make sense? and if i worded that correctly does anyone know an answer?

I just installed .722. I did my own backup before install. After install restored my own backup and worked just fine. Seems all good.

I don't know if its because of he app mix on my phone and any compatibility issues that might exist but a challenge I'm having which is severely traumatizing me is that neither google maps nor google mobile app can download I keep getting the error msg "ERROR: Invalid manifest or application descriptor.

The value of the "MIDLet-Description" attribute contains an invalid charicter"

any ideas anyone? PLEASE?!? :((((

does this mean that the 8900 and 9000 versions will be coming out shortly or.... im receiving a replacement device from rogers and want a new os to try on it

Just because there is a leak for one phone doesn't mean anything for another. There are already leaked os versions that are higher than the official ones for most of the phones, but no one knows which phone will have a leak let alone what order they will come in.

im well aware of this.... but in the past few months, whenever there has been a leaked OS for the 8900/9000, the 8520 has followed and vice versa, only reason im inquiring

Everything seemed to go fine. Everything also seems to be responding faster. I did have to reactivate some apps, but no problem with that.

had .722 for about 7 hours. loads up faster. Browser is super fast. More memory. No lag or hour glass. Chea!

After a whole day of testing the phone is more snappy, no better battery life though. The only problem I have encountered is that Quickpull does not work anymore which is not a big deal since you can just ctrl alt delete to reset.

I got a Mac and I wanna try this on my Verizon Curve running OS Any suggestions on how I could do this using DM (or any other program) on my Mac?

This is my first leaked OS, and I have to say I am impressed. But since my Desktop Manager took it and loaded it on its own I highly doubt its a real leak. My DM without missing a beat detected a new OS and did the install no hitch at all what-so-ever. As some have stated the browser is faster, and yes I was suprised at this as well. I am not seeing much else at all. There was more memory, but thats typical after OS updates. And advise for some (I should have thought/ known) if you are tethering with your bb disconnect before you start the process, that cause a small hicup, thats my only advise.

I wonder what will change for the official update!

Try missing a call. Whether I have one of the audible settings enabled or simply vibrate, if I miss a call, I have to reboot the phone to get anything back. When I check either the built-in ringtones or those I've created, I get an error that each and every one of them is invalid. I have no speaker or mic until reboot as well.

Once I reboot, all is well. But this never happened with the .654 update, which I believe is the last one I upgraded to before this leak.
