Instagram is a social picture-sharing application with its roots as a mobile-first experience. Users can upload pictures in a signature square aspect ratio, apply artistic filters, upload their creations, and view what their friends have been posting. Users can leave comments and hearts on pictures that show up on their news feed, or they can explore popular photos shared to the public. It launched originally as an iOS app, and came to Android after a long wait. Facebook has since acquired Instagram in an effort to bolster their online photo services. There is still no official Instagram client for BlackBerry in sight, and from the looks of it, there may not be one at all.
I can’t tell you how many times I get a strange or confused look whenever I mention that I’m not on Social Media. Even Kevin admitted his envy when he discovered that I’m not on Instagram, Twitter, foursquare, Facebook or anything else. In fact, he asked me to share my reasons about it on CrackBerry even though it’s not news.
I initially shied away from writing such an article but I know the strength of CrackBerry is in its community, and connecting to everyone here should always remain my priority. Before I start, I’d like to also note that BlackBerry’s CEO, John Chen, isn’t on any social media either — so to my comfort — I’m not alone.Continue Reading →

With the official release of OS 10.2.1 hitting devices around the globe, we now have the option to install Android applications right on the device — including Instagram. It's obviously not an official BlackBerry version, but it still works like a champ on the new OS. So if you've been waiting to get your gramming on from your BlackBerry, here's how to get it done.Continue Reading →
The folks at Instagram dropped another announcement today with some new updates for the service. Instagram Direct now lets you send images privately to up to 15 contacts rather than posting them to your stream for everyone to see. You can choose to send private images and/or videos to your friends where they'll show up in their private inbox.
We're not totally sure that it's an alternative to sending files over BBM or even just plain old MMS, but it's always nice to have options.Continue Reading →
If you've been beta testing iGrann on your BlackBerry 10 device, you'll want to go ahead and grab a USB cable and fire up your sideloading tools. Beta 2 has been made available for download and this release has quite a few bug fixes and new features implemented into it based on user feedback. As noted on the iGrann Twitter account, here's what has been fixed and added:Continue Reading →
The Instagram client BlackGram took the BlackBerry world by storm over the weekend with mixed reviews. While some had no problem dropping $2.99 to finally have native Instagram on BlackBerry 10, others looked it over and are waiting out some other options. BlackGram had some issues at first but an update has just arrived in BlackBerry World that boasts some great improvements.Continue Reading →

If you're new to OS 10.2 you may be having trouble getting up and running with Instagram. There are a bunch of OS 10.1 users that are making the jump to an official 10.2 and have been experiencing issues trying to get Instagram working again. Not to worry - there are actually a few ways you can get a new version working on OS 10.2 with just a little effort. The methods have been floating around the CrackBerry forums for a while now, but if you're just getting started with 10.2 you may now know about them.Continue Reading →
Seems as though the third-party Instagram app space is heating up for BlackBerry 10. Previously, we've only seen some images of iGrann in action but now the developer has uploaded a new video to YouTube for us all to check out. This video comes hot on the heels of another Instagram client, ????gram, that we posted about as well.Continue Reading →
You'll soon have a great Instagram client for your BlackBerry Z10, Z30, Q10... you get the picture. (Get it? GET IT? The PICTURE!) :)Continue Reading →
One thing we've all been eagerly awaiting for is the release of Instagram for BlackBerry 10. If you had a chance to read through our BlackBerry 10 apps forum today you'll be pleased to know that one developer, Gaspertrix, has taken up the gauntlet of coding his own native version.
As he says, this is not just a viewer for Instagram, but a full featured application with a variety of features so that we no longer have to side load the Android bar file. A full list of current capabilities and those that are planned are shown below.Continue Reading →
Have Instagram sideloaded on your BlackBerry 10 device? If so, chances are you've noticed there is a bit of a keyboard bug with the app though that clearly hasn't stopped folks from using it. If you've held off loading it though because you can't appropriately comment, there's actually a fairly easy fix for it.
It does require some prior knowledge of sideloading apps but if you managed to get Instagram loaded already then that shouldn't much of an issue. Check out the video above for a quick run through of it or jump below to read through the written out guide of it all.Continue Reading →
Over the past few days there has been a lot of hoopla surrounding Instagram and their apparent shutting down of third-party applications. Windows Phone users had issues with their third-party clients like Instance and for BlackBerry 10 users using the sideloaded Android version, the situation was much the same with images randomly disappearing after having been uploaded.
For their part, Instagram stated they weren't intentionally blocking any apps but rather just improving their spam filters to better improve the services and apparently they were tuned a little too aggressive. Now, it appears as though whatever change Instagram made to their API initially, is no longer the case and images uploaded via third-party apps are once again working.Continue Reading →
The announcement was to reveal a new feature for Instagram called, you guessed it, Video for Instagram. Instagram creator Kevin Systrom took the stage to show off the new feature that will incorporate with the existing Instagram app and allow users to record short videos a'la Vine.Continue Reading →
Apps, Apps, Apps! Going into BlackBerry Live last week, one of the things I think everybody in the CrackBerry community was hoping to see was the announcement of more BIG name apps coming onto the BlackBerry 10 platform.
Leading up to the show and with the launch of OS 10.1, we now have Skype on BB10. For me, that's the most important of the big three apps -- Skype, Instagram, Netflix -- that the CrackBerry community has been clamoring about for months.Continue Reading →

The road to Instagram for BlackBerry users has been a rocky one, to say the least. First we didn't have the app at all, then we were able to sideload an Android port that worked fairly well, though there were some bugs, then the Android app stopped working for mysterious reasons and we were left in the cold again. Today we received an email on the ol' CrackBerry tip line with a quick work around that will allow you to sign in to that sideloaded version once again so you can get back to happily filtering and sharing with all your friends.Continue Reading →

Less than a day after Soulja Boy got his hands on a BlackBerry Z10, he's wasted no time in finding best damn app in BlackBerry World. He just posted a new photo of his white Z10 to Instagram, and our CrackBerry 10 app is right where it should be... on his first page of apps.Continue Reading →
Following up yesterday's Instagram for BlackBerry 10 drama, @DirkSonguer sent me the following tweet along with a link to the youtube video above: @crackberrykevin Good CB update on the native Instagram situation, thanks! Currently working on a native API client!
Check out the video above to see Dirk's work in progress. He's currently targeting to have his "Instago" Instagram app ready for mid-March (he wants it available in BlackBerry World for the release of the BlackBerry Z10 in the US) and based on what we're seeing in the video things are looking well under way.Continue Reading →
The Instagram for BlackBerry 10 saga continues... earlier today AllThingsD posted a story titled Native Instagram App is Not Coming to BlackBerry 10. Not suprisingly, this stirred things up on twitter and in CrackBerry's forums.
Sources close to Instagram told AllThingsD's John Paczkowski and Mike Isaac that a native version of the photo-sharing application is not headed to BlackBerry 10 anytime soon (apparently maybe never). They go on to say that when Instagram initially comes to BlackBerry 10, it will be via an Android port, assuming it's up to quality and Facebook and Instagram give it a thumbs up and sign off on it. So are they right?Continue Reading →
While BlackBerry 10 owners patiently wait to see if Instagram will indeed come to the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10, we've gotten one step closer as you can now view Instagram photos right from the web -- that includes the mobile browser on your BlackBerry on both BlackBerry 10 and older BlackBerry models as well.Continue Reading →
I'm still getting tweets and emails about whether or not Instagram is coming to BlackBerry 10 following this week's launch event, so here's a little post to update CrackBerry Nation on where things are at (though I did make mention of it already in our BlackBerry Z10 Review).
While no formal announcement was made this week about Instagram coming to BlackBerry, we did get word that BlackBerry is engaged in the process with Instagram right now and that Instagram will definitely be coming to BlackBerry 10. No date yet, but it will be there. Let's hope sooner than later of course.
Now let's revisit that promise I made back on October 12th that if Instagram doesn't come to BlackBerry 10 that I would buy somebody a car. I'll be honest. The lawyer in me was pretty careful about the wording of that article. I didn't say when Instagram would come to BlackBerry 10 -- just that it would come -- and I never stipulated what kind of car I would buy. So based on all that, I'm in the clear on that contest.
THAT SAID... this is CrackBerry and I love to give away stuff to our readers, so I'm going to hook a lucky reader up with a "car" that actually has a lot of meaning to me.Continue Reading →

If you are on team BlackBerry you are probably jealous of your Android and iOS friends posting photos to their social networking sites via Instagram. And many of us BlackBerry users are also jealous that we do not have the Instagram app on our BlackBerry smartphones - let's hope that is resolved with BlackBerry 10.Continue Reading →
