Hype Machine is a great app that lets you discover new music. It first landed on BlackBerry 10 back in September 2013 and we did a hands-on review of it too. It has just received an update that brings some nice new features to the mix, such as custom fonts and keyboard shortcuts to physical keyboard device owners. A little tweaking has also been made to fully support the BlackBerry Z30.

Hype Machine v1.2.1.1 changelog

  • New custom fonts (came with OS 10.2)
  • Support for the BlackBerry Z30
  • Support for the hardware keys on the device for play/pause
  • Some fixes for Built for BlackBerry

Hype Machine isn't a music app I use regularly but I do check it out often to discover new artists. I also love the Album Premiere section where I can see what is available for pre-order. It is a native BlackBerry 10 app so it runs very smoothly and I highly recommend it for music lovers.

Hype Machine is available for all BlackBerry 10 devices and is free. If you haven't checked it out yet, download it today.

The search has never worked for me and still doesn't. You either play what it suggests or nothing at all.

Great concept however

I had the same issue, after update I guess they fix it. Just try it twice and I believe it will work.
Up to now I did not notice any bug anymore.

Hype Machine worked well on my Z10. I gave the update a spin on my Z30 today. Glad to see they're keeping the app updated.

I really like this app, using it more often than the other music apps I have on my Z30 and previously owned Z10.

This is probably my favourite app on my z10. I use it every day at the gym. BB10 and iOS exclusive last time I checked.

Just download it already. :)

Great update!

Contacted the development team to ask if they were aware of even better media integration options, like third party YT apps/browser/music player.
(Using the skipping/previous, headphone controls and the "Playing" icon on the status bar).

From their response it seems they are already looking ahead to possible future updates :)

BlackBerry 10 signed.

I love that this costs $3.99 on iOS and Android, but is free on BB10 :) It's usually the other way around!

Great app for people who want to find new music "before it's cool".

Thanks HM!
