Itaú Unibanco deploying BlackBerry 10 smartphones along with BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10

By Bla1ze on 10 Mar 2014 04:29 pm EDT

Itaú Unibanco, the largest private bank in Latin America, has now announced they'll be upgrading their more than 7,000 BlackBerry smartphones to BlackBerry 10 smartphones starting initially with 1,000 BlackBerry Q5's. In addition to the device upgrades, they'll also be moving to BlackBerry Enterprise Server 10 for enterprise mobility management, in order to manage and its smartphone environment and protect corporate data.

"Enterprise mobility is a key technology for us. That is why we selected BlackBerry, which offers the best options for our employees by helping them increase responsiveness, while it maintains security and flexibility for our IT group," said Luis Antonio Rodrigues, Executive Director of Itaú Unibanco.

"Itaú Unibanco was one of the first customers to use the BlackBerry solution in Latin America. We have a long-standing partnership that is based on trust. We are honored to support Itaú Unibanco, which selected BlackBerry for its secure corporate mobility solution," said Wes Nicol, Managing Director of BlackBerry for Latin America.

Needless to say, that's a nice order for BlackBerry and Itaú Unibanco in the fact it gets Itaú Unibanco employees off BlackBerry OS devices and into something more suited for today's mobility needs. If you're looking for the full press release, you'll find it below the break and feel free to discuss more in the forums.

Come on UK & US corporates, start buying into BlackBerry!!!!!

Itau operates here in Argentina and NONE of their branch managers here is given a company cellphone, I know that for a fact as a friend of mine is a branch manager here. Nor they pay for their managers cellphone bills. I guess we won't be seeing those around here... Not to mention that the Q5 was never released here at all, nor the Q10, nor the Z30...

Posted via CB10

However bes10 also manges ios and android. So they will probably implement bring your own device.

And still not pay their cell bill. Hahahaha

Blackberry has direct sales, even though it cuts out the middle man, it's still darn expensive, more than the carriers for a sim free phone.

Alot of US Companies are starting to use BBM Channels.

It maybe the next step, But you need a absolute Mammoth US corporation to say 'we back BlackBerry 10, what are you doing to protect your information? We are bringing in BlackBerry 10 to replace our old BlackBerry devices / iPhone / Android. '

When I hear that from a US CIO and CEO of a Fortune 500 company then people and the Press might just believe that BlackBerry is back and alive.

BlackBerry needs to reclaim the number one spot.

It won't be easy but winning never is.

A battle is won but the war continues.....

BlackBerry....Get it done!!!!

I can imagine the face reactions for those employees going from BBOS to BB10. I can see them saying WOW,

The one thing people need to realize is upgrading from BBOS, iOS and Android, and going to BB10 is considered an Upgrade. ;) These workers are going to be very happy with BB10 devices and platform. Its awesome.

canadian nick

Great , I think we will see this happening more and more as the older BlackBerry's need upgrading.

good news indeed but 1000 units is really nothing...

jojo beaconsfield

@rsilent...they chose the Q5 I guess because it meets their needs and the price is right . Will they be first in line for the Sub$200 Foxconn Z3 coming soon to other emerging markets? So let's be optimistic!!! It's all good!!!

i agree and that is my point. a few thousand of handsets for low price is nothing. so i see the bigger value in this deal in the swith to BES 10. but hey it ads up....:-)

Odebrecht e Itaú optaram por Blackberry. Precisamos de uma propaganda agressiva para conquistar todo o Brasil. É necessário atingir o consumidor final. (Portuguese of Brazil) I love my Z10!

My man, I have not seen anything even close to "aggressive" here in Argentina from BlackBerry... I can imagine the same thing is happening in Brasil... it's very good news though that those huge companies are upgrading to BlackBerry 10! Keep up the love for BlackBerry in Brasil. See you at the world cup finals! Haha

I would love to see BlackBarry 10 devices sold here in Brasil (yes, with "s") at reasonable prices. So far a few stores have the Z10 for around R$ 2000 (US$ 850). Some carriers offer it in absurdly expensive plans. Other models do not exist.

andrepellissari r$ 1200,00 for the z10 off contract.

Nice to hear that a large Latin American country doing this.

Say, has Venezuela paid us yet!? Anyone?

This is good news. Keep up pace and BlackBerry will start to be having a comeback.

via Q10

For enterprise mobility, BlackBerry always made the most sense. I'm often surprised how organizations have so willingly ready to abandon a product that was tailor made to meet their needs. What if BlackBerry was allowed to go under, would the competition be nearly as flexible devoting their very existence to enterprise nerds? More organization should be following this example and start the migration over to BES10 + devices before the option is no longer available.

is excellent news. pity that they are not attacking the various companies in Brazil that still have BB7 and do not even know that there is BB10, why are exchanging their BB7 devices for android. BB10 also do not see in any store in Brazil. expect that to change
