I'm an avid user of BBM Groups, however, there are times a group can get very chatty for some. You can remove groups from the Hub so that your device doesn't go off every second or so when the chat gets busy.

What is also great going forward, with OS 10.2 (pre-loaded on the BlackBerry Z30), is that you can now set a notification for each BBM group. Or turn off the alert for a particular group too, so even if you left it in the Hub it wouldn't go off every second and you could still easily access the group chats.

To turn off BBM groups from the Hub

  • Open up BBM
  • Tap Groups along the bottom bar
  • Tap the group in question
  • Tap the overflow menu (three dots on the bottom right corner) and select Group Settings
  • Toggle Show Chats in BlackBerry Hub to off

BBM Group Settings

To change BBM Group notifications (OS 10.2 and above)

  • Tap the Settings icon from your Homescreen or swipe from the top bezel from the Homescreen and select Settings
  • Tap Notifications
  • Scroll down and select BBM Groups
  • Select the group you want to change
  • Tap the Tone dropdown menu and select a tone of your choice

To turn off BBM Group notifications (OS 10.2 and above)

  • Tap the Settings icon from your Homescreen or swipe from the top bezel from the Homescreen and select Settings
  • Tap Notifications
  • Scroll down and select BBM Groups
  • Select the group you want to change
  • Toggle All Alerts to off

BBM Group Notifications

There you have it. If you're part of a 24 hour group or just a group that likes to chat, changing these settings will benefit you. Be sure to check out our BlackBerry 10 Help section for more tips, tricks and more.

Nice, I have been wondering if 10.2 would bring this. 10.1 sucks that I want to have my group chat in my hub, but I want to disable the alert, but I am not able to do it. To disable alerts, I have to disable group chat in Hub for 10.1

I m looking forward to 10.2 now that I am able to have group chat in hub but with no alerts! by the way, I want to still have the LED blinking, but no sound alert for group chat, is that possible?

I just downloaded bbm channels and it's pretty freaking cool!

I hope they find a way to create notifications for it.

This how-to is what i need... i left a nice group just because its members are international and i kept on receiving notification once in a while.. not to mention even in the wee hours of the night (yup i know about the bedside mode).

Too bad im still in 10.1, i just have to wait for the official 10.2 to come out which shouldnt be too far away.

Perfect timing. I needed this today, I was about to leave a group. My battery was dying rapidly. Turning off notifications will certainly help in that area. Thanks...

So not sure I totally understand here.

I'm missing the bbm groups notification options in my notifications. I'm running Z10STL100-3/10.1.0.4651.
Is bbm group notifications in the hub coming to 10.2 or the ability to filter notifications per group coming?

I'm the admin of my family bbm group and the group settings says that messages should display in the hub but I have nothing in there. When I check in settings -> notifications I don't have bbm groups as an option.

Thx

BBM group notifications are only available in OS 10.2. The only option you have right now is to remove them from the Hub.

They should have done this from day 1.
