One of the things I love most about my BlackBerry is the ability to have a different alert tone for every app on the device. What this means is that when a notification comes in I know what it is without having to even look at the device. If you are a new BlackBerry Z3 user you'll want to take advantage of this awesome feature as it really does make the whole BlackBerry 10 user experience much better.

Making the changes is super easy and you can alter as many or as little apps as you desire. Although many of us rely of the blinking LED on our BlackBerry, I'm a big fan of the notification tones and use a load of different ones.

Getting things tweaked only takes a few seconds. Just follow these simple steps:

 • Open Settings (pull down from the top bezel)

 • Select Notifications

 • Select Applications where you will be presented with a list of all your apps

 • Choose the app you want and then from the 'Tone' box you will be able to dive into your music or tones stored either on your device or media card

 • Select the one you want and you're all done

The same applies for contacts too. You can have a different tone for your different friends if you want which is a nice touch.

I'm not sure there is another mobile OS that offers as much customization as we get on BlackBerry 10. So grab your new BlackBerry Z3 and get customizing the tones. It's kinda fun.

You must be living under coconut shell or this time.

Symbian is still and always my favourite Os. Nokia 808. FilePLAY Music Player

Another device specific tutorial that's standard across all devices. Waste of space

Another guy with nothing better to do than complain about an article aimed toward new BB10 users, waste of space.

I'd better call it, marketing!

I think articles like this help people doing a Google search on their specific phone. Not all BB10 devices have the same abilities so people first search for the phone they have or want to buy.

I thought changing notification tones is a bit disorganised and lacking. When you click on ‘Browse Tones...’ you have to navigate through the file manager and open various folders first. You can’t actually preview the tones, so you have to select one first, bringing you back to the menu. If you don’t like that tone, you have to do exactly the same thing again. Worse still, if you passed one tone you liked, you have to remember not only its name, but also its location. This could be so much easier. I just changed a few tones and left the rest.

Thanks, James. I'm sure new (and some old) BlackBerry 10 users will find this useful.

Lot of work, customizing every single app. :-)

To make things even more interesting I use one of the LED customization apps... talk about labour intensive! But fun and useful once it's set up. Everyone important to me gets their own pattern. I find it helpful to know who contacted me even if my phone is locked or across the room. Side note - my friend with the 30 tattoos gets the rainbow LED. :)

Wow what a fucking idiot. Hey move out of your mom's vagina lol.

Android..... has more customization than any other OS on the market right now.

Who gave this clown a job to write this gibberish....??

Well that was a disproportionately angry response given the magnitude of the alleged offense, wasn't it. I'd hate to see how many windows get broken when your mother undercooks your Kraft Dinner.

Boy I never get tired of reading such hate filled comments every time an article like this gets posted. Maybe now that BlackBerry is starting to turn around the trolls need something else to get their juices flowing.

Why is crackberry wasting article space on this? Changing notifications on Z3 is the same as any BlackBerry 10 device. The article should be a generic article of which there are many.

You can customize sounds but for led you need an app.

Not sure why BlackBerry can't integrate custom led for contacts and emails.

I think at this point it's probably an issue of not alienating some loyal devs.

One aspect which is extremely annoying is having to continually choose the storage where media (external SD card) is stored. OS defaults to phone memory storage.

It's not about only customization! Android rooted roms offer much more customization! BlackBerry 10 is stable, rock stable!

If only we could customize the volume for each tone differently... like we could on BB7 before...
