So much for the slow BlackBerry news. Yesterday we saw OS 5.0.0.554 leak for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and the BlackBerry Curve 8900. Not to be left in the dark, here we have the leaked version of the same for the BlackBerry Curve 8520. No idea what exactly has changed in this relase so we'll leave that up to you all. Be sure to back up your data folks, but I'm sure you guys already knew that.
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Sick and tired of ROGERS not releasing an official 5.0 for my bold 9000. Might be upgrading to Bell soon.
afropoika Mar 23, 2010 at 10:33 am
I'm sick and tired hearing whining of people like you. Have you signed a contract with Rogers that makes them obliged to put out a 5.0 software update for your BlackBerry? Did Rogers ever promise you this 5.0 software update prior or after your bought the BlackBerry? If no, then what makes you think you should be receiving an update anyway?
shabbs Mar 23, 2010 at 11:21 am
Just upgrade your phone already. Don't wait for Rogers to release an official OS 5 update, cuz it ain't coming. Lots of us Rogers folks running these leaks with no issues at all.

Can't remember when was the last time i had an official OS on my BB.
RWWackostu Mar 23, 2010 at 10:35 am
I dont know how many times I have said this but here goes. It dosent matter what your carrier is with a GSM phone. When one releases an OS, it's like they all did. Just delete the vendow xml and go for it!

From looking at the comments from the 8900/9000 leak, I can't find anything definitive about this leak OS's changelog from the .509 one... Anybody have tried this leak? Please tell...
Or is it better use the official .509 for now?

After upgrading to this, my trackpad is frozen, can anyone help???
RWWackostu Mar 23, 2010 at 3:57 pm
Installed and running for a few hours. Better speed between menus/screens. Browser seems faster. Picture viewing issue from .509 look better. Cant comment on battery or mem leak yet but will monitor. Overall seems more "snappy"

So I noticed that Sudoku and Texas Hold 'Em games are missing from this build, they were there in .509 from Hellas... Not such a big deal for me, but my wife is hooked on Sudoku. Other than that I don't notice much difference from the previous leaked build. Upgrade was smooth and no other issues to report. It will take through today to determine if battery life is better or not.
Chrigg1000 Mar 24, 2010 at 3:13 pm
Hey let me know how your battery is doing...I can't tell if the battery life is better or not...thanks.
dlnielse Mar 25, 2010 at 2:33 pm
Seems to be a bit better than the previous release, I am down to 55% since installing on Wednesday, I was travelling yesterday so quite a bit of usage. Hard to quantify, but I would estimate maybe 5-10% better than 4.6...
My WiFi seems to be working very well, browsing is also pretty snappy and I also noticed the App Store was missing like mentioned elsewhere here. I went to re-install and it said it was already there... It is working properly now so don't know what the issue is.
gaboalonso Mar 24, 2010 at 5:05 pm
Overall I find it runs the screens and menu more smoothly.
Also noticed a better performance on the browser.
I think I like it a lot.
Only bug I've found so far is that the App store access disappeared, it was nowhere to be found. Had to install it again, even though BB installer said it was already installed.
Also, as noticed before, some games are missing, but I couldn't care less about those.
Battery life seems about the same as 509. The image browsing process is now faster and natural, but I didn't try that on 509, so I wouldn't know if it is actually an improvement (It is from 4.6, thats for sure).
Overall I recommend this leaked update.
Hope this helps.

I've downloaded & installed in my Gemini. It was all doing just fine, until I realize there are some bugs on the Memory Cleaning menu. There are some unknown item on such Memory cleaning issue. I have the images, but I don't know how to post it here...
gaboalonso Mar 25, 2010 at 11:13 am
Rusco, what memory cleaning issues? What new memory cleaning items, and how is that a bug?
Just ran the memory cleaning app, and it works just fine for me.
