The BlackBerry KEYone has the biggest battery used in a BlackBerry yet. We're going to make sure you get as much usage from it as possible with a few simple best practices.

Lower screen brightness

Lower screen brightness on the BlackBerry KEYone

One of the biggest drains on a smartphone battery is the display. Lowering brightness will make it harder to see in some circumstances, but will ultimately keep your BlackBerry KEYone going for even longer.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers.
  2. Tap and drag the sun icon all the way to the left side of the slider.

Use Boost mode to charge faster

Thanks to Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0, the BlackBerry KEYone can get a 50% charge in only 36 minutes. You'll want to enable Boost mode to make sure you get the most juice for the short amount of time you're plugged in.

BlackBerry KEYone Boost Mode
  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the gear icon to go into Settings.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Tap the three dots in the top-right, and tap Boost mode.
  4. Tap the Boost mode toggle at the top to turn it on.

You'll also find additional options for Boost mode here, such as turning on Airplane mode when charging, which will minimize power use and help you top up quickly.

Use Battery saver when you need it

BlackBerry KEYone Power saver

Battery saver is a special mode that automatically changes a bunch of settings all at once in an effort to keep your BlackBerry KEYone going longer. This includes turning off location services and background data. An option to enable Battery saver mode will pop up in the notification tray once the BlackBerry KEYone reaches low power, but you can enable it manually as well.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the gear icon to go into Settings.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Tap the Battery saver toggle at the top to turn it on.
  4. Tap the Turn on automatically to have Battery saver activate when the power level reaches 5% or 15%.

Uninstall power-hungry apps

Apps can run in the background, sending and receiving data, and being a drain on system resources.

BlackBerry KEYone background apps
  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the gear icon to go into Settings.

  5. Tap Uninstall at the top.
  6. If you don't want to completely uninstall an app, tap Data usage.
  7. Tap the Background data toggle to turn it off.

Reduce time for auto-lock

The BlackBerry KEYone will automatically lock itself and shut off the screen if left inactive for a certain amount of time. By reducing that time, you can save power that would be spent while the phone is idle.
