The folks over at BBLeaks bring you all OS 5.0.0.643 for the BlackBerry Storm 9520. As noted by them, this is release is a non DRM version so it's not useful to all users out there. But worst case you may see some hybrid OS' come from it. Remember, if you download this one back up your data folks and be sure your device is compatible.
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Follow the links below for more information and instructions. *

what's the difference between a DRM version and a non-DRM version?

I guess Gen 1 Storm is done for support basically. LAME!

My Storm 1 has gone for repairs to Voda right now... I love it, atleast it didn't have the freaky touch pad behavior issue of multiple presses and end key not working at times... !!!!

This combined with the lack of features of upcoming phones is he reason why I clicked "purchase" on an HT incredible this morning... That plus my storm told me it was out of memory and wanted to know what aplications I wanted to delete. How about none of them? Cause everything on it is stuff I need and use often. Recently wiped the phone too and put on less than what was on before.

will it work on the 9550? Basically the same phone just without the dual radios....right?
berrysub Apr 23, 2010 at 6:54 pm
no it won't
tkaudio Apr 23, 2010 at 7:47 pm
will it work with the 607 radio for the 9550
berrysub Apr 24, 2010 at 4:25 am
no,this is an os for 9520, NOT FOR 9550.
If you are using a hybrid os on 9520, backup, wipe phone, then install that os and it should work, providing you don't have a branded phone

I am an early Storm1 buyer and have another 8 months left before I can get a good deal on a new phone. There are a lot of us who bought in early who could use some loyalty from RIM on upgrades. If they can do it for the 9520, why not the 0530?

Let's see, waiting forever for O/S 6 on the Storm 1. Will never happen with Verizon in charge. Memory always low and have only 3 apps. No theme works right on the 9530. The O/S is choppy and slow at times. Yep, no good reason to keep it or any other Blackberry for that matter. I have 32 days to go and I am going to back over my 9530 with the Chrysler. I'll post pictures. I wouldn't wish this phone on anyone.
