How to disable music updates from BBM contacts on BlackBerry 10

If you’ve been a BlackBerry user you’ll know that there is a feature in BBM that allows you to update your BBM status with what music you’re listing to. The feature of showing people what you’re listening to is popular amongst BlackBerry users, more so that there was an outrage when BlackBerry removed it in the first versions on BBM that had BBM social integration.

First you’ll want to open up BBM on your BlackBerry 10 device.

Once in BlackBerry Messenger you will want to access the application settings by swiping down from the top bezel.

From the BBM settings page you will be presented with a plethora of options to customize your BBM experience.

On this screen you will want to toggle off “Music Status Updates”.

There you have it, after you’ve followed these simple steps you wont be bothered by numerous updates of “I'm listening to the BackStreet Boys” from your BBM contacts.

I miss bbm music! Thanks for the tip but I finally figured it out this morning.

I wish there was a way to ignore all status updates from my bbm contacts. For me BBM is a messaging tool and not an extension of social networking. i've got a few contacts who think every tool on their phone is facebook and they update their personal BBM message several times a day. I do not care to be updated constantly on the minutia going on in their lives... at least not in bbm.

Couldn't agree more blackmoe. The status updates in BBM are driving me nuts. Is there a way to remove notification for these? Especially annoying if you have BBM open but minimized. Keeps flashing the update across the window.

how does one disable BBM updates in general... one of my contacts seems to change her picture 5x a day - when BBM is minimized as an active frame, all I get is a history of changes she made...
