Leaked: OS for the BlackBerry Storm 9530

Own a BlackBerry Storm 9530 and looking to upgrade the OS on it? Over the weekend OS popped up in quite a few places for everyone to check out. If you haven't managed to grab it yet, now is the time to do so. Be sure to back your data up before you load this one, as always with unofficial OS'. You can read more in the CrackBerry forums about how this OS is working for folks.

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Follow the links below for more information and instructions. *

Leaked: OS for the BlackBerry Storm 9530

I would highly suggest reading about this leaked OS in the forums before jumping onboard. The camera has some issues, as does data service speeds. Glad the dinosaur 9530 is still getting some love.

I found after trying .741 & .743 hybrids over .685 still had the camera issue, did a clean wipe this morning and installed "Lyric's .748" hybrid over .685 and camera issue is gone, have taken around 30 random pics and rebooted 5-6 times just to make sure, but still working flawlessly.

Calling all Storm1/2 users who use their phone for entertainment. Switch to the any top notch Droid phone and I guarantee you, you wont be disappointed at all. I was once trapped in the BlackBerry world and found a beautiful device called the Motorola Droid.

How about "whatever makes a person happy" don't need you trying to shove it down a persons throat.

Maybe you should read the forums a little more cause you'd see there is thousands of us out here that are just fine with our "S1/S2's" and don't need someone telling us otherwise fanboi.

Hey, what if my 'smart'phone is used first and foremost as a communication device and second as a toy? Perhaps fast messaging across multiple mediums, battery life, and reception are all very important to me? Maybe I can use my Nintendo DS, Wii, Xbox 360, or my PS3 for playing games on... Hmmm...

hey i'm tired of Rim not listening to their customers... i had the storm1 and i'm just tired of it all. so i'm jumping off this sinking ship and getting the DroidX as soon as its released. sorry blackberry but you're not cutting the mustard anymore... and this isn't storm love, this was leaked ! there's a difference.

Finally i thought i would never get an upgrade and have to wait for the slider...hopefully i can figure this out on a macbook

I went from a storm 1 to a droid back to a bold 9650. I had the Droid for 2 days and was not happy with the way it worked for email and some other apps that i used alot. I may not have the screen size as a droid but i can still watch videos and movies. So think about what you really need in a phone before making any os switches.

This is a nice little upgrade from the previous OS...the lock is much smoother, the memory doesnt leak much at all either so i am very happy! Thanks for this!

I am somewhat of a loyalist and cannot make the switch from Blackberry, however after seeing that IPHONE4 that would probably be the only phone I switch to. I love my Storm 9530 (first ever touchscreen blackberry besides 9500 Lol).

I am however going to change to the Storm2 before jumping off the blackberry bandwagon.

Dont really do the hybrid OS upgrades, only the official Verizon uprgades.

So hopefully my good old 9530 will get an official upgrade from Verizon.

I must say I went from storm 1 to storm 2 and I am not really happy...I had less problems with my storm 1. I need to send the storm 2 in for repair again but it will take 2-3 weeks due to Telus new policy and I get a old Pearl. Talk about night and day. I only started using blackberry when they got the storm because I have had a touch screen with Palm Treo. So I say to those who are thinking of the Storm 2 on Telus wait for version 3.

I may be a little way too late but where the hell do I find .748?? In the forums maybe? I havent loaded a leaked OS on my Storm since .419 and I am a big fan of leaked OS's. Needless to say my S1 is running fine and the 2 themes I use are great so I never updated after that. So if this release has issues, where can I find .748? any noticeable differences?

...so I updated my tothis os with no problem.... works ok except for the camera issue.... but what is the difference? I fail to see anything new so why exactly is this an "upgrade"???

The camera issue is fixed by bbsaking a file they provide over at bbhybrids. I have also noticed that when you open the list of options of how to show the list of appa in app world its only a black line and you have to guess where each category is. The keyboard got better.

of going back to .419, because .685 makes my BB Storm too much like an Iphone. It doesn't drop calls though. Instead when I make calls, the person on the other end can't hear me. Is anyone else having this issue? The camera is relatively slow as well. That's my feedback as a leak OS guinea pig.

For the camera if u go to the crackberry article and click on the source it will provide you with a link of a .cod file that u could bbsak onto ur blackberry and fix ur camera.

Yeah I'm having the same issues with phone calls. When somebody calls me and I answer it, I can't hear them nd they can't hear me. Its really annoying and I almost qant to change back to .328 because of it.

Thanks joe18. Unfortunately, all I got when I clicked on the source you recommended in the article was a page in a foriegn language. I ended up downgrading down to .328.

Does anyone know anything about OS for the Storm? I saw it on the Blackberry website.

Lyrical's 748 (over 419) is freakin fantastic!

If youre still using the latest "official" .328....do yourself a favor and try the hybrid!

Hybrids are the only reason i still use the 9530..I have been a big fan of blackberry over the last 5 years..I have to agree with some of the people's opinions, in that the software is crap..

I use Lyr's 748 as well. That release VASTLY improved my phone, especially when you can shrink the OS when you load it. I get about 38MB of free memory now, and memory leaks are virtually non existent. My radio is 10x better now as well.

If Verizon got the iPhone, I think it would be a tough choice for me at my next renewal.. I will not get the Storm 2..If i stuck it out with RIM again, i would get my physical keyboard back..

RIM does need to step it up, or they will continue to slide.

How and where can I get that hybrid update? Is it safe? I hate this phone and will try anything in the hopes it will work better.

Where do u find these hybrid updates? And what doep that even mean? Sorry but I'm new at researching this stuff. I just want my 9530 to work better cuz right now I want to stop it into tiny pieces! Thanks

Here it is again:

Simple instructions (do a backup first):

Download the Hybrid, download the .419 install (same site).

Uninstall ANY/ALL versions of the BB "device software" from your PC. Reboot if prompted.

Install the .419 to your machine. Install the Hybrid.

When the Hybrid is done installing, it will load a BB util. Switch to the Shrink-an-OS tab and CHECK everything on the screen you dont need (which should be most of it). Then click the shrink button to get rid of all the cr*p. You shouldnt need to change anything else.

Run the "loader".

Select any third-party apps that you no longer use until they are set to "remove" and select the backup option....and proceed with the update. Come back in like 30 mins to enjoy the best 9530 OS experience to date :)

If I missed anything, feel free to chime in with additions.

A hybrid is basically a version of the OS that takes the best pieces from all the various OS versions and combines them into one GOOD OS.

Like the radio files from one version, the camera files from another, etc.

If you are running an older "official" OS, or even worse....4.7...then this hybrid will make it like a whole new phone. That is unless your phone is just whacked from being run through the washing machine too many times or something.

I still love my 9530! Its been rock solid for 1.5 years now.

The only issue I have is it can get a little unresponsive for a few mins when overly-exposed to the Texas summer heat :)
