I would try it out, but having only today upgraded mine to .592, and then installing the willyboy hybrid, I think my phone's had enough for one day.

Well, nothing huge to note, other than a tiny bit more free memory. Big problem is after all was said and done, I cannot complete the enterprise activation with BESX. Was working fine prior to this. No changes made to anything other than the phone's OS, obviously.

I cancelled the EA and retried, now I get a server cannot be found error.

Argghh the madness.

Posted by pineypl Sunday, May 16, 2010 637 days ago

I had to wipe the Bold 9000 and re-activate against the BESX. That cleared it all and I am back to normal. First results seem to be a great deal more free memory, just don't have time with it yet to see what/how many memory leaks there are and how bad they are.

Previously I ran with basic apps; Gmail, Gmaps, Smartshopper, BeWeather free, and Opera Mini, at hovered at 24mb free. Now I am at 27.5mb free. We'll see how it holds up. I'll post back here about what I find overnight.

Sorry, I posted about my Bold 9000 in the 8900 area, as I was downloading this leak for my wife's 8900 while already updating my Bold.

Can these posts be moved to the 9000 leak are?

Thanks

Dang I just now downloaded to leaked version of o.s 5.0 for my 8900 today lol I agree I think my blackberry has done enough for today. PLUS VER .592 IS WORKING EXCELLENT!!!

Posted by jonmark Sunday, May 16, 2010 637 days ago

How do you change the OS? is there a blog for the steps or something? Last time I tried to connect my 8900 to my mac, for some reason it said "no operating system detected" and wiped my 8900 .. I panicked and once I rebooted my 8900 I never connected it again ... is there a way to do it without using the usb to the computer?

Just installed the OS. Only problem I ran into was that my icons got all reorganized after the install so I had to setup everything again. Other than that, seems to be running smoothly so far. Will see how the battery consumption is over the next day!

Same here!! Did you also lose the 'Audio Postcard' icon with this build? That's the only one I think I lost for some odd reason or another.

Not impressed so far. App World has been hidden once again and the information for my contacts got jumbled together. For example I have three "Carl"'s they all have phone numbers and info of other people. I'm pissed. I assume this is not directly related this OS leak though.

Downloaded newest version, been playing with it less than an hour but so far I'm not able to listen to music while viewing my pics. Everything else is ok so far. Camera shutter sound is different but I have third party app to silence it anyway.

Mind you I've been using OS 4.6xxx until yesterday 5/18 bc that's all BB desktop manager had available (so wack). So I don't have any experience with 5.0 OS's (that's right this is my first experience with 5.0) lol. That being said, I like this 5.0 way better than the slow 4.6 I was using previously. This OS is way quicker (browsing and screen/application transition) and the menus are more intuitive. Like the "share" feature when trying to email or MMS a pic in your media library. I was finally able to run the Snow Leopard Theme I downloaded like 2 months ago. Battery life has improved to about 1 day and 1/2 even with heavy usage. I couldn't get through breakfast the next day without the low battery LED notification. So overall, I'm way better off than I was. A pleasant feature that's nice about this OS like I mentioned above are it's transitions between screens. They're cleaner and more interesting than before (can't tell if that's the snow leopard theme or the overall OS). Also, when selecting small hyperlinks in the web browser, a bubble pops up when u hover over the link, so as to help the user know that your pointer is indeed on top or around the link you want. All my BBM contacts were saved perfectly and so were my regular phone contacts. I lost my twitter app but I was able to DL that w/ no problem. The downloading of this OS went well too. Easy and efficient. Just go to the forums and find the leaked OS download instructions and paste the "app loader" command in the run function in windows to delete the "vendor.xml" file and you should be good to go.

That's all I got.

Peace!

I am with Orange UK, and have been informed they will not be upgrading from my 4.6 to 5 anytime soon. Can someone talk me through upgrading the leaked version, and let me know if it's safe to do so.. I have never done anything like this before. Thanks for the help. Dee.x

Hey, I'm on Orange UK, and I've upgraded from OS 4.6 to OS 5.0.0592.

http://crackberry.com/leaked-os-5-0-0-592-blackberry-curve-8900

To get the OS installer, dannycat has posted a rapidshare link (http://rapidshare.com/files/
370508444/8900M_PBr5.0.0_rel1004_PL5.2.0.58_A5.0.0.592.exe).

In the CrackBerry link, look for a post titled 'YES!' by brucegolfnut. They list a very good walkthrough about how to upgrade your BlackBerry. I removed my SIM MicroSD cards as well before step D just as a precaution.

Hope this helps!

This is the first upgrade I did for my Curve 8900, I was running 4.6 I guess... or something like that, the latest official OS, but I was getting tired of it, so these are the improvements I've seen in this one so far

- Menus and graphics looking better, kind of like a 3D looking for the buttons.
- Capability to change the font size to even 5 (which is way small for those who like to see a lot in the screen)
- When you do a battery pull, there is a bar that appears showing you the progress of the restarting OS (I really like this feature)
- The camera sound is much shorter.
- It gives you the option to vibrate and ring the "ringtone" at the same time (before you needed to wait till the two vibrations finish and then the ringtone will start"
-It gives you the option to change between three diff vibrations (short, medium, long)
-They created a new icon where they store all your sms and mms, so they dont get mixed in the "messages" icon or folder.
-The SMS and MMS look better, they changed in way that you can see the conversation like a chat in bb messenger, with the name and picture of the people you are texting with, and keep the converstion in the "bubble" style (you can even use the emoticons).
-The icons showing in the main screen get fade when you scroll up.
-and finally, they changed the lady for the voice commands, this one seems to be much younger and excited... hahaha.

I didn't find anything wrong with the apps I have, so far all of them work, except for Blackberry World Apps.

I'll give more feed about the battery life, appears to be much longer... ahh... and it seems to be a little more fast.
