January sales come early for the UK BlackBerry PlayBook courtesy of the Dixons Group

UK BlackBerry PlayBook sale
By DJ Reyes on 24 Dec 2011 12:23 pm EST

Christmas is just around the corner and in the UK we normally see Boxing day sales and most look forward to the January sales where prices get slashed by 70%. The Dixons Group, which comprises of Currys and PC World, have decided to bring the January sales early for the BlackBerry PlayBook. You can now get the 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook for as little as £169. That makes the PlayBook cheaper than the BlackBerry Curve 9360 and 9380. We already saw Carphone Warehouse slash prices down but Currys and PC World have gone that bit further.

It's a hell of bargain and if you've been waiting to get your hands on one perhaps now is the time to get one or even convince that special friend or family member to put it under the tree for you.

There doesn't seem to be any 32GB PlayBook models available from Currys and PC World but the 64GB PlayBook prices has also been slashed and is now £329. Thanks Bill

Carphonewarehouse are now selling at the same price as Currys and PC World. Also Carphonewarehouse have the 32GB model for £199.

However Currys and PC World are giving away a free Blackberry PlayBook Faux Leather Convertible Case and Stand with the Playbook.

The Dutch part of the Dixons group also lowered the Playbook 16GB price to: € 199,99.
Other (online) shops are following or rumored to follow with €199,-
However due to low supplies many are currently sold out or will run out fast :(

thesource.ca has the 32GB for $249.88 on sale tonight starting at 8:00PM EST but you can reserve now. I just bought mine. X-mas gift to myself! :)

Anyone looking in Canada may want to check it out.

Thanks for the heads up and I have one reserved but due to the dumbness of the marketing team or whoever of not ensuring that it had a Video chat player which most people use ie skype, YM or MSN etc its looking likely I will not bother to get which is sad as the whole family have BB's but no one else has a Playbook. But they do have ipad's and Ipods so we can skype on those for the same price it looks like we will buy a new web chat (front facing cam) ipod touch instead...

Rim if your going to make a tablet with Hi quality cameras etc and be ideal for video Confrencing (which for many families i know is the major plus/incentive/excuse for buying a tablet along with quick internet browsing) make sure it has access to a common cross device standard web chat service or two.

In the UK you do realise if you got a skype/ym/msn video chat app written for the Playbook promote the fact it can keep people in contact via skpe and Im as well as RIM products and then simply sold it at 200 300 quid or at least undercut the Ipad a little you would probably find due to the high usage levels of Blackberry in the Uk you would get a decent level of market share and Im sure elsewhere..

It looks like if the reason you don't is due to Verzion unique rights to skype on BB products then they have crippled you in the mass communicator market and probably your company to a degree and I hope they are paying you several billion dollars a year for the prvillige otherwise..

Well, after wanting to get one for ages, now the price has been discounted I have taken the plunge. Its brilliant. Sent from my PlayBook!

insane, just bought my girlfriend one, time i get the vat back it only cost me around £140, i almost bought 2.
sent from my playbook!
