As we clarified again this week, we know the first BlackBerry 10 phone will be a full touchscreen design with touchscreen keyboard, while the second BlackBerry 10 phone will feature a physical keyboard. Reading through the comments and watching the discussion in the CrackBerry forums, I know *a lot of you* are waiting and dreaming for that second phone - a BlackBerry that combines the amazing keyboard of the Bold 9900 with the QNX platform power of BlackBerry 10.
So to tease and torture and get all of us thinking what that second BlackBerry 10 phone with a physical keyboard might look like, our friend John Anastasiadis worked up the beautiful concept design you see above. John notes:
Above is my vision for the next full keyboard BB10 phone. In white just for you, Kevin!
I designed around the 9900 keyboard and kept to the most likely scenario regarding height, width and depth of the device. BlackBerry's have traditionally been organic with soft edges but I believe the new BB10 devices will be more angular with crisp surface transitions. This will allow RIM to break from the past and reinvent the brand with a new aesthetic. Think P'9981 crossed with 9900.
You will notice that the front and side profiles are slightly tapered toward the bottom. This allows the keyboard area to be a comfortable gripping size while maximizing screen size. Also, the black rubberized sides help the user hold and grip the device securely. The reflection of the side view on the back of the device shows how thin it really is.
It's important to note that this concept is an attempt to capture what the next phone will most likely be. A realistic approach in the sense that it could be introduced today.
Thanks for doing this one up in white John... so hawt!! One of the things I think we can definitely expect from a physical keyboard BlackBerry 10 phone is a taller display than we have see on models like the Bold 9900. With BlackBerry 10 you lose the need for the row between the display and keyboard which has the trackpad and menu / back / call buttons, so losing this should open up more room for a taller display (you'll still need to save some empty space for gestures as John did here).
Be sure to click on the image above for a larger version, then drool, then sound off in the comments with your reactions!

Damn... This phone is stunning.... Seems a little clean though... Might attract a lot of finger prints and scratches. But still liking the phone so far... I just hope that they don't ship it out with cheap scratchable plastic and I'm good to go :D
Plus I'm hoping that the keyboard is like the 9900's wide and soft to the touch.

Nice try but I would pass on this one. TK Victory was a much more appealing concept

The berry's are rotten, don't think RIM will survive this downfall, The loss in market-share has led to five straight quarters of sales shortfalls at RIM. The company is cutting jobs to help trim $1 billion in operating expenses. Poor families that get affected by this downfall and people are worried about a new Blackberry 10 device. Just call it quits so some of those people that will loose their careers can move on to bigger and better companies.

I dont understand why RIM would even think of releasing the BB10 in a touch screen only device.
I think RIM should only concentrate on 2 devices max. Blackberry should maintain its niche and thats the keyboard. Thats such a huge feature.
Most people that are Blackberry users. When the touch screen bb10 comes out... Guess what?
Everybody is going to wait for the version with the keyboard.
This device if it was real... something like this would truly give Rim some sort of a fighting chance. People love the keyboard!

I want a trackpad. The precision when editing text is unmatched to me.

Lets hope RIM has some designers half as inspired as John ... this is an awesome design. and by the looks of it i really dont see why it couldnt make it.

Why do fake Blackberries deserve to be the top news article around here for days?
Sad.

Kevin, all this talk about how RIM needs to innovate and people here want them to attach a 9900 keyboard to the next BB10 device? I understand the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra, but RIM is going to have to innovate and come up with an even better keyboard that will work with a new form factor. As nice as this concept looks, we all know that if RIM brought something like this out, the overwhelming response from consumers would be, "same old blackberry". People wouldn't even pick it up in the store to look at the new OS. BB10 devices, both the touchscreen only and keyboard models, have to be sleek, sexy, and above all else, not look like BlackBerry of old. So, ditch the 9900 keyboard and start new.

I love the keyboard.
The best keyboard in the world with the newest OS in the industry wrapped in BB security and data efficiency?
What is there not to like.
Just make sure the camera is world class and I'm in.

Love the design.

Mhmmm, I don't know why but I don't like this design... It looks to me like a larger copy of the Nokia X3-02
pinkvikchick Jun 25, 2012 at 11:48 am
I LOVE it although I know Verizon will be the last to get it, and it won't even have it EVER in white, but omg I need a smoke after that. I wish I had never seen it, because now It's gonna be hard to wait.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Ugly!
Bring on the Blade! I would appreciate a slider phone that's 4.7" screen and slim enough to have a slider underneath it but according to the time Rim takes to respond to market demands, that will be in 2050 when people are driving hovercrafts and living in a virtual life on Mars or even Jupiter! By that time RIMM will only have one share!
mavricxx Jun 25, 2012 at 1:49 pm
I like the look of thie mockup but I'd like to see a bigger screen, perhaps longer in size.
ike1973 Jun 25, 2012 at 3:06 pm
This looks almost like the exact phone that I'm hoping RIM comes out with, but needs a bigger screen. Just move the speaker to the very top edge, like the PB speakers, move the lights up beside the speaker, move the keyboard down as much as possible so there is no space under the space bar, get rid of the blackberry logo and unused space below it and I think that would open up enough screen space to address the aspect ratio commonality.
DiggerB9 Jun 26, 2012 at 4:35 am
RIM should just give this guy a job as his concepts are awesome and are definitely something that people would like to own without losing any of the functionality of what they love about there current phone
Antman360 Jun 26, 2012 at 10:36 am
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!! If this does not pass as the new BB10 design for a keyboard BB then I will personally be making a trip RIM to make sure it gets done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT DESIGN IS SICK AND SHOULD BE MADE SO I CAN BUY IT!!!!! Till then 9900 all the way.......
dean5778 Jun 26, 2012 at 12:52 pm
I don't like this it looks cheap and too plastic looking. I would not buy this ever!
all3n7 Jul 29, 2012 at 3:54 pm

as long as it has the keyboard of 9900, is not touchscreen, massive storage capacity, high speed processor, good display, im fine with it. the design is cool.
im not used to using touchscreen devices. i love the keyboard. i need huge storage. i want faster processing of any operations.
this is just for me :)

Gorgeous phone, but I agree with everyone who feel the edges need to be rounded -- more comfortable. Responding to the idea of a horizontal slide-out keyboard; for many of us, it wipes out the one-handed functionality. That would require using both hands, unless one has a thumb reach of more than 4 inches. (My thumbs are just not that talented.) The beauty of a BB is the ability to use and navigate using one hand.
Love the design, but we need a trackpad. Not a joystick or rollerball, TRACKPAD.
My dream BB would be a "modular tile" I could drop into whichever case/configuration works best for that particular task.
mmariedesrochers Aug 19, 2012 at 11:12 am
I absolutely love this design! I think it's a good thing if Blackberry starts getting away from the trackball. It gives the phones a whole new, modern look. I would love it if they actually came out with this design, especially if the keys are softer and if the phone comes in a few different colors.
jamiekcho Aug 22, 2012 at 6:28 am
I hope they keep the keyboard. It's the reason I moved from the iPhone to BB
tpony Sep 18, 2012 at 8:29 pm
I would really enjoy using a phone like this. I am really pulling for BlackBerry to awww everyone with BlackBerry 10. I have been using a iPhone and I miss the blinking LED, I miss the keyboard and I miss the auto correct. You would think Apple would be able to fix something so simple but their auto correct is the worst in the business.
pmf73 Nov 26, 2012 at 12:57 pm
A few others mentioned something reminiscent of the Torch. Full touchscreen and a slider for the physical keypad.. Otherwise, very cool looking concept.. I'm so anxious for BB10!!

omg! I'm in love!! I have the BB 9930 and I absolutely love my keyboard. So the thought of having a revamped new BB without losing the keyboard is amazing!!

Looks almost like the Q10.
