Ya I hear ya. The Globe and Mail had an equally depressing article, seems the media is very unsure of RIM at the moment. Hopefully the pb can somehow turn the tide.

RIM is fine, see what I mean? So serious. If anyone thinks RIM is just gonna up and die then you're sadly mistaken and I have some waterfront property in Arizona I'd like to sell you.

RIM hasn't done anything wrong at all but there is this sense that they screwed up somehow. They showcased a product back in Sept and indicated that it would be available at the end of Q1 - so it is going to be 19days late, big deal. However, there is this sense that the Playbook MUST be better than the iPad2 or RIM is doomed. I believe there is room for iOS, WP7, Android, QNX, webOS and others. The more options, the beter for us consumers.

I love RIM but I "feel" the tension and the sense of urgency in the articles. I can just imagine what's going on in RIM's exec mgmt mtgs. No one wants to lose market share in North America (even though they are gaining market share around the rest of the world). The sense is that if you lose the US market, it is just a matter of time before Apple/Google/Microsoft forcuses on the rest of the world markets and dominates there as well.

I feel good about Playbook and can wait for mine to be delivered but I'm NOT jumping out of my seat regarding the 6.1 lineup to be delivered summer+. It would be cool to have just 1 superphone in the lineup even if it is running 6.1 but upgradeable to QNX later.

Nobody will line up for a Playbook because I feel that Blackberry customers are more reasonable. Let's summarize how people bought an iPad2 on launch day: They waited for hours in the cold until they could buy one at 10AM, then waited in line again so they could pick it up at 5PM. That is ridiculous to me, what RIM did was proper - they let you preorder one so it would arrive at your doorstep on launch day. They went to you, BUT it doesn't get the press of an iLaunch. No big deal to me, or to anyone other than media types.

Now, how will this sell? The same way that BlackBerries did - word of mouth. I have a lot of friends anxious to get their hands on mine (I preordered a 32GB unit) and I'm certain a lot of them will buy when they use mine. The media types will froth at the mouth when the Playbook fails to match iPad2 sales on launch day, but they will also fail to mention sales numbers after when it gains momentum. That's RIM for you though, even though their products do well they can't buy a break.

Hilarious! Maybe even better than the stuff Crackberry's peanut gallery comes up with!

WOW, little wheels so I can race my PlayBook?!!! And I can put my little baby chick on top and pretent he is Speed Racer! Then I can clean the chick poop off with my free Shamwow... I don't see why these ideas didn't make the final cut?

That is awesome, I still can't wait to pick my PB up!

Entertaining for sure, but also a good commentary as others are saying. I do sadly agree that the PlayBook has to be much much better than the iPad 2 if it's going to get very many sales outside of businesses. The nature of the market has little to do with the actual usefulness or quality of a product and much more with what logo is on it, and right now the Apple logo wins the coolness factor by a landslide over the BlackBerry logo. I still tend to be a holdout and want the best product instead of the coolest, but I have heard lots of people admit that a BlackBerry is better but they'll get an iPhone because it's cooler.

RIM management should include a free iPad2 with purchase of their Playbook. That's the only way they are going to sell this thing.

Where can they find an iPad2 to give away?? A better idea is to offer a deal to iPad1 owners to upgrade to the Playbook.

whats the old saying its funny because its based on truth. if this playbook fails to live up to rims expectations heads will roll. I will buy one can't wait. only time will tell if the announcement 6 months early was a bad move or not. I think (i know no one cares) they lost as many buyers then they saved from buying other tablets. I had a heart attack this year can i sue them for stress waiting for it? I just will sue for a playbook:)
