One more for the evening. BlackBerry Curve 8530 owners, this is for you. OS 5.0.0.886 has leaked and, while we're not exactly sure what has changed, it could be worth the time it takes to upgrade. Especially, if you've been having issues with any previous OS. Again, back up your data folks before you load it. And if ya come across anything cool, be sure to leave some comments so others know about it.
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Follow the links below for more information and instructions. *

Anyone notice anything worth while? (I don't want to download a leaked update if there's nothing new.)

I hate being a new user to BB and not know how to update this phone. Other than what Verizon gives us to update. Any advice on how to install this on a $20 8530?
khobbs Aug 23, 2010 at 3:21 am
I'll tell you, if you tell me where I can pick up an 8530 for $20!

I got 2 8530's as new customer at Verizon. Buy 1 get 1 free. Then sent in for the $100 rebate. And the phone was $119.99.

I got my 8530 for $9.99 from US Cellular. It should have been $29.99, but I was only charged $79.99 with a $70 rebate instead of $99.99. Score one for me! Anyway, I haven't noticed any problems with 5.0.0.886. It did do two install reboots, which I don't recall it having done on 5.0.0.847. One after restoring the applications, and one after restoring the data. And the second one jumped to about 65% and hung there for about 10 minutes, so it took about the same time to boot anyway.

But how do I download the new updated OS? Doesn't seem to let me update it using the phone. And when I do an OS update. It says there are no updates available.

Read the forums rookie and they tell you. Its really easy once you do it once.

Basically you install the os to your computer from the downloaded file. Navigate to "Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader," delete "vendor.xml," and run "Loader.exe."
Blackberry desktop won't update because the vendors don't match. Plus, even if you delete the "vendor.xml" and use Blackberry Desktop it checks the internet first, sees no update, and won't load the new os. Thats why you just run "Loader.exe." It skips the internet check and all.

do you get paid to let people advertise their shoes on your site?

This is boring me. Be king people and help the BB community, but wake me up when the OS 6 is out.
compinche Aug 23, 2010 at 12:06 pm
OS5 is already up too .886 what will happen when it gets to six? Or will this be one of the last OS leak for us 8530 users? Hmmm let's see what's gonna happen

i was on an old OS OS 5.0.0.395... now i upgraded to this version and it runs smoother and internet seems faster as well!!
All i seem to see different though also when you do safe mode by pressing down the play key no more notification of going into safe mode it just does by itself with a notice!
only things ive noticed so far!
