How Many Times/Hours Per Day Do You Use Your BlackBerry? Video: Three BlackBerry Users Compare Their Stats!

At the end of our Special Edition BlackBerry in Europe Podcast, the four of us in the room pulled out our BlackBerry Bold 9700s to compare our BlackBerry usage stats. Unfortunately, Rory 0'Neill (RIM's Senior Director Business Marketing, EMEA) didn't have the I Love BlackBerry app installed on his Bold 9700 at the time, but both Mike Kirkup (RIM's Director of Developer Relations) and Oliver Pilgerstorfer (RIM's PR Manager for the EMEA region) did.

Check out the video above to see the results of this impromptu competition first hand. Suffice to say, you definitely cannot say that RIM employees do not use the product they sell. Of the three of us, I came in last place with only 3 hours of average daily use. Shameful, I know. Though I did just install the app on my 9700 right before leaving for Europe the week before and while paying ridiculously high roaming fees abroad have intentionally been trying to use my device less than normal. Maybe on home soil I could have been right with Oliver and Mike. :)

But seriously... it's almost scary to look at everyday 'normal' usage stats like this. Think about it... there's 24 hours in a day. You sleep for hopefully 5 to 8 of them. Work backwards from there and to post up usage stats of 70 to 100 uses per day for a total of 3 to 4.5 hours of having your BlackBerry in hand, you're essentially reaching for your device at least once every 10 to 15 minutes and using it for 2 to 5 minutes at a time. What's even scarier (or maybe it's awesomer) is that I don't even think these kinds of stats are that out of the ordinary. For using my BlackBerry 80x per day for 3 hours per day total, I don't even really notice/feel that I'm using it all that much. Then there's our friend Bla1ze of course... I just asked him to send me a screencap of his I Love BlackBerry stats, which you can see below (note - he just reinstalled it after an OS upgrade so they're still counting up..but the daily stats column for all comparisons in this post are relevant). As you can see, at 7h30m per day spent on his BlackBerry, he's pretty much beyond help.

I guess I use it approx 40-60 times in a hour..yes it is correct almost every minute.

I've had the I Love BlackBerry app on my Pearl for a couple of months now and since I got a new 9700 yesterday, I switched all of this data over to it and well, take a look. :)

haha, pretty much, right? I'm like, always on it. Especially BBM. :) And like I said, I've only had that app on my BB for a couple of months. ;) lol.

Downloaded it, followed the directions RE: disabling compatibility mode and the controls were still unworkable... I guess I'll hope for an upgrade that's compatible with my S2, 'cuz I really wanna know how much time my baby and I are really spending together!!!

I tried that too. Still no luck for the kid. It still had the keyboard on the lower half of the screen and I was still unable to hide it. That and the controls were still hard to access and/or control once accessed. Hopefully the developers will update the app so we all can use it.

BTW I'm running the "stock" OS .320, if that makes any difference.

It takes a while for the averages to be accurate on ILoveBlackberry. Mine shows 8 hours average but its only been 4 hours on 2 days.

How do I change the setting so the app is monitoring my BB 24/7? The default setting is not the entire day.

I think this is a great tool to see how much usage I'm getting on this new unit. I've had Blackberries since the screen was black and white - I've always loved what I could do with my BlackBerry smartphone. There have been a lot of tempting platforms released lately but the years of experience and depth of capabilities provided by my BlackBerry smartphone drastically outweighs the "johnny come lately" variables available in the smartphone marketplace. I;m sticking with the originator not the imitator. Thanks to crackberry for providing excellent coverage of the forthcoming Bold 9700 that helped me form my decision concerning upgrading my handset.

I had I love blackberry on my 8330 for a few months, so I know my stats are pretty accurate, and my averages are almost identical to Kevin's... I always thought that was reasonable, but since I'm not running a website dedicated to my phone maybe I need to cut back a bit. Not that I actually will cut back, just maybe I should.

My usage changes depending on if my wife is texting me a lot or not. some days 2 hours, some days 5-6 but all of that is while at work as I'm a well trained boy and my BB goes to sleep when she is around

and installed on my 9550. Seems to work great. Turned off compatability mode, and did a reset via MeterBerry, and the keyboard is gone, have full screen view.

This should be interesting...I'm on my BB all the time it seems.

I wonder if I need a life? Hmmm
