Leaked OS 6.0.0.448 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700
By
Bla1ze on 24 Jan 2011 04:47 pm

Oh hey, Blackberry Bold 9700 users! You've not been forgotten about. Last leak for the Bold 9700 was that of 6.0.0.424 and now, you can fire up the tools needed to update to OS 6.0.0.448 should you so wish. As always, back up your device data first please. We'd hate to see you lose anything. PS: No funny business with this one, it's your basic installable file. But you do get a new Facebook v1.9.0.26.
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

How do you download this on a Mac? Would love to upgrade, but I have no PC.

Did you find a way? I also would like to know.

Sweet, hope this addresses the battery issue.

The 9700 may not have been forgotten, but it sure does seem like the 9800 has. There hasn't been a leek for a long while. The "Best Blackberry Ever" isn't as up to date as the ole 9700 for a while now.
jcastilloalonso Jan 24, 2011 at 5:07 pm
Sorry but the 9700 IS the best BB ever (yet). My guess the 9800 works good enough with 6.0 and they are working on 6.1 while 6.0 is still very buggy on the 9700 and hence development continues on 6.0
wherman Jan 24, 2011 at 5:10 pm
I was just using RIM's quote of "Best Blackberry Ever." And there are a bunch of issues with the 9800 OS. The biggest PITA is the scrolling bug that puts you somewhere in the middle of a conversation every time you open an SMS instead of the last message.
cvannini Jan 24, 2011 at 5:26 pm
Glad I'm not the only one with that problem. Not a huge deal, just a little annoying. There hasn't been any sort of update in a long time.
luqman24 Jan 24, 2011 at 5:54 pm
I've never come across something like that. Had the Stock .246 for a week when I got my Torch then the BDhM 5.0 (I think that's how its spelt) .337 hybrid and never heard or experienced it.

hope this fixes the sketchy battery!
keysteele Jan 24, 2011 at 5:25 pm
nice for the 9700, but the 9780 is now sitting pretty low in the build numbers...
naderalmaleh Jan 24, 2011 at 5:26 pm
Downloading... Can't wait :)
Moo Cow Jan 24, 2011 at 5:38 pm
"But you do get a new Facebook v1.9.0.26."
So I wonder why that OS gets the new Facebook but yet it's not available elsewhere for other OSes like that of my Bold 9650.
... or is it, and I just have missed out on that info?
telephonemike Jan 24, 2011 at 5:41 pm
My download shows a 96 meg file only.
Coatta11 Jan 24, 2011 at 5:43 pm
"But you do get a new Facebook v1.9.0.26."
Does this mean the scroll issue will be fixed?? Not that it bothers me that much as you can just use scroll left/right to catch up to the cursor, but I guess time will tell what has been updated in this latest release.
d..k Jan 24, 2011 at 5:46 pm
yes, scrolling issue seems to be fixed!
Coatta11 Jan 24, 2011 at 6:58 pm
Confirmed, the scrolling in Facebook has been fixed. The cursor in BBM however is still invisible. As with previous relases, the cursor can be made visible again by pressing the shift key.
Coffee Addict Jan 24, 2011 at 5:49 pm
awesome....hope the battery issue is totally fixed. That's the only bug
mafia16 Jan 24, 2011 at 5:51 pm
Can someone upload the new facebook to OTA to see I can download it to a curve 8520 please
Hockeypuck55 Jan 24, 2011 at 6:36 pm
What he said. Need an OTA for the new Facebook.
enots27 Jan 24, 2011 at 6:02 pm
Hay all I just learned about the leak and will have to wait till tomorrow to download. Just 1 question do you still get page to large for device error whilst browsing.
topnoch Jan 24, 2011 at 6:27 pm
downloading now.... :-)
the only issue i had with the previous leak is the memory leak. other than that, the 9700 has been good to me. with os 6 on it, there is no temptation to upgrade. i hope this fixes the memory leak.
janblack Jan 24, 2011 at 6:39 pm
nice, i can copy paste.!
Snypa Jan 24, 2011 at 6:44 pm
If i have a cursor and the memory leak is fixed and i have atleast 80mb free I'm a happy camper.
emomike25 Jan 24, 2011 at 9:08 pm
Install a hybrid... I've had a hybrid ever since os 6 was released. I have 108mb of free space... Yes 108MB!, the memeory leak is non existant, and the battery life is great. I use Kyle's BTHM hybrids. They're the best IMO. I've never had success with ANY releases. Hybrids are the way to go. And as always, the great thing about Blackberrys, you can always switch back to a base os if you want. (That 108 MB is with the following 3rd party apps installes: FB, Snatu, Call Control Pro, App World, App Store, Bolt, QuickPull, BerryWeather, QuickLaunch, and Google Voice)
havok442 Mar 1, 2011 at 1:08 am
Hey man, where did you find the hybrid?
Renella Jan 24, 2011 at 6:53 pm
Does anyone know if this version has the cursor issues fixed? When I am in a message in Blackberry messenger, I don't have the cursor to scroll through messages. Same thing with Facebook. The cursor seems to disappear.
Snypa Jan 24, 2011 at 7:04 pm
someone up above said it was fixed. Not sure as i havent installed as yet.
velkcro Jan 24, 2011 at 9:24 pm

downloading hope this fixes invisible cursors
AnneO Jan 24, 2011 at 7:39 pm
i don't care about the cursor. i am concerned about the memory dropping to 10 megs well before the end of the evening.

djpaso Jan 24, 2011 at 7:42 pm
I've done every leak so far & this to me is the best. The new facebook runs smoother, the web browser feels smoother & snappier. Not sure about battery life as yet as its too soon, but the curser in my sms & mms is back. Unfotunately its still missing in bbm. Maybe I'll try to reinstall bbm & see, but its looking good so far!
Aztek13 Jan 24, 2011 at 7:44 pm
Just installed it and Facebook looks the same to me and I still get the memory leak problem. I don't think that'll EVER get fixed. :(
punisher85 Jan 24, 2011 at 8:01 pm
The only problem that I had with the .424 leak the buttons 1 and 7 were changed , if i push 1 then it comes 7. now with this leak is it gone. and hopefully the battery indicator will work exactly
thetnaung Jan 24, 2011 at 8:32 pm
Good or Bad, will upgrade it. Can't wait!
diruocco Jan 24, 2011 at 8:33 pm
ok people, i have installed the os to my bold, and this is what i have noticed so far;
-text messaging cursor is still there from last os update
- unfortunately bbm cursor is still not there
- the facebook flow is so much better. the cursor actually follows you if u want to click on something.
- i don`t know if its just me or maybe because the last os (.424) was terrible on the web but in this os the web kicks ass. (i hope this is not because its a fresh install of this os) but its a huge improvement. It renders a lot faster and is smother.
Also i know this isn't so important but on my device, when it is being charged the lightening bolt on the battery seems to come and go. (it gives it a cool effect in my opinion)
- as far as memory leak goes, in the app world it says i have 58mb left. not so great. (i'm sure there is still somewhat of a memory leak)
- and the battery, it hasn't been long enough to actually tell yet. however it has to be better then os .424. For me that battery leak was awful.
2wheeltim Jan 24, 2011 at 8:49 pm
Can anyone who's installed report on the page 2 large issue? I'm currently running a OS6 hybrid, have 102 mb free with no sign of leak, and the last 24 hrs has seen my battery go from 60% to 20% with average use, including downloading needed ringtones and two hours of phone calls. Just wondering if there's hope for the browser issues.
RedDotNick Jan 24, 2011 at 9:09 pm
Best OS6 leak so far!!!
velkcro Jan 24, 2011 at 9:19 pm
on my previous update which is the one before this update my led didnt show for my email i hope that is fixed and hopefully its not my phone.
dimz_forever Jan 24, 2011 at 9:21 pm
Guys after shrinking my os using "shrink-a-os" my free space of memory is 110.1mb. thats the best ive had so far......with 424 i had 83......but 110....my phone must think its running os5 lol
With os5 i had 118.3mb and with os6 i have 110.1mb AMAZING!! BEST LEAK SO FAR!!
I suggest you guys use shrink-a-os when installing this os
cribble2k Jan 25, 2011 at 1:37 am
When I use that on my PC (Win 7), it tells me that there are 0mb in my java folder, and after shrinking, it tells me that my OS has been shrunk, and I now have 0mb in the java folder. Checking said folder it was empty. Meaning this program did absolutely nothing.
Yes, I had it in the right folder, ran it as admin, etc. Googled the latest version.
cribble2k Jan 25, 2011 at 1:59 am
.
gridlonk12 Jan 26, 2011 at 1:40 pm
How did you get that much memory? Are you on the 9700? What did you leave out of your Shrink A OS list?
dannyd86 Jan 24, 2011 at 9:27 pm
Facebook cursor fixed. Copy and paste in everything is now fixed. Mainly all my apps didn't have the paste working. Like having to remember and jump from screens for addresses with google maps, or registration codes for bebuzz. No changes in available memory, around 70mb.
Hasn't been long enough to test battery problems, or if that 70mb will go down to 10mb by tomorrow morning without a battery pull
emomike25 Jan 24, 2011 at 11:33 pm
Not sure if anyone knows this, so if so, then disregard it but you can copy and paste anything at any point even if there is no menu option to copy and paste. Highlight whatever it is that you want to copy, after you've highlighted it, hit alt then push the trackpad. Then go to any other app or any other screen and hit the shift key then the trackpad. Quick copy and paste. Works every time. Just an FYI
Justam Jan 26, 2011 at 1:55 am
I was thinking just the other day this device must have a key combo for copy/paste! Didn't bother to look it up at the time however I am glad to read this now! Thanks emomike25!
dimz_forever Jan 24, 2011 at 9:35 pm
my blackberry seems to boost a lot faster now.............WOW this shrink os thing is amazing
Prettyboyant Jan 24, 2011 at 10:11 pm
Is the shrink os thing is app ??
dimz_forever Jan 24, 2011 at 10:24 pm
No google it and download it...you can also find tutorials on google as well :) thats what i did and it worked perfect!
radimus Jan 24, 2011 at 11:05 pm
Can anyone comment on how well the browser is 448 handles mobile sites. With 424 the mobile version of Crackberry rendered in a font that was too small to read, and because it was a mobile site the click-to-zoom feature was disabled.
afiqhamzah Jan 25, 2011 at 12:00 am
you can always use alt+up/down(trackpad) to zoom in/out.
radimus Jan 25, 2011 at 6:27 am
Yes, but in 424 the browser wouldn't wrap the text if you manually zoomed in on a mobile site. To read everything you had to scroll side to side.
radimus Jan 28, 2011 at 2:07 pm
Got to test this on a coworker's 9700 that had 448 installed. The same issue still exists. Oh well.
Prettyboyant Jan 24, 2011 at 11:17 pm
So what you google ?
dancing-bass Jan 25, 2011 at 12:15 am
google "blackberry shrink-a-OS" or something similar. Never tried it (and I'm on a crappy phone at the moment) but it should work. I've heard lots of good things about it
Prettyboyant Jan 25, 2011 at 12:41 am
Good look.
SC457 Jan 25, 2011 at 1:11 am
Seems really good, web is better for sure!
2wheeltim Jan 25, 2011 at 12:31 pm
Would you mind to explain how the browser is better for sure? Faster, smoother, less error messages, better font, better zoom, ect?!
SC457 Jan 25, 2011 at 2:31 pm
Speed seems improved a lot and a mobile banking site that didn't work before now works again. But I noticed the speed has improved.

loving the flashing battery charge symbol, worth the upgrade alone.
josh05 Jan 25, 2011 at 2:12 pm
The Facebook cursor issue is fixed and the browser is a tad bit faster and the os is just as snappy, if not more snappy than the official version of .380. And I did notice the lightning icon blinking when the device is being charged. Last, but not least, the copy and paste feature works all the time now. This is worth the upgrade from the official version alone because it corrects the copy and paste issue that the official one has. Thanks for sharing this leak!

Everything is great except App World. I can download new apps but can't update my previous downloads. Get an error message about not being connected to the network. Tried soft reset and battery pull but still getting same error. Other than that, working great. Facebook curser issue is fixed!
pastorz Jan 25, 2011 at 11:08 pm
Okay. Uninstalled and reinstalled app world and everything is hunky dory. Just need to cut out some of the excess fat with BBSAK. Otherwise, so far a solid leak.
romanh99 Jan 25, 2011 at 8:15 pm
Is anyone missing the social feeds app that bb6 is supposed to come with?
I have a bb 9700 and just upgraded to the leak above. Having a hard time finding that social feeds feature.
Help anyone.
Justam Jan 26, 2011 at 1:58 am
After you install the OS run Desktop Manager again and under apps select the social feeds app to install. Thats all there is to it!
thoughthalo Jan 25, 2011 at 8:45 pm
Successful install. Loving it. I think the browser has become more nimble and fast
romanh99 Jan 25, 2011 at 9:05 pm
Do you have your social feed app when you upgraded?
romanh99 Jan 25, 2011 at 11:46 pm
No. I purchase the phone off my friend yesterday and had a version of a leaked bb6 os on it already. Older version.
Should I go back to os5 then istall this leaked version to get my social feed app on here?
Help.
Justam Jan 26, 2011 at 2:00 am
You will need the leaked os installed on your computer then run Desktop Manager and go to application management or whatever it is called and select the social feeds app from there. Click apply and it will update your BB!
romanh99 Jan 26, 2011 at 1:08 pm
Thanks!! worked out for me!!
salim587 Jan 25, 2011 at 9:31 pm
So far so good. Facebook is running smooth, cursor DOESN'T disappear anymore. And also, i've noticed that the battery indicator when charging "blinks". it looks good to me. Good Job RIM!!..
shlee Jan 25, 2011 at 10:35 pm
BBM just started working on its own. Not sure what happened. But everything is great. I mean so far that was the only issue. Glad to have facebook back though
jaystyles201#cb Jan 25, 2011 at 11:23 pm
i downloaded this software but for some reason it deleted my bbm after a while and i couldnt find the icon or anything on my phone. anyone had a issue like this ? please replay to me ill appreciate it

i'm having a very weird issue with this leak. Has any body had any issues with the call function??? while in a call, mine seems to jump from handset to speaker uncontrollably...
gridlonk12 Jan 26, 2011 at 1:39 pm
Ahh I had that issue in OS5 build 240 or something. Wiping and changing to a newer build fixed that issue. I made sure to clean out the headset port as well.
so3finest Jan 26, 2011 at 11:07 am
downloaded the new OS yesterday into my 9700 for at&t and so far so good copy and paste works now and the batt life last longer too and the web feels a bit faster ...... all in all its a better OS then the last one !
gridlonk12 Jan 26, 2011 at 1:37 pm
So far the only bug I ran into is the Facebook password field lag when setting up Ubertwitter. Other than that, after I migrated from OS5 842 then running ShrinkAOS and then installing this OS its been fast fast fast!
sgouz Jan 26, 2011 at 2:16 pm
Any way to apply this on a Mac?
jm312 Jan 26, 2011 at 4:15 pm
I don't know if anyone noticed it, but yu cannot move on to the next or previous email in messages now. I mean, in the past we were able to move on to the next email by scrolling to the right in the email. Now I have to get out of the email and then open the next one manually.
joeberrymomma Feb 10, 2011 at 1:07 pm
Personally, I am glad to not have that feature. Whenever I wanted to scroll right inside the body of the message, for instance, to highlight a link, I would have to do this very carefully, otherwise it would scroll to the next message or group of messages. Annoying.
The ability to move through messages still exists, just not scrolling right and left. Open a message in the list of emails, click "N" for next and "P" for previous. Blackberries have all kinds of hot keys per application. Good stuff!

Can some one tell me how come Facebook sound is silent looked in profiles since installing this OS and there is no option so now my Facebook is silent

It is there for me.
Go to the sound profile icon on the main screen -> Change Sounds and Alerts -> Sounds for Selected Profile -> Other Applications -> Facebook.
BOP_Eagle Jan 26, 2011 at 5:06 pm
I installed this Monday, somehow lost all my backups and ended up with a clean install. My issue is that my phone doesn't recognize that i have a micro sd card anymore. When i try to use the video camera, it tells me to put a memory card in first and also can't save pictures there either. Any ideas?
jm312 Jan 26, 2011 at 6:11 pm
First make sure Media card support is on in your BB. Go to Options -> Device -> Storage -> Tick Media Card Support.
Next, -> remove and insert the media card. The phone should give you a notification if something is wrong with your memory card.
If nothing happens, try the card on something else to make sure the card is fine.
BOP_Eagle Jan 26, 2011 at 6:51 pm
All good now, thanks.
Now, if I could just find those backups lol.
Aztek13 Jan 26, 2011 at 6:19 pm
I've had this now running for a couple of days with relatively no problems except the old memory leak. However, today, I was playing music with my bluetooth car speaker through my car's speakers and the media player suddenly stopped playing and then it rapidly went through the playlist without actually playing the songs. The only way to stop it was to turn off my bluetooth unit. Anyone else had this happen and if so, how did you fix it? It's never happened before with any other leak.
topnoch Jan 26, 2011 at 9:35 pm
how do you play music from your bb through your bluetooth? I have a motorola unit, but am only able to use it for phone calls.
captain_tinker Jan 27, 2011 at 1:35 am
I'm a little disappointed in it. I've not been able to get it to work. Understand I've also been trying to shrink it with shrink-a-os, and some other tools. Even without shrinking it though, it just ends up in a reboot loop most of the time. I did get it to install once, but it kept freezing and would not work properly. So far, I think 380 has been the most stable of the recent releases, though 424 worked better with one of the programs I use. So I'm going to use that one for now until the next leak comes along.
BlueandWhiteBerry Jan 27, 2011 at 6:54 am
This is a brilliant leak. Only issue I have is bbm cursor but who really cares about that?
Snappy and stable so far with facebook scrolling fixed!!
No complaints from me on this one.

DALLASMAN214 Jan 29, 2011 at 12:37 pm
this is for the few people that dont know how to upload their os6.
GO TO
C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Application Loader
Locate and delete the vendor file.
then
GO TO
C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Application Loader
Locate and lunch the loader file (HINT: It has an icon that looks like a cell phone)
finally
Plug your phone into your desktop and keep hitting next until you see OS6 in the list and it is installed.

Hello PPL,
I m kinda new to BB, so need some help from your side. I have a BB BOLD 9700 from T-Mobile UK but I have unlocked it in India and using it with Airtel.
I want to upgrade my OS to 6. Since only Vodafone has come up with an official OS 6 for 9700 i want to know how can I upgrade.
I have few issues in mind :-
- If the OS 6 malfunctions can i return to my official OS 5 ?
- What is the Memory Leak thing thats causing problem ?
- What is the white screen of death in BB upgrade to OS 6 ?
Please help me out as I really want to move to OS 6.
Thanks in advance

I am not sure why everyone seems to be happy with this leak. Sure there is a blinking charging light....big f'ing so what! What is the point of the charging light blinking when everytime I try and browse the web I get an error message saying the page is too large and it all just shuts down! If you cant use the great webkit browser then there really is not much point to OS 6. Message to RIM, fix the damn browser issue!!!!

Agreed. The issue seems to be a memory problem, related to the memory leak. STILL THERE! The device runs thin on resources, especially mine. With all my apps a fresh boot is 35MB max. This drops rapidly due to the leak. Bummer! The browser is snappier, and RIM actually put a new pop-up message when the page is too large. I don't recall what it is but it is a different message letting the user know that the browser is about to crash and close tabs. Really lame. They know its there and the answer is to change the warning message?

I've downloaded the new OS, and the more I use it, the more I like it. It must still have memory leak issues though, because my 9700 will go from 40mb free to under 5mb free within a 24 hour period.

Howdy - thank you very much for this - BB6 rocks - I finally dedicated to take the plunge - after using Shrink-A-OS of course! and it is soooo sweet compared with BB5.

I am sure these are cool themes. Do iphone users download Blackberry themes? Guess they can't right...OS is locked down tight. LOL! Maybe they would not want to anyway.
If people want iphone look on their BB, why not just get an iphone? I am a keyboard guy, which is why I have not switched. Some other reasons too. BB could be much more awesome though...get the bugs out RIM!

GPS works on all of my apps: Google Maps, AT&T Navigator, Flixter, AP Mobile etc.
Where it does not work is in the camera. Supposed to be able to do GeoTag. I could wait for hours and it will never find me.
Composing a SMS/MMS text, there is a menu option, "Attach" where the user can attach their current location. Get a network error everytime. Can't find me. Strange thing is, if I ask it to find a business, say, Coffee house nearby, it will pull up 5-10 options within a few miles of where I am.
The GPS situations for the camera and SMS/MMS Text has not worked in any of the OS6 leaks and I have tried them all.
Other than this, I suppose this is the best leak so far. Browser is snappier, but will still crash due to memory resources. Scrolling is fixed and finally, copy and paste is in all apps. 3rd party menu support is now pretty good. Anyone have thoughts on the above GPS issues.
Have tried it with WiFi and just the network.

Did anyone notice your bold freezing a lot with the old software update? Does this new update fix this issue?

Okay, I'm downloading the Leaked OS 6 for my Bold 9700 and before I proceed with upgrading it, please answer the following questions:
Will this harm my Blackberry at all and restrict me from using anything?
In your opinion, do you believe it's a good idea to upgrade? on a scale of 1-10, how good is this upgrade?
Please reply soon
Thanks

The download link seems to be broken, it says the file has been removed. Any alternate download link?
