In a new interview with CNBC, BlackBerry CEO John Chen commented a bit on the Priv, how BlackBerry is doing, and the Priv's temporary exclusivity with AT&T in the US. Kicking things off, Chen says that, while BlackBerry currently has some high fixed costs to contend with, it is currently doing reasonably well and he sees the company returning to profitability in 2016. To get the ball rolling, the Priv and future products are integral to this process. From Chen:
This is the big deal in terms of getting receptivity from the market. We want the market to tell us what they like and what they don't like and we'll adjust accordingly.
Chen was then asked about a possible Priv launch on T-Mobile. The BlackBerry CEO says that the company is in talks with the carrier and "it's not a guarantee yet" but he's hopeful. One roadblock to that launch would be the current exclusivity agreement with AT&T. When asked about the period of exclusivity, Chen would only go so far as to say it will run "most of this calendar year."
